Looks like the site for their dictionaries is now http://www.stardict.org/download.php - there look to be a few eng-ita dictionaries amongst them

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Great app, thanks!

There is lots of English dictionaries to other languages, from and to.
However, not so much dictionaries between these "second" languages.

What would be useful, that one could further translate from the results by tapping the result words.

So, lets say we have "en -> fr", "fr -> en", "en -> ru" and "ru -> en" dictionaries installed.

Assume futher I am French and know just little English. I want to see what is a word "chat" in Russian.

First I search for "chat", which will give translation to English: "cat" (from fr -> en dictionary)
Then I could tap with the finger to that word "cat" and it would search again this time giving results "chat" (from en -> fr" dictionary) and "кошка" (from en -> ru dictionary).

https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...1357&atid=5027
"MStarDict feature to translate words further by touch-tapping words in the results."

Thanks !!!

Very good application

i prefer it than qstardict

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Not an MStarDict problem, but the situation is really frustrating. All stardict dictionaries have disappeared from any likely and intuitive source.

The download links are broken, the servlet application here is broken too http://www.stardict.org/downloadit.p...-2.4.2.tar.bz2

Code:

Warning: opendir(download) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory in /var/www/cidian.org/downloadit.php on line 6

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/cidian.org/downloadit.php:6) in /var/www/cidian.org/downloadit.php on line 13

Overall a really poor experience so far...hopefully I will waste less than 5 productive hours getting a Chinese dictionary installed...

V.

Where is the dictionary? I can't find it, or it doesn't come up in any searches?

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Hi All,

I was abple to install dictionaries but i don't understand why, i can see listed only the dict where the file extension is .dict
All the dict that have file extension .dict.dz are not readable on my n900. I have tried to remove the .dz extension but hte dict os not listed.

Any idea?

Thanks

Giorgio

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

It looks like the dict.dz files are dictd format, so there should be a .index file along with them. Make sure you copy both over to the N900.

giorgiogu 2010-05-12 19:04

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Hi Rob1n, thanks for your reply. basically i notice that all the dic from this web site:

http://xdxf.revdanica.com/down2/inde...ormat=StarDict

are in the format dict.dz

when i decompress them, in the diretory i can find 3 files, for example:

oxford.dict.dz
oxford.idx
oxford.ifo

is the .index file the .idx file i can see in the uncompressed directory?

I can notice that if i copy the directory on the n900 probably the dictionary is seen by mstardict because i can see an empty space in the list of the dictionary before the dict that have only the .dict extension but that is not possible to use it.

In the case it is in dictd format, it is possible to convert it?

Thanks again

Giorgio

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Ah - those are in XDXF format. I've just tried it and copying the three files over works fine for me.

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Been trying to install MStarDict onto my N900 (with PR1.1.1) but the pkg manager gives me this:

"Unable to install 'MStarDict'
Application packages missing: defoma"

Attempting this over the command line yields:

Code:

/home/user # apt-get install mstardict ttf-freefont defoma
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package defoma is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package defoma has no installation candidate

Is this one of these PR1.2 dependency issues? This page suggests this pkg may only be available for Diablo (or more likely, it's out of date))

No, it's nothing to do with PR1.2. According to the main package page defoma should be in the Nokia Applications repository.

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Hi,
I downloaded the "Engligh Idioms (eng-eng)" (file: comn_sdict05_idioms_eng_eng.tar.bz2) from the link http://xdxf.revdanica.com/down/index.php. I extracted the file and copied the result file into the mstardict folder. However, the app does not pick up this new dictionary file. I have other dictionary files in the same folder and I am able to see/use them within the MStarDict. Any idea on how I can make this work?

thanks,

Hi, same problem, all the dict from that site are in XDXF format and looks like that some n900 users have problems with those files. I guess that the issue is with the version of some system library but i was unable to find out wich one.

thanks,

Did you changed "Download format" from XDXF to StarDict? New version of mstardict will automatically navigate you to that page with selected StarDict "Download format", because http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php is no longer working.

BTW: MStarDict is finally in testing, so please vote in order to push it to extras. Thanks :)

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

I a trying to run mstardict on my N900, but although application installed successfully when I start it from menu it shows loading and then dies. If I try to start it from XTerm I can see it is loading plug-ins and then complains about e-speak missing(I haven't isnatlled it) and then dies.
Any ideas? Is it espeak causing the problem?

EDIT: Installed espeak - still mstardict wont start. PR1.2 on the device.

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Thanks for the neat app. I was using qstardict but it does not work anymore with Pr1.2.

Two suggestions/feature requests:

- ability to save entries to file (as in qstardict). I would like to write a little script to create glossaries for tomotko from those saved files sooner or later.

- ability to sort the dictionaries. I use a de->en and a de->de dictionary, and would like to have the de->de results at the top (so I don't see the translation right away).

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

@feydrutha: Talking of tomotko... Not wanting to hijack this thread in any way but could you tell me if the latest version works now that PR1.2 is out, please.

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

[QUOTE=oldpmaguy;545283]You got me thinking about this, that I'd like this too.

Check out the "URX ZHEN Chinese-English dictionary" at the link I posted earlier in this thread, here
http://reciteword.sourceforge.net/stardict/babylon.php
It has your pinyin, I believe.

Sorry to bother you by coming back to this older part of the thread.
As SourceForge changed the links I cannot download the URX....Dict. As I need urgently pinyin in my dicts, I ask you to send me this dic or publish another link for download, if you know a new link. Thanks in advance
RR

Same here - so thanks a lot indeed! :)

I like in particular the generally better readability, although I have difficulties reading words typed in blue. Is there a way to customize this? If not, I'd ask for a somewhat lighter blue in future versions.

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

I really like it so far :) Is there a possibility to use another on-screen keyboard layout to enter for example Cyrillic signs?

feydrutha 2010-06-01 12:49

Re: [Announce] MStarDict for N900

Another feature request: it would be great to be able to select and copy text out of a translation. It makes sense for the default behavior when touching the screen be to scroll the results page (that's by far the most frequent use-case), but some way of copying text out would be good.

The mstardict was auto created as the time we install Mstardict..(i guess casue's i see it there ..i didnt creat it my self)

I used terminal to check and it was there but somehow mstardict cant find it. That's suck
I am a normal user..i just need some useful apps for daily activities. However this takes the Sh*t ****

When i bought the phone on Amazon ..the MyDocs or N900 as you open File Manager was remaned to my name..Is anyone know how to rename it.

all,
do not know whether this is specific to me or not; however, it appears that if this app is left open(with the search prompt for new word); my unit does not go to idle and battery is drained overnight. Do you have similar experience?

firmware: PR1.2, with latest titan overclocking kernel(ideal profile, 500-850), no internet, bluetooth, or phone connection.

Cheers

Whatever!! i got it work like a charm now.
It works very pretty good. I can find definition for a word with 3 or more dicts at the same time. Dont need to switch between dicts like others.
