N900 hardware is good, yes dual core cortex a9 is dream but the very problem of n900 is the beta os. Now cortex a9 + 512mb ram + maemo 5 nothing changes. No official mms No videocall (2010 -.-) Old app interface (not look good), desktop and app menu is good. Bad call system, user esperience not very good Not fluid scroll Mail app very bad!! miss portrait ecc.. ecc.. ecc.. |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
???? i'm kinda shocked at all the response lol
Yes i would pay extra for both of the upgrades. I never use my stylus anyways and i rather have multi touch. I fact i would call the n900 the perfect device if it had a capacitive screen. IMHO capacitive>resistence |

Would I upgrade? In a word, no. :D
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
No but i would pay for one of those stantum screens and meego.
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
Yes I would pay for both.
I prefer AMOLED for clearer, brighter image plus improved battery life and I prefer the sensitivity and multi-touch capability of capacitive screens. |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
rofl.... i havent told you my answer....^^
so.... i would pay for amoled.... -> battery , breakproof, and better colors.... i would pay for capacitive too -> scratchproof, no preasure just swiping, maybe multitouch .... i would also pay for at least a scratchproof layer on my resistive touchscreen .... |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
Amoled yes (saves battery and looks pretty)
Capacitive NO (ruins precision and brings NO advantage I can see) |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
I wouldn't pay for either as an upgrade but I would take the AMOLED multitouch in a heartbeat in a new device. However I still wouldn't want the low res capacitative for input.
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
i would not.
a lot of parts of the OS are not really finger-friendly, so losing he stylus will definitely be a loss. also, in my opinion, capacitive-screen-devices are just too sensitive. when i use a friends phone (which has a capacitive screen) i permanently click stuff by accident. this maybe because i'm generally not used to capacitive screens, as i never actually owned a capacitive-screen-device (all devices i owned have resistive screens), but still its just inconvenient to me. |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
Quick Question: Being Maemo is an Open Source operating system; If I could create drivers for a AMOLED touch screen would I be able to hack one into the N900?
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
Nothing.. It would not meet my requirements.
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
Capacitive? Nope. Too sensitive for my tastes, and I prefer stylus + accuracy over gestures/multitouch.
AMOLED? If it's worth the money in terms of saving battery life. The only hardware upgrade I would get is powered USB host. (While we're on multi touch, what happened to Stantum or eGalax_eMPIA?) |

I prefer resistive that N900 has over capacitive. Never felt need for multi-touch and capacitive stylus doesn't feel as good. I also prefer the transflective LCD that is being used on the N900 than AMOLED. It is more readable even in bright sunlight. I would rather: - More RAM - Bigger LCD - USB Host - HD video record/playback and HDMI out |

Haven't done research into AMOLED displays, but definitely NO to capacitive touchscreen. Give me accuracy any day.

I wonder when manufactures will start to use Super AMOLED more |

Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
For this type of question the better solution is a survey (poll)!
IMHO: i pay both to amoled both to capacitive or resistive multitouch. The upgrade to Meego will be more simple i think! (and MeeGo comes certinly with more apps thanks to big software housa such as game loft and other). The main problem are: - is it possibile to upgrade? - the price: under 50 euros yes....over mhmhmhm:confused::confused: |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
That would be a real downgrade. And, unfortunately, if rumors are true, the next Maemo/MeeGo device will sport both of those, which is precisely the reason I won't buy it (plus no QWERTY kb, which is even bigger of a deal breaker).
I'd never trade the precission of a resistive touchscreen for some gimicky multitouch, and N900s touchscreen is almost as sensitive as cap. screens. I would, however, pay for the Stantum resistive touchscreen update. As for AMOLED, battery savings are minimal, while you loose the ability to read anything on the screen in a direct sunlight/strong light source, and mobile devices are mobile precisely for the reason to be able to use them when outside... |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
I too feel that capacitive touch-screens have become too much of a buzz-word and not enough people understand the trade-offs. I have been extremely unhappy with every capacitive touchscreen phone I've tried for any period of time. I've used a lot of resistive panel devices with which I've had problems as well, particularly with calibration issues, dead zones, etc., but I've never had a problem with a resistive panel on a Nokia device.
I use a lot of applications that require greater precision than fat fingers can provide. These are not simple cases where a UI redesign would solve the problemm either. The inability to use a conventional stylus, fingernail, etc. with capacitive screens is an absolute deal-killer for me. The few capacitive styli available, such as the Pogo stick are bad jokes that provide scarcely any better precision than a finger. Multi-touch on a phone sized device is largely a gimmick, with few usability benefits and a lot of downsides. The situation is different on an Ipad or tabletop size. |
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
If you want to know why Resistive touchscreens are better, just have a look at the MyPaint thread in Multimedia and try doing the same on a Capacitive screen
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
all i want is multi-TOUCH for gaming and zooming. Other than that i don't care
|
Re: would you pay for amoled & capacitive touch upgrade?
i wouldnt pay for amoled, i already did expect it on the n900. even my old 300 euro-phone had amoled (samsung s8000)
multitouch with capacitive screen i dont really want. i'm just nota big fan of the "handling" these kind of screens provide. although multitouch would be nice. what happened to multitouch on resistive screens anyway? i remember seeing a video showing perfectly working multitouch on resistive screens. |
