looks fine here but I haven't edited any config after the update.

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections

Is it possible to combine this with the 'disable-wlan' option?

I'm using a seperate applet for unloading the wifi drivers to save battery time.

It would be nice if your applet does that automaticly when switching to a 2/3G connection and reload wifi drivers when switching back to wifi.

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections

Hi,

thank you all for testing.
There is a bug in the settings dialog. You always have to
set your internet connection in the settings dialog even if you
only want to change the icon size or the displayname.
Sorry for this, I will fix this and upload a new version later this day.

"...the 'disable-wlan' option?"
Well, I hoped the the next maemo update would solve this. And you
dont need applications like the wifi-switcher anymore to save the battery.
But I dont know if this is the case. I will look at wifi-switcher how
this works.

In this post http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=17
I described how to change the connection icon, for those people who
like to use their own icons.
Now I like this option too. What do you think, should I make this
configurable through the settings dialog?
And may someone help me with some default icons. I think
4 to 6 icons for different connection types should be enough.
For example:
GPRS - Internet
GPRS - MMS
WIFI - Home
WIFI - Work
WIFI - ...other, public, open...
preferred icon size 96x96 and two icons per connection type,
one for "connected" and "disconnected".

Hi !

Could you also consider my question please, to bring up the "setting wrench icon" (at desktop edit mode) higher (till its bottom aligned with the application icon bottom) so it could be placed to the edge of the screen please ?

Many Thanks for your help and answer,

Andrew

Hi,
sorry but I can not change the position of this wrench icon.
It is always at the lower left corner.
And this position stays the same, even if you change the
icon size. But you can remove and add the widget from the
desktop after changing the icon size. Now the wrench icon
should be at the correct position.

New version (0.6) is in extras-devel.
The settings dialog works again now.
It is installable from there again, no need to upload
it here.
thank you for testing and I hope
it is useful.

Hi nicolai, i use my own icons so they match the N900s default theme, i can upload them in the morning if you want them?
Heres a screen crop of the wifi connected icon ..

Attachment 9107

when its disconnected the blue signal part turns grey, iv also made them for a GPRS connection, i will upload them also.

I can also make new icons for you, they will also match the Maemo 5 UI icons.

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections

Hi biggzy,
does your gprs icon look different than your wifi icon?
What I would like to have is:
One type of icons for Wifi-connections and one for GPRS, which are
maybe similiar but even distinguishable.
(I just can not imagine how a gprs icon should look like, which isnt
recognized as a wifi as well).

From this to types we derive the icons for the different
connections, for example
gprs-internet: GPRS-Icon with a little globe
gprs-mms: GPRS-Icon with a little mail
Wifi-home: WIFI-Icon with house

Wifi-work: WIFI-Icon with (no idea)
Wifi-general: WIFI-Icon with (no idea)

Add a new connectnow widget to your home screeen then remove the 1 that keeps reseting, see if that works

i normall use 2g to conserve batteries. what would be an unreal option would be, when i use connectnow for provider internet it also changes my connection to 3g. Also reverts back to 2g when you press it again.

wonder if this is possible

Connectnow v.0.7 messed my device up!.....updated then noticed that bluewiz, sleeper and OMWeather were missing from the desktop.I`ve added them again only to find out that the 'done' button at the top could not be pressed!....it was getting stuck and was not working until I removed one of the apps mentioned above.....reeeealy strange problem

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections

Hi, as some of you already found out, there is a new version.
Thanks to biggzy for his cool looking icons.
I changed the wifi icon a little bit to make the difference
between connected and disconnected more visible.
As someone wished I made another two for
bluetooth and usb.
And with this version the connection icons are configurable
with the settings dialog (this was much mor work than the widget
alone)

@charbar: Sorry for the long delay, can you please try this version.
If this dont work, try to remove the widget from desktop and
delete the connectnow settings file:
in xterm enter rm /home/user/.connectnow_home_widget
And now add the widget again.
@sophocha: thank for your feedback, it may be a fault from this widget. loading the settingsfile from older versions, where some
settings weren't configurable may cause this.
Hope all is working now.

I have a similar problem with 0.7. As soon as I add the ConnectNow widget to the destop, it shows for only 1 sec, the page refreshes and then the ConnectNow widget disappears including all the other widgets on the page (even before I was able to press the Done button).

I tried to remove /home/user/.connectnow_home_widget, but it does not exist. Other 3rd party widget I've installed are: bluezwitch, Conversations Inbox and FindingIt.

What may cause this problem?

Try adding the widget (even if it's dissappearing before pusing the "done" -button), press done and then reboot. Will the widget show up after the reboot?

No, that did not work.

After rebooting, the widgets still do not show up.

This file is not "visible". Type
Code:

ls -la /home/user
This should show many "."-files like .connectnow_home_widget

For some users hildon-home crashes after updating connectnow
to version 0.7. I dont know exactly why, it has something to do with
loading the icons.
I'll have a look once I'm back at home.

Same thing happened to me. But not too much of a problem as when I re-add the other widgets, they remember the position they were in as long as the correct desktop is viewed at the time.

This comment isn't really helpful.

No one force you to test those apps. This is still in extras-devel.
If you want something more stable - dont use this repository.

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections

guys just remove connectnow and install fresh from app manager....then add your missing widgets....that is what fixed mine....if you update then omweather, sleeper and bluwiz and maybe others will be deleted from the desktop.

if it doesnt work then delete connectnow and do a restore, then install it again....it is crucial to make backups before installing something from devel....it saved my *** couple of times.

Maybe this is the problem of the Widget not appearing?
