Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
how come my tmobile usa speeds are lower then other user that reported on here?
Does having a $9.99 tmo usa data plan with (internet2.voicestream.com) have any disadvantage over the $25 plan with (epc.tmobile.com)? in regards to speed that is!!! thanks! |

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
ähhh guys you know that these speed test are pretty much a waste of time?!
you expect that the route from the N900 to the server (which shows you the result) is... let's say comparable with a road that is turning into a highway (the bigger back bone of the ISP) and that there is no stop and go traffic on that street. but that is wrong. first of all you don't necessarily use the shortest way to reach the server. then you don't know how the server is connected to the network (maybe it is a single line road). and then there is the friendly police man on the street that say "oh sorry lorries has to queue in just one line, while busses and cars with more then one person in it can use all the other lines (priority of different packages)... just do say some of the things that could limit the throughput of your connection. packages for these kind of speed test are not always the high priority packages for an ISP. similar to P2P traffic, it will be slowed down by some of them. not necessary your ISP but one of the companies between you and the server. then you also have the limitation of your ISP/Phone company. maybe you are in an area with a lot of customers, so they tell you that you get a highly desirable HSUPA/HSDPA or just UMTS connection. your phone shows you that you get a 3.5g connection. but somewhere behind the link (phone <-> base station) your traffic is queued, just to allow everyone in your cell to browse the web. there are so many things that will influence with these speed tests... you can't count them all. |

As with any service, the more complaints they hear from people the more mo bile operators will go to lengths to improve a service. If its something like network coverage they can fix these issues quite easily. Something like speeds, can be alot trickier. Still it is worth ringing them and lodging a complaint. BUT, understand: it is practically impossible to get the full network speeds they offer "3.6Mbps/7.2Mbps". Hope that helps. |

N900 via BT WiFi Router
Download: 3.26Mb/s Upload: 0.37Mb/s N900 via Vodafone Mobile 3G Download: 2.88Mb/s Upload: 1.03Mb/s Windows XP Laptop via BT WiFi Router Download: 2.92Mb/s Upload: 0.35Mb/s Impressive. The N900 is faster than my Laptop when it comes to the BT Wifi  . N900 Vodafone upload also impressive considering 3g not wifi. Sorted :) |

Vodafone 3G in the Czech Republic currently has:

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
You others using saunalahti, what Access Point Name do you use(yhteysosoitteen nimi), or does that matter at all?
I'm using internet.saunalahti which is the old name, and saunalahti keeps sending me this new apn called mms.saunalahti.fi. I once tryed this mms.saunalahti.fi and my speed was half of what I had with internet.saunalahti. Though does the name actually anything about the connection, or are the ips the same for both? I'd think they'd use the same route, but again using mms.saunalahti.fi I got much slower speeds.. Or was it just by chance? |

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
Now switched to Three PAYG sooo much better than O2:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/797107808.png Have to admit O2 was better for uploading photos though, if the speed test is accurate. But then uploading it doesn't matter so much how long it takes, its in the background, but web browsing was painful on O2. |
