That did the trick. Cool ;)

Btw. got the key mapping/joystick thing working with some roms from another download site, including commando. No virtual keyboard needed there :)

Any way thanks for the help Bazza :D

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

Is it possible with the mappings to map two keysets at once to one joystick port?
I find in some games I have to use both hands on the keyboard when jumping at 45% to get up/right up/left combinations which is too hard just using one hand and the arrow keys.
so use both hands but then want to be able to use arrow keys and shoot with the other hand if need be! :P

Or maybe a bi-direction key ..or on screen touch-control...or accelerometer...

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

How difficult would it be to have the ability to re-map the c64 keyboard to the users personal taste? Then the virtual keyboard will not be needed as often.

Also to dedicate one button possibly shilft combined with another button lets say J for example. to activate joystick swap etc etc?

Am i asking too much or is it do-able.;)

I will take a look at the keyboard handling soon, keyboard is already configurable, but does not support all keys yet.

You can already map a hotkey to a menu item, just go in to the particular menuitem you wanna link a hotkey and press the key 'm'. It will then poll for the key you want to use.

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

Thanks for the great emulator...loving it so far! Got an issue with using the PS3 controller with it though. The menu system seems to always recognize the PS3 controllers's accelerometer movements which can cause quite a lot of trouble. Also, is there a conf file I can edit to set up the keysets manually (for both the joystick and menu system controls), I've messed them all up and have buttons doing 2 things at once, etc. :(

edit: I've just unistalled VICE to see if I can get the keysets back to default, but now VICE doesn't seem to be showing up in extras-devel...! Anyone else able to see it?

It seems to be available in extras-devel.

To remove keysettings, delete .vice folder from home dir (or from menu settings management->restore default settings)

I'll take a look at ps3 controller issues later.

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

HI all. I love the emulator but I have encountered a problem whereby after a short period of time the emulator will lockup and then reset the phone automatically. The first game was bruce lee and the second was kickstart.

I am not sure if this can be accounted for when pressing multiple buttons on the keypad at the same time. Has anyone else had this happen?

Thanks.

This emulator is awesome.

Been playing Ghosts n Goblins, summer games, Elite and lots of others!

The only problem is that I cannot get the Ghosts n Goblins music out my head. It's hard to make out the voices in my head!

Many thanks for this!

I've not experiences any lock-ups yet (probably not played it long enough).

Arrow keys and left shift works when you select Keyset as a joystick device and define keys in Define keysets

i set it to keyset and defined all my keys but arrows on keyboard still didnt work for up,down, left, right

Beach head 2, commando, salamanda (awesome arcade conversion for its time) and turbo outrun its intro music put 16 bit consoles to shame.

So far I haven't been able to bring up any game. What am I doing wrong?

-I gathered some games in /home/user/MyDocs and they are .zip as they were
-I defined keyset 1 for joystick settings
-I start VICE
-I activate autostart image and navigate to a [game].zip
-The game is loaded and runned and goes to fullscreen

result: I can affirm the correct colour scheme of the game, also I see some movement so the game seems active
only it looks like this:

edit:
-OK just had to add .d64-files as games for C64. Clear.
-Setting 100% speed; is somewhat easier to play with ;-).
Very nice to see this working (for the greater part). These cool C64-sounds!

Yes, I noticed at some time also that zipped disk images is not supported. So you have to unzip the disk image first and try again.

That's ok for the moment that zipped images is not supported. However, it would be nice to have a setting where its possible to specify the "default" folder that will be shown when browsing for images (instead of the startup dir, which appears to be the root dir). I searched in the configuration file, but no setting seams to apply for setting the default directory. :(

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

Yeah, Zip files does not seem to work, however for example .gz files do work. I'll take a look. I will also do something for storing the working dir.

Thank you for this!
I managed to mess up the settings so badly, partly due to the ps3 controller being knocked and selecting menu options randomly, VICE refused to open at all.
Fixed now thanks to that Terminal command:

rm -r .vice

Powerdrift and Stuntcar Racer here I come!

Hi Bazza

what do you mean by joystick ports? im currenlty just using the keyboard in the n900 as "joysticks" with the allow keymap joystick option. i have of course tried to swap joystick 1 and 2.
i dont think i understand how to operate the on scree keyboard.i think i missing something..when i press enter on the n900 keyboard while on the virtual keyboard "keys" nothing happens..what am i missing?

thx again

zeltak

@zeltak

Check your pm.:)

SORTED IT

RIght, go to joystick settings redefine keyset 1 to your liking, make sure 'allow keyset joystick' is selected and set joystick device in port 2 to keyset 1.

And away u go, its quite a good game with speech aswell (a little scratchy though) but thats down to the games age.

Have fun

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

How do you press Run/Stop and Restore keys simultaneously from the virtual keyboard on this emulator?

I'm trying to access the CMOS Setup screen for IDE64 to enable direct write so that I can format the ide64.hdd image using the cfsfdisk ide64 format utility. I think you have to hold these keys down with a soft or hard reset to get the cmos setup screen.

Any ideas?

Never mind, I think I'll just create a working hard disk image from VICE on my PC then copy over ide64.hdd to n900.

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

Hi.
Three days ago I bought the n900.
First thing: install Vice! :)
It's a great emulator, but i've a problem: it goes on rootfs.
It's the version described as optified (2.2.0-3).
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advice!

Re: [Announce] VICE for N900

btw, where is the source code for this? it's really irritating that the Fn key doesn't work. i can't play wasteland properly since it requires generous use of the number keys in the game.

Nice one, glad you sorted it.

This emulator needs a little attention maybe a better GUI with easier rom selection and control configuration.

Even now i sometimes fire it up to turn back the clock to the good old day's. ;)
