The web site now informs the user "The application version for the Maemo operating system is Mobile Maps 9."
prior to paying for the application

Navigation is not suspend during the call , and you can hear the voice commands during the call as well.

I would say that's a feature. You wouldn't want to miss a turn just because you are talking to someone?

That's probably a matter of preference, however since we are talking about a mobile phone here, I reckon voice calls should *always* take precedence over anything else.

Re: {REVIEW} SYGIC Mobile Maps 9

Depends on the user I guess (I myself would prefer them concurrently). It annoys me as is when the system pauses audio to play a ringtone, im, alert, gps voice guidance, etc..

You can disable the voice commands before your call.

I agree with you it is annoying sometimes, but it is very useful when you are driving a car and some one called you suddenly.

I prefer to disable the voice comands and make a call as backgroung during looking to Sygic maps.

Re: {REVIEW} SYGIC Mobile Maps 9

I downloaded the demo from Ovi to test out today.
Was bringing the little one to the Zoo so I was thinking 'what the hey, i'll test it now'

After todays testing I conclude it has LONG way to go before it gets anywhere near my Garmin 760.
Did it find the Zoo (The only one in Dublin...) Nope
Could I find anything related to it in the search,? Nope
Did it know of the park the Zoo is located in (Biggest park in Europe I might add ) Nope, it could see it on the map but no name was given for it.
It was about then I went beck to using the Garmin and deiced to remove Maps9 from my device... Hope Maps 10 is a hell of a lot better.

Re: {REVIEW} SYGIC Mobile Maps 9

This is depend on the maps not the program it self, Garmin is wonderful.

But for now Map 9 Sygic is very good really, but not in every country.

I tried in Cairo,Egypt it was too accurate and fast and wonderful, and i used in Kuwait was not accurate in many many areas.

However, I think this is because i'm using maps of 2009 as they did not release yet the 2010 middle east maps.

I believe that Map9 (Sygic) is better than Ovi maps came with N900. I'm satisfied with it.

Hello
I have a problem with update to v7.71.1.
Today I purchased Mobile Maps App. with Benelux maps and activated them with my code I received from sygic site.
After this I tried to install update to version 7.71.1, but I can't.
I add the catalog from his site:
Catalogue Name: Sygic Mobile Maps
Web Address: http://repository.sygic.com/maemo/
Distribution: fremantle
Components: non-free
Leave the check box “Disabled” unchecked.

But I still can't see the update from "update" section. I can see new version in the "download" section. I tried to install, After download my phone tried to install and stop with this message: "Unable to install Mobile Maps9 - Application". Why I don’t know....

How I can update to new version ?

Err.. I'm not sure how your installing Mobile Maps 10 considering it's not out yet. But the repo you added is only for application updates. You need to install the app manually first by taking the files from the ZIP or whatever archive they provide and moving them into the /home/MyDocs/ directory before using the repo.

Sorry, it's not Mobile Maps 10, it's Mobile Maps 9. I know that update for application. I speak about this update, about the version 7.71.1. Why I can't install this after purchasing ?
I purchased the Benelux (Ovi Store version) for 39.99 EUR.

Hi,

we are sorry to hear you have issues installing the update.

There are two different app versions available - the Ovi Store version and the online shop version. The update you refer to is for the online shop version. Unfortunately it is not possible to apply it to Ovi Store version of the app. It is technically not possible to do so.

We work on an update for the Ovi Store version. The process takes a little more time because it is not fully under our control.

We will explain app update availability more clearly on our website.

We also aim to simplify the whole download and purchase process.

Thank you for using Mobile Maps.

Sygic Support.

I had the same issue. In my case I had only installed the maps and not the actual navigation software (you need to install 2 things from the OVI store). Hope this helps

Sygic is OK - but I have two issues with it.

Firstly the speaker volume is just tooooooo loowwwww.

Secondly the routing algorithm is crap - there's just no other way of putting it! It takes me the long way round EVEN if I select shortest route!

Re: {REVIEW} SYGIC Mobile Maps 9

Route66 on N95 8GB is probably the best alterntaive - although it doesn't have speed cameras.

I find it absolutley brilliant.

Re: {REVIEW} SYGIC Mobile Maps 9

jesus christ!
ok, so i fianlly find out that you have to download the maps as well as the app itself - theres no instructions about this or notifications and the map app isnt listed with the maps on OVI...arrgh!

anyway, i have both now.

installed it. now it tells me my license has expired.

i havent got a license...aaargh! kill! kill!

Hi,
We are sorry to hear you have issues with routing.

Can you be more specific about the problem, it would help us locate it. It would be great, if you could show us the route on Google maps using road planner. You can use link button in upper right corner of Google maps and send link in reply.

Thank you for using Mobile Maps.

So Sygic,

Given that "There are two different app versions available" would you recommend buying the on-line shop version? This allows future updates?

But IMO it's not just a mobile phone any more. Indeed calls are the thing I probably use least frequently!

Am all for user choice though, my vote would be to cause the nav to continue.

Re: {REVIEW} SYGIC Mobile Maps 9

I'm somewhat confused about the purchase options.

It appears I can either get:
* Ovi store version 40 EUR - UK/ireland
* Sygic shop version 60 EUR - Europe

Additionally Sygic store option appears to have extra features (auto rotate, background etc) but I suspect this is down to an update, which is presumably what the references to a sygic repository were related to?

I did notice that Sygic doesn't appear able to use the GPS if another app is using it. Ovi maps, GPS datalogger, ecoach don't appear to have this problem. This feature is useful when using GPS data logging to track a journey, or to record location automatically. Not sure if this is fixed in a later version

So as both Maemo and Ovi store is pushing Sygic are we to assume that Nokia has abandoned Ovi maps for the N900?

No. Nokia needs to develop Ovi Maps for the n900 because that is what the MeeGo device will get

Who is your source? I don't believe that they are working on OVI map for N900 though, but may be for MeeGo for sure. N900 = abandoning project 4/5

I'm too lazy to search but the n900 was supposed to be base for MeeGo development. That's why we have the latest version of Qt and whatnot. This ensures that the developers can build apps for MeeGo while MeeGo is being developed.

Ovi Maps and the other Ovi services on symbian aren't built with Qt. As they get ported to Qt, they are brought to the n900. If Ovi Maps, with voice nav is built anytime soon, it'll be tested on the n900 and not a MeeGo device because a MeeGo device wouldn't be out or made by then. Now it is completely up to Nokia to give us this new version, it would be stupid if they didn't

I doubt they will. Probably marketing will use it as a reason to make people buy the Meego device.

MeeGo device will be out by then.. I am pretty sure that Nokia already thought this through and keeping it in the dark so that the sale of the N900 can rise a bit more than what it is now.

I think MeeGo device is already in the making right now and being tested by Nokia but no further announcement until they got a stable MeeGo OS running on it. N900 was just Nokia's guinea Pig. An experiment to see how many customers would want something computer like device before MeeGo device. So Nokia will make a MeeGO device to suit those people and also a version to suit simple users.

But there is no MeeGo OS out so the only way they work on Ovi Maps for MeeGo is on the n900

Anyone else has a problem with starting sygic maps? When I install from ovi store it doesn't even create an icon for it. But when it's installed from their repositorium, it does but it only works for 1 second.
