Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Okay, I had that problem too, this is how I did it :

- delete that "bora" repo you just added,

- add the old "mistral" repo, like this :
* from AppManager
o Add this entry into "new catalogue":
+ web address: http://home.ufam.edu.br/~agan/minimo/
+ Distribution: mistral/
+ Components: n/a
o "Refresh list"
o Go to "Install new applications"
+ pick minimo up.

This will install an old version of minimo but also the needed libraries.

- now delete the "mistral" repo :-)
- now recreate the "bora" repo :-)

- refresh list, you should see the latest (0.16.12) version for update and this time it should work...

PS: yes, this repo stuff is a real mess :-)

I was about to state that .16.11 was the most recent version, but it appears that only a few days after .11 was released, .12 followed. Any news on what this version adds/fixes? Still no announcement up on Tonikitoo's Page. Seems to work fine on my N800. With .11 and .12, I feel that Minimo has finally surpassed Opera as best browser.

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

.12 seems to always crash whenever I click Save in the preferences (this didn't happen to me in .11) and I then have to reboot the N800 before Minimo will work again. This latter reboot problem should be fixed ASAP as it makes testing really difficult (I've given up for now).

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Changelog in 0.16.12-1:
  • Made 'scroll by arrow keys' default instead of spatial navigation (toggling still possible through menu).
  • Added 'Launch in fullscreen mode' checkbutton in general-panel/preferences.
  • Set minimo default zoom level to 1.1.
  • Removed 'Set minimo as default browser' and "dump js at shutdown" checkbuttons from preferences - WinCE specific implementation.

I can confirm this on my n800

<nag mode on>Sounds like the latest versions are more difficult to install, but definitely more stable, on the 770 than on the N800 :-)<nag mode off>

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

still investigating ... strange ... I did not crash on preferences tab at all with .12 ...

milhouse and idomcfly , did you upgrade it from .11 ?

If so, It might be some incomparability, but not sure.

could you try

$ cd ~
$ mv .mozilla/minimo ./mozilla/minimo-bak

<run minimo again and check it it still crashes on preferences> ???

thanks

Yes I did - unfortunately I've just reflashed with 3.2007.10-1 so have lost the previous .11->.12 install of Minimo. Later today I'll try installing .12 and see if the problem can be repeated.

Milhouse 2007-03-23 19:47

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Antonio - I've resinstalled .12 (on N800/3.2007.10-7) and I no longer have a crash when clicking Save in Preferences. :) Looks like the upgrade from .11 to .12 left something nasty behind.

engadget.com continues to "hang" Minimo - it never stops loading the page, and no longer responds to Stop.

The tabs are great, but how does one follow a link and do an "open in new tab"? Is there something really obvious I'm missing?

Don't think it works yet. Minimo doesn't yet support a right click/context menu, but this is on the list of things to do and once it's implemented I guess one of the menu options will be "Open link in new tab"

Could anyone tell me how I can input text in the Google Doc app within Mimimo? I couldn't get the virtual keyboard to show up. Thanks!

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Has anyone been able to find a preference for turning off History pop up when entering a site address in MiniMo ? On my N800 the history pops up when typing and then I have to hit another button to make the history go away before the address bar will take another character. Also for instance when typing www.google.com , all previous google.com pages show in the list and hitting enter will use whatever is in the history.

But, that's the way that Mozilla browsers work on the desktop...

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Can regular Firefox extensions work with this?

Reasoning: one thing that I'm amazed at is that for instance with Opera. They have a browser for just about ANY web-connected device under the sun, and yet there's no way for me to have all my bookmarks the same no matter which Opera I'm using. I have solved this problem between my home and work PC's with a Google Browser Sync plugin that syncs when I open Firefox. If I could put that same plugin on MiniMo, that would be KILLER.

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

As of yet, I don't think any Extensions are available for Minimo.

Thanks for the quick response. Is this something that could feasibly come down the road? I've only had my N800 for a week and have never touched a Linux anything else, so I'm a complete Noob at this stuff.

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

hello,
i tried to paste an url into url-bar. im using 0.16.13.1. when activating the context menu of the virtual keyboard (to click paste), the keyboard comes in front, laying over the context menu, which loses focus and disapears.
no chance to use context menu, even quickily hitting "paste" (its a kind of game!) when context menu apears brings no success.
has anyone same problem/a solution?
greets steffen

im trying to install this too, and im getting the x11-common required.

i tried adding the mistral to application manager, but it gives me "unable to refresh list". Is that library not available any more?

any alternate ways to get the x11-common?

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

IMHO a nice stable minimo would be the best app on the IT interestingly enough it seems that there is very little interest in the project. If this could keep on progressing and be able to render flash then you could for all intents and purposes have a device that would be completely useful even if Nokia abandons Os2007 in a year as they did 2006.

I am not a coder but a very willing tester and would love love to see this project gain momentum especially with minimo 2.0 around now.

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Fortunately this new version also works on the 770 (see the comments on tonikitoo's blog post for the repositories).

As always it's better and faster than the previous. Good work Antonio !

My only problem is that I don't have the icon toolbar in full screen mode anymore, which makes it impossible to navigate and thus almost useless. Is there any way to get it back ?

I'm glad the icon bar is gone. If I need to navigate I use the hardware button to go back and for the other functions I just take it out of fullscreen mode and then the icons are back. :)

Thanks Antonio! Because of you I can use google calendar and reader!

Re: New Minimo build 0.16.9-1

Well I'm glad that you're glad but I'd be glad to have it back, so it could be an option, right ? :-)

BTW, what is that "hardware button to go back" you mention ? In Opera I use the "escape" button all the time, and I miss it in Minimo.
