If being turned off by initial approaches was the norm around here, most people that signed up after December 2009 or so would all have zero visibility and/or respect.

I can totally understand how that could happen. Sometimes, when i'm in the mood I try to help despite the initial approach. Other times I just ignore and on the rare occasion, I succumb to being human.

the n900 is a damn awsome device, but PR1.2 does suck, I mean just video calling, some extra functionality they ported from other parts of os like searching in app manager, ussd codes.

the core funtionailty is still missing, no official mms and no video over 3G this is just a crap update. hoping the next one will be better.

Nokia are just jumping on bandwagon after bandwagon, they dont have a clear focus, and from what I see from meego it seems like this is just being reproduced with that, when meego comes out they probably wont have many apps for it like the N900 and maybe missing core functionality.

really hope nokia can pull something off, would really hate to see them go down.

i had a few problems whit the update but i just deleted all user data after making a backup.
then i run the update restored the backup and it works realy well it works even faster than before.
its a real good update

c'mon! we waited long time for this! some flashed to the leaked ones! we overflooded a PR1.2 thread and made a Legend! we almost Boiled Dave999 in oil alive and loud! and then when the real thing comes in......it suck???? really??? you maybe :D

I think it has been made clear that official MMS is not coming. Waiting for it is just torturing yourself

I'm wondering why we can see so opposite opinions about PR1.2 after all.
Are your level of expectation grown up to high? Do you expect that 1.3 will teach your N900 to bring you coffee every morning?

Just a bit chunky on the English there, devu. I got the gist of what you were saying, but I have to admit to being forced to re-read it because it was oddly written.

And thank you nosa101; I did not see that announcement. fMMS is a wonderful community based inclusion and I'm glad to see Nokia embrace it. What of the other lacking portions though?

MMS not being the initial goal though is news to me - I can't say that they made this public notice upfront. Which eerily is the same for Flash Player 10.1, Exchange provisioning and a few other issues that some people are having around here with their N900 purchases.

Any other lists of what they will/will not include?

From what I've read, it seems a lot of problems stem from users updating with hacked kernels, mods or tweaks... or just applications not updated for 1.2 causing problems.

I updated from a standard n900 with no problems, as did a lot of others...

Selective advertising?

I doubt that's even a real concept. But it's just like those Apple commercials that never tell you that you can't check facebook and IM at the same time. But they always show the user on the phone and browsing the web at the same.

You only talk up what you have.

Do you know how much booty I would kick if I spent $650 on a phone that (out of the box) couldn't send a photo of the hot date I just had last night to the folks without the ability to grab e-mails on their lower-cost phones?

But the fact that they're being specific after the launch bothers me too. It's like... well, snake oil salesmen. They sell you something, promise many things, deliver on a few things, and then say wait for them to come back with the rest.

Do you wait? Do you chase? Do you kick a path of booty from here to there? Or do you just sit there, with a smile because you got a few things after all?

I'm of the kicking booty type (see above).

seriously...after all the wait what did they improve in the new update?

can anyone tell me please what are the most important big things they improved? NOTHING...u can type ussd codes now? pffff well nothing important about that since we used ussd widget in the previous firmware and it worked just fine.

portrait mode in web browsing? well most people if not all got used to do web browsing in landscape mode and can anyone tell me what's the use of web browsing in portrait mode if it didn't have a virtual keyboard..it's useless

gps is acting crazy!!!!..not giving the right location where iam at..it was perfect in the previous firmware

they removed "more" from menu? wow big improvement..the menu looks ugly now with all the apps put together

night mode for video and photo? really? r u kidding me? what's the use of night mode for photo since we can take photos with flash on in dark..and i thought i can record videos now with the flash on when i saw night mode for video for the first time but it's a joke

i admit the back button in web browsing has its benefits..and i like it and browsing is much faster in my opinion

but for real we waited so long for a useless update..and when i click on "my nokia" in settings i get a message saying internal error..seriously?? and don't tell me to hard reset my phone to get it to work because it gives me a headache

are you expecting a magic firmware update that will make your n900 a godlike device?

you're probably hoping an old honda civic to become the latest ferrari sports car.

Lower your expectations dude, you'll always get disappointed if you don't and in reality we don't always see/get what we expect especially if your expectations are too high.

Well landscape web browsing with virtual keyboard is slow anyway...hell even if they included...i would probably never use it. Landscape is just to let you see a webpage in a different perspective...that's all.

Customize menu?? Well, i used catorise....so i have no problem putting whatever program in whatever folders i want!

I agreed about night video mode...i try out night video mode...i thought it is SLOW...framerate is slow and i probably never use it and stick with regular mode with smoother frame rate.

As for media player...i like that you can stream video off the pc...pretty nice actually. The "play" button on the desktop that sometimes not working seems to work for now.

Overall, i like 1.2 A LOT..it's faster...browsing is faster and play flash is smoother. I like that they have a "BACK" button now...very important as i have complaint about it. Rootf space saving is HUGE. Improve in media player.

Everything is snappier.

however the OP does highlight how ignorant end users will always blame the product manufacturer in the first instance instead of the the 3rd party app developers (no *****ing here, because I, for one, am eternally grateful for the time and effort - mostly unpaid - that these guys and girls put in for luddites like me) who don't get around to updating their apps for new fw releases.

Having said this, it would be fair to assume that once an application reaches extras, it should be guaranteed stable for use with current fw....or removed from the repos until it is.
I actually made a thread about this and i got so much abuse thrown at me it was unbelievable.
The problem is people can take comments too serious because of the time they have spent on making an app but the facts are facts and i stand by my words that untill an app is proven worthy not to cause problems to the OS it simply should not be allowed in any way or form without the knowledge of the actual problem to be downloaded from this forum, what should happen is the maker of the app should get together with another and get it right with community help because after all that is exactly how a thriving community works... help each other.
The community is slowly but surely getting tighter and only when we ALL work as a team will progress be made and i might add a lot lot faster than it is going at the moment.

If for any reason someone is not happy with the new update from Nokia their is the obvious solution and that is re-flash to 1.1 and then bright back to the update they are happy with (the emmc may also need to be flashed here) as the N900 is a completely flexible tool and will not break in any way or form through programming fw,s and emmc,s.

2.- There are ways to return to PR 1.1

Ok guys..... he is not so wrong! Ok with PR 1.2 we have a lot of bug fixed... but there are also a lot of stupid things!!
