The most F'**D up part is that you can't downgrade back to prior firmware because Nokia modified the cell firmware. !!!!

I´m a bit afraid that their QA process is done with plain and only Nokia installed apps and to phones that have been in so called good care.The problems is that there is and will be 3rd party apps that directly affect Nokias image also so there should have been QA with developer FW release before official but Nokia in their great wisdom wants to do everything in closed doors and what has happened here with some people is not actually suprise :| It will happen quite likely in future if Nokia chooses not to test FW with community.

Downgrading is possible. Lets search.

To all people here who have this problem. Could you help yourself and list applications/widgets etc. that you have installed so we can try to locate what causes this.

Angry Birds + Lvel Pack 1;
BatteryGraph;
Blubbles;
Bounce;
Catorise;
e**(j pi);
Extended call log;
Extra decoders support;

Flashlight;
FM Radio Player;
fMMS;
Foreca;
Freecell;
Gonvert;

Not too many, nothing out of the ordinary. Please don't ask me to reflash because others did it too and they're still experiencing this bug.

Re: Screen glitches on incomming call with PR1.2

@sanki,
About reflashing. YES some people have flashed but not entirely. Only rootfs and they probably have restored their APPS from backup so that pretty much ruins whole debugging process.

So first just disable all the widgets from all desktops and reboot and try to reproduce the issue. Please bear in mind that debugging takes sometimes quite a lot of time. Problems do not appear in one day or so so be patient and systematic.

Re: Screen glitches on incomming call with PR1.2

attila,
So you have flashed fiasco and vanilla what did you do after that? Restore contacts and calendar entries? Do you have micro sd? Did you enable official widegets? Did you enable email? Did you enable IM contacts?

atilla 2010-06-08 20:50

Re: Screen glitches on incomming call with PR1.2

Apparently, it worked. I have uninstalled Foreca and Recaller, reboot, and tested it a few times. I couldn't reproduce this bug.

Then I have installed Foreca once again (no recaller because I realized I don't really need it), and everything was fine.

Will let you know if the bug shows up once again.

There is a bug report for this:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10567

I contributed with some of your statements.

Please vote for the bug but don't add any comments like "yeah, it's really annoying!"

i managed to get a video shot of the glitch...
maybe somebody could add this to https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10613 , 'cause i don't have a bugzilla account

Re: Screen glitches on incomming call with PR1.2

simpu,
Good stuff!
Making account in bugzilla is quite easy.

.edit
Also i can reproduce this now. After reading people comments i first thought that this happens even when you are using n900. But this is specifically related to proximity sensor.

..edit
Or maybe not. Now it functions normally. Damn. This could be pretty hard one to reproduce.

That is exactly what happens with mine. I receive a phonecall, I hit the green button and the Conversations screen comes up. I then have to manually open the phone app to answer the call.

Meanwhile could one workaround to this be that you set phone app to be always in landscape?

thanks to simpu for providing video of the screen glitch
that is exactly the same as what happens on my n900

certainly looks like this works...
and i just noticed that the landscape-screen is the "shrinked" one on the glitch-screen. didn't knew that before :p

@simpu: you are awesome!

@slender: you seem to know what you're talking about. there is something wrong with the widgets. I have noticed that the bug has appeared once again after re-installing Foreca. Everything was OK, but this morning I've reproduced the bug several times.

Just removed it, cleaned with "apt-get --purge autoremove"...the glitch is here to stay.
Anyone tried to reflash clean ?

Re: Screen glitches on incomming call with PR1.2

I'd like to change my vote from No to Yes.

I haven't really seen it, but it happened to me today. Only once, though, and then it was gone. So no biggie, but I'm technically affected, so, for the record, was 109-13, it's now 110-12.

Also, mine didn't look like Simpu's shot, my screen only moved for a little, and then fixed itself after some maybe 300 ms. Given the fact that my phone is always-portrait, the flipping might have masked it thus far.

Also, it happens with high uptime or high system load. Fresh booted OS is fine.

Tried to re-flash. So virgin clean device...got this too! Not mayby as bad but it's there.

It would be super annoying except I don't use the phone much.

I turned off the automatic rotation and forced phone app to portrait mode. Now I have no problems with the phone app. :)

Have not seen the problem since I switched to landscape. Lucky this works around the issue otherwise the N900 becomes a brick to me if I can't answer all calls..

Re: Screen glitches on incomming call with PR1.2

I have noticed that the incoming call in this case is not marked as Rejected or Answered, but similar to Silenced. When I end up to Conversations app in answering call it is yet possible to answer to an incoming call - I close Conversations app, open a Phone app and can answer the same call which I missed due to screen glitch.
Screen glitch has been occured when Phone app is set to be in Portrait or Automatic without auto rotation. Haven't tried Landscape mode yet as it's unconvinient to hold the phone in this way.

PS Apps installed only from maemo-extras

Wish I were as happy about having the phone sideways every time there's an incoming call....well, tastes differ that's for sure:)
Tried to overclock the device - same old S... !

What do you mean sideways? Portrait is the same as every other phone on Earth.
