Mine doesn't work today too, though last night I was able to access it and download some apps.

What's funny is that I can get to https://store.ovi.com and login successfully from my Safari browser on my mac... I tried using the Firefox for N900 browser and my login works ok. So is OVI store now hostile to the N900 microB browser and it's default user agent string? This change in behavious is recent; as of a few days ago, my logins to the OVI store using the microB browser were working fine.

Edit: has this been reported to Nokia -- they manage the OVI store, no? Check your user agent string by pointing your browser here

Mine is "Maemo browser", is it the correct user agent? can you post your string if it is working?

That's the changed User Agent string.

Settings > Hide User Agent > Remove.

(I'm also having this problem as well. Good thing I already downloaded all there is to download... :p )

Re: OVI Store not available

Downloading from the ovi repository still works for me - though the web interface also says my device is not supported. I fired off email to both ovi and nokia about this, though being a Sunday I don't really expect any answer for a day or two.

Re: OVI Store not available

For info,

for me it works fine if I have English (UK) as device language.
Since I was on a travel I've tested it in Spain, France and Switzerland through both GPRS and WiFi in the last 24 hours.

Everywhere it broke only when I've switched to the Greek language (and unfortunately didn't think about testing using a third language).

The default user Agent string for microB should be,

Code:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l; en-US; rv:1.9.2b6pre) Gecko/20100318 Firefox/3.5 Maemo Browser 1.7.4.8 RX-51 N900
But is not currently accepted by the OVI store, neither is your string "Maemo browser". The one used by the Mozilla browser for the N900 is, (transcribed by hand as this browser doesn't yet support mouse mode to copy text):

Code:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l; en-US; rv:1.9.2.1) Gecko/20100330 Firefox/3.6.1  Fennec/1.0.1
and it works for me in accessing store.ovi.com. You can reset the default user agent string in microB with the "Hide User Agent" addon, as has been described elsewhere in the thread.

Edit: I programmed the above user agent string into microB and I am able to go to 'store.ovi.com' and do a successful login... so this may be used as a workaround for now.

In contrast, trying to go to 'store.ovi.mobi' gives me the usual "Device not supported". Trying to get to the store via the OVI icon in the apps menu gives me the usual error panel advisory that I need to update my Maemo 5 installation!

Buddy how exactly did you edit the strng in microb as described above to make it work? Thanks

delaroca 2010-06-28 01:47

Re: OVI Store not available

The easiest is using "Hide User Agent" available in the Maemo repositories.

But while I can access successfully the store, download links don't work... they use 'store.ovi.moby' addresses which when entered generate "Device not supported".

Sigh! Back to square one... :(

Re: OVI Store not available

I fired off an email to Ovi on Saturday or Sunday. The guy that responded was quite helpful, said he is using his own N900 and it's working for him but also offered several suggestions in line with everything mentioned here in the last couple of pages.

I did let them know that it wasn't an isolated incident, a lot of chatter about it here on maemo, not firmware related because it still happens even after flashing both the rootfs & emmc back to good old metric bog standard. Ovi is working fine on my N95, so the issue appears to be at their end and not ours.

I got the impression that just now they don't believe us. : ) Hopefully they'll figure it out though. I would suggest a few more of us fire off email to Nokia and Ovi, the more the better.

I do have sympathy for you guys with this Ovi Store problem, hope they sort it out :)

On another note...you are not missing anything trust me. The Ovi Store is so poor its not worth mentioning. I was laughed at by my mate using his iphone last weeek. He said, 'What the f**** is Ovi Store? It sucks hard' i almost punched him but realised he had a valid point.
Most of the great apps/games for this phone come from the repos' them guys deserve the true credit for anything worthwhile with this phone.

Just checking, but does it work with the native browser? There are some issues related to Firefox and Ovi Store.

1. Type: about:config on your browser url.
2. Search for useragent
3. Just switch to mouse mode and double click on the line to edit.

This is actually pretty effing sad. I am generally willing to cut Nokia a bit of slack but its been days with this issue and nothing has been done. Somebody needs a punch to the groin

Re: OVI Store not available

I can confirm Ovi Store not working for me. I'm using MicroB, no hide user agent installed ever, PR1.2 US version, English language, currently in Israel. This has been going on for about a week or so...

The same issue is going on with my N900, was able to access the Ovi store a day ago and now getting the same message everyone else is recieiving!

I will also send an email to report issue.

Just sent an email a couple minutes ago and reported the problem on the Nokia USA website, hope to get a response soon.

Re: OVI Store not available

I cant believe Nokia is not aware of this issue - of OVI not working on N900.

I havent made any changes in mine and suddenly OVI does not work. So its certainly something Nokia did on their end.
And up till now not a response as yet - its Monday already ?

I think OVI will go the way of the Dodo if this is how Nokia handles issues.

Has anyone synched their N900's with the ovi 2.2 suite? Just trying to back track my steps hoping I can figure this one out.

Great scripts, thanks - I have use for it :)
Too bad that this script is unable to fetch Angry Birds LevelPack1 ;)

I must say that this "interruption" in Ovi Store is really getting on my nerves. I was actually trying for the first time to buy something from Ovi Store and this happened. As they say, timing is everything.

Ovi Store Guru's and Kurko's...
Please fix this issue. I want to play Angry Birds without iPhone.

Pretty please :p

Ok this is the response I got from Nokia:

Quote:

Based on your concern, I would like to suggest restoring the factory settings on your device. In order to do so, just go the Menu > Settings > tap on the title bar above the screen > choose restore Original settings.
Has anyone tried this?

Just talked to their support. They said they are "updating" the Ovi site and working on it. It should be available within two days.

What a canned response that was. I know I havent done anything to my N900 so why the hell should I factory restore ? Seriously is there no communication going on in Nokia ?

Why dont they make some public anouncements or put somme proper message on the website when they do updates so everyone is aware something is on.

This string of PR fails is now really getting on the nerves.

Agreed. I'm supposed to spend (literally) hours restoring my N900 to factory, reinstalling all apps, etc., just so I can access their crappy Ovi Store? Forget it.
