danramos - i've had my n900 since november. to me, it was a great deal when i paid $500 for it. getting another one now for less than $200 is a steal to me. i do not feel abandoned by nokia. what, is my machine going to stop functioning just because it's not going to receive commercially supported meego? no! and getting a bunch more n900s out to users right now only encourages tablet development at nokia. so i'm going to get a second one (if they ever get them back in stock), and i'm advising my friends to do the same. hold the ad hominem, please.

The whole "it doesn't suddenly stop working" thing is exaggerating. My N800 didn't suddenly stop working either, but you'll note the stagnation and lack of updates. You too shall revel it its sudden lack of stopping and instead stagnating in last year's point in time too.

Ad hominem or not, it's worth mentioning that giving them more cash promotes what they do, whether you dislike it or like it either way. Fairly said, that.

The problem is that Nokia is not trustworthy in fulfilling those rebates. I did not receive my N900 rebate or a rebate on my N95 (despite properly filling everything in). After half a dozen phone calls, resubmissions, etc., I have still to receive anything.

I frankly just no longer trust Nokia or its partners to make good on promises.

haha, I didn't. I wasn't going to buy it at all in fact when the specs were known, after following every nugget of leaked info about it on this forum. I bought a second hand one much later for £240.

Such as the opening of the video driver, and the MeeGo hardware adaptation? I find it quite impressive for a device that far past its prime.

I'll believe it when I see it running. Opening of the N800 video drivers? As I recall, it wasn't opened per se.

I think it was. At least TI made a press release about it. But I don't know what happened to it.

one for two years just suits me fine
e.g. my N78 still runs smoothily after two years since my graduation from senior school

It's out of stock and no deal as described in the first post is being offered -- correct? (Bummer, I skipped the thread this morning thinking it was spam :( )

So, am I right that the deal no longer exists, or am I doing something wrong?

don't know if the deal is over or not but the n900 is listed as "temporally out of stock" on the site.

i was unsuccessful in purchasing. nokia said my card would not process even though my bank showed the charge and said no problem. now its out of stock. i called and spent an hour on hold on the phone, only to have them tell me they would call me back. no call back. just a 'your order has been canceled' from a noreply email. eat a dick, nokia

Appears that the deal page formerly linked here:

Doesn't show up anymore... Does anyone else know if the deal is off now?

The promo still lives here, but appears to be disabled. Perhaps they will re-activate the promo when/if they have more stock available!?

Edit: Promo has been removed from Nokia site.

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

Daydreaming of what Nokia is thinking with this discount. In a large conference room the dialogue ensues for exactly 2 minute, "All they do is complain", a moment of silence, then suddenly "hmm well you know the easiest way to show them that we don't care is to sell their darling, the phone many of them waited months for in order to pay full price on down to a fraction of the original - it might hurt our bottom line a fraction of a fraction of a percent and think of how many of them will finally understand", with understanding another Nokia exec. speaks "We don't want to give them the impression that we care about their needs, they've already bought the phone, we are done.", "yes, this discount will make it clear as day that we aren't interested in providing support for their device, and more importantly we never did." The scene ends with a bit of laughter, and the next point in the weekly meeting is announced.

Okay... so you don't own a N900, you're more than glad you never invested in one, and you're apparently quite happy with your Motorola.

I'm just curious to know why you squat in so many N900 threads with often subjective and off-topic running commentary. Don't the Motorola forums keep you occupied pushing their devices forward?

manager #1: we can't. there are to many. we must surrender the source.
big manager: surrender ? never ! we shall drown that forum with so many fools the flame wars will ensue forever !
manager #1: but how do we bait so many fools ?
big manager: haven't you learned anything in marketing ?! rebates, people ! rebates !

I'm sitting around, on my N800... still waiting for that whiz-bang moment when SOMETHING justifies buying an N900 (or whatever new thing Nokia, or not ANY MeeGo manufacturer) releases that satisfied my needs for a pocket-sized Linux computer. The Motorola Droid is my phone, not my little computer--although it's surprised me quite a bit, but I don't trust it'll ever fully replace what I had in my N800. What's your excuse?

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

By the bye, if anyone's still watching for the deal, I talked with 3 NokiaUSA salespeople yesterday and got three different answers. The first said, we have no idea if we'll get more stock. The second said, check this evening and in the morning. The third said to watch for more stock to come in this week, but not tomorrow...
In the interim, the N900 page on NokiaUSA went from showing the N900 as out of stock to in stock, with the button to buy the device removed, and then in the evening (EST) disappeared entirely, and the phone was removed from the list of phones on the NokiaUSA page. (I then called the third NokiaUSA salesperson, who said they would get more in stock this week.)

Sigh.

Cheers,
Jon

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

Edit: OK, so, I'm not so sure about the stock this week. I called NokiaUSA yesterday, and they said, well, look in the evening. No sign in the evening. I also asked if the summer280 code would be reinstated to be used when the N900 was back in--they said it would be. Finally, I called again this morning (Thurs Aug 19th) and they said they'd call me (right! not entirely sure given the performance of their email notification) and that the N900 would be back in stock sometime, but they didn't know when -- probably 1-2 weeks. Sigh.

N900 back in stock at Amazon for $399.

It shows as In Stock now at the Nokia USA store.

If there's a deal to be had, I don't see it. Price listed is $479.

Edit: msnbcnnbcbs, you were a bit ahead of me. Didn't see your post. Still, tell us if you see I'm wrong and it can be had for <$200.

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

I had jumped on the fliswap deal but the phone went out-of-stock before I could buy it. I have an old 6682 I am trading in.

I tried the coupon code (ffsummer2010 15% off) but it doesnt work anymore. I was told they were giving 10% when the coupon stopped working if you called in but this was earlier this week.

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

Well I'm glad my pessimism was misplaced. Although I still am wondering why they pulled the order page.

I hope that they do reinstate the summer280 code because I would like to replace my Samsung Impression and as much as the leaked N9 intrigues me, spending $400+ would be a tough pill to swallow (Yes I'm aware the summer280 is a rebate).

jonathandueck 2010-08-20 15:03

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

they did indeed reinstate the code. but I think they're out of stock again. Just got my order in under the wire.

TheTree 2010-08-20 15:16

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

I see the N900 in stock at NokiaUSA, but the summer280 code doesn't seem to be working for me at the trade-in place.
