As of now,,places is not working in UK,,,but some body said here that they r able to use it in UK ,,but the suckiest part is,,it only runs on wifi

facebook places is defo working in the uk cause all of my friends have been updating where they are all week with there iphones, i downloaded maemo geo location & installed firefox & have tried it on the facebook touch site, my gps kicks in & picks up where i am on my wifi at home but whin i try to put it on facebook it comes up with an error saying something about the latitude & longitude has any1 had it working in the uk on there n900 yet?

ive been using barriosquare for a while, it does the same thing only better, as it posts a little map of your location to your FB feeds,
you need to join foursquare.com first
barriosquare has some issues but its been working perfect for me lately

I tried both microb and firefox (fennec), both got the same error unfortunately. (Couldn't determine the coordinates...)

Just tried firefox (fennec) 4 beta on my N900, Facebook Places checkin now works.

I notice adding new places on firefox is broken. When you add it, it shows an "[object]" on top of the page.
On microb, I can add new places properly, but checkin is still broken.

places seems to work on 3g with the new Firefox 4 Beta 2 - at least in germany and for me it works - microB still produces the longitude & latitude error -for those of u who still have problems might want to check out the new firefox

doesnt work on firefox for me (longitude problem)...ive jus updated to pr1.3 via flashing and jus redownloaded it from ovi store..maybe im using the wrong firefox???

yea not the ovi version but the beta one from the mozilla page
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o.../binary-armel/
and then use dpkg -i to install it but u should remove the ovi version first

thanks @fr3sh! this really works and folks called me the min i checked in and said "u got an iphone??" haha

i used the file manager and opened the .deb file instead of using x-terminal liek u recommended..thank you thank you...now let the check-in frenzy begin..muahahah :D

I use Fennec beta browser and found it's the only browser that can handle Fbook places with any reliabilty. :)

Are you using the one from the Ovi store or the one linked by fr3sh?

i am in the uk

got it working by downloading the fennec beta .... i have to use facebook touch website.
also to add a new place (such as 'my house' 'my work' etc) i have to use default browser and visit facebook touch.

thanks to all who gave input towards getting this working on n900

I'm unable to add a new place via Fennec (get Object>object) and it fails. Using MicroB still get the coordinates error.

I added checkin functionality to the effing application. Now you can do facebook places checkins from the N900.

Hi, I had same problem in microB, that error with lattitude.

But i got it working on my n900

I am in UK, on vodafone, got latest firmvare (debranded)


what I did, was install maemo-geocashing from app manager

and install firefox from ovi store

then go to touch.facebook.com in firefox, and dont go to places, just click icon next to your status update line, and it should works.

after check in, if i wanted to check in to different place, I had to close and reopen firefox and do it again.

but working fine

i did not tested in microB vrowser yet, will let u know later if anyone interested

Places works well on Effing and Opera 10. whatever for my N900. Not so good to mostly not at all on Firefox. I am pretty sure I updated with the fennec stuff already.

I have maemo-geolocation installed, and it doesn't work for me either. Works as it should with Firefox 4.

@Turkishflavour, were you able to actually check-in?

Finally managed to get it to work (sort of) on Opera, but everyone is saying 'install maemo-geolocation' but no-one can say HOW to do this!!

the effing updater is a good idea, but one issue i have is that when inside only the cell loc can be used. effing gets a list of local hits, but can be a few miles away.. and need ability to search for actual name and/or keep set of favourite locations

i get We couldn't determine the coordinates of this location. Check if your latitude and longitude are in range, and verify the format of the location.

when i try to check in using touch.facebook.com, i have geo location installed.

i knoq there is Eff and it does work but i dont want to use this as t doesn't allow me to tag people with etc

any ideas

I've tried tagging people with MicroB, Firefox and Opera and none of them let me SEARCH for people. I type their names in the search box and nothing happens. I have to browse through my list of people to select them...

same here. I think that worked a month ago but now it's not working with any browser. same thing with location search.
