Looking forward to trying the new OS. Although with all the extra's installed on maemo and the overclock I think it'll have a lot to compete with. Maemo itself is an excellent OS.

Its always the way you get your device set up exactly as you want it and they release something to temp you LOL.

Interesting to see Meego comments, might even make the N900 usable, assuming lessons learned with Maemo are not taken forward into Meego.

Even people who hate the phone and think it is crap want PR1.3 to come out, so at least it might fix some of the bugs that litter the OS, so not sure why anyone would whine about 1.3 finally coming out?

But it ain't here yet, no one knows exaxctly what is going to be in it till it is here and what lies beyond it? Could be utter pants that corrupts everyones phone afterall, it coule be a hack to fix the hack that the community created to stop them grabbing information from your phone in 1.2. It could be a 'lip service' patch with no real substance, just to keep the capitulating and swooning fanbois happy. At least Nokia can then say "Well you had a 1.3"

I looked for my comment about predictions for PR 1.3 because it was so insanely negative that it would show you guys just how surprised I am.

This is excellent news! Albeit I'm still a bit skeptical if PR 1.3 is in fact "close" ... ;)

a integrated dualboot option would be really epic.
i guess it would be the first time you see a firmware update on a phone which allows you to dualboot.

excuse me? atleast I've only celebrated about the fact that Nokia enables multiboot to meego. but this is how it goes with every PR: someone has really unrealistic expectations and as soon as update is rolled out, you can see them trollin' and hatin' all over tmo...

The most saddest news is ISO and camera function will not be fixed and nothing will be added to it as well. Which mean no extra function to the camera app and No FIXED to the bunged camera app.

I hope the new kernel came with more options to it like wifi hotspot enable so then we don't have to install Power Kernel just to get this hotspot working properly. Jukuspot cost money and not always working but I prefer the Community version instead. Realistically, hoping to see more extra enabled functions for the community to take advantage of.

I really wish Nokia would just release the drivers and everything to the tmo lol. Would be the dream come true. truely opened source

Yes, I tried it. You can't boot to UI directly with that one due to bug #8330. Fixed now though. Wait for a new image next Wednesday or roll your own.

i am a n900 owner, but unlike the clear majority of geeks here i am not technically skilled :-) i have the following questions:

1) what does it mean to be able to "dual boot both maemo and meego" on the n900? does it mean i get to choose between maemo and everything i have on there and meego on a screen after turning on the n900? having both os with saved stuff doesnt fill the n900 storage capacities?!

2) what limitations will meego have running on n900 given that the n9 is more powerfull in terms of hardware?

No OVI Maps again?? should hv got some low end device like 5230 rather than spending so much in N900 and not yet hving turn by turn. Thought nokia has learned and would correct in 1.3 but alas was wrong. Pretty bad !! :mad:

I'm very glad like everyone else here in this thread about the news of MeeGo at N900. The N900 is the best device they've ever made.

However, one thing confuses me a bit, what way is Nokia going to take when they now have both Symbian 3 and MeeGo. Are they going to divide their phones in two segments, where some get Symbian, and some get MeeGo. Isn't that somewhat confusing on their market focus, especially since they should keep themselves strong in the competition, iOS, Android and now Windows Mobile 7.
I'm curious about what strategy they have in mind.

No, my point was not to intrigue, but to analyze this :

if nokia has internal policy about not specifying facts about product releases and updates, how comes that it does specify what the product won't contain ? Maybe i'm missing something ...

1) Yeah pretty much, normally if the keyboard is open then you see a menu otherwise it just loads Maemo. There's plenty of space on the internal 32GB for Meego or on the memory card - I wouldn't worry too much.

2) Probably run a little slower - but the N900 is still very powerful and it will run it just as well.

Ifyou are a Nokia employee then show us you batch. No batch is no proof and so not genuine. Therefore you are just messing with out mentality at its current state of weakness.

Changelog is accessible only inside Nokia, that is true with every company out there. Internal work will not be revealed to outside world and PR1.3 will be released eventually. We all know that and we all know that anyone out there could have faking it for the sake to get KUDO thanks counts from people on the forum.

So if there is no proof of your Nokia employement then I'm not convinced.

If you have noticed, nokia has put all their eggs in the open source basket (symbian foundation and meego), so i guess they want two shots, just in case..also their strategy seems to be meego on high end phones and symbian on bread and butter phones.. And complete app interoperability with QT..
