Lol it wasn't mine buddy, I wasn't really expecting anything big with the PR1.3. All I want is to get the stupid camera bug fixed :D
I hate taking video and stuttering, frames dropped and taking picture with ISO setting

It won't let me update without pc suite, pc suite won't let me update it, and word on the web neither will Ovi Suite. Also I read people loss the ability to watch facebook video. They even tried to reinstall tweakflash. Another complained about losing all his concacts. I think I am going to shy away from this update for a while. Good luck to Maemo and those that update!

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

A lot of my apps now don't work with PR1.3 (Mupen64Plus, Hermes, Mobile Hotspot - extras apps I guess). I guess it would be because of the power kernel being disabled in the update?

The above command gives this:
/bin/sh: kernel-config: not found

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

more performance is ALWAYS welcome... so i guess PR1.3 is a EXCELLENT UPDATE! :)

im about to install it, and i hope that VSYNC will be fixed with the updated SGX530 driver.

...and i really hope it isnt the last... and that we'll get flash10.1 in either Maemo or Meego - as well as a fix for the Dropping frames in videocam...

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

what performance improvement? self-induced disappointment? so i'd guess using my n900 is pretty self-induced. bugs such as music lag during rotation/power button is still there. it is pretty annoying, and u really have not use the device to not notice it. so is it too much to ask for them to fix some obvious bugs? i guess the best way is not use any nokia device again, then there won't be self-induced.

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

Downloaded and updated via ovi suite. Made a backup on the phone and in ovi suite beforehand. Phone rebooted then I applied the ovi backup, phone rebooted to almost-like out of the box. annoying! only contacts and photos were restored. Phone backup (via sd card) restored all my geeky settings, and then app manager redownloaded all my apps. Haven't checked everything yet, but MfE still won't sync google calendar, and nothing looks or feels any different. Gave 2 hours of my spare time to this, wasted I reckon. Funny - I had a strange feeling it would be like this, maybe something to do with previous nokia updates..? I just hope those "hundreds of" performance tweaks aren't total BS.

No. I cannot install on my nitdroid :( , nor some real droid phones. So far, only Samsung Galaxy has luck. Anybody?

Phone display bug seems to be fixed, but I still need more testing to confirm. Thats good enough for me.

I did it at 6 am in USA. Error message sometimes are total BS.

Back up your stuff
boot into maemo
connect to a winPC running PC suite
update software updater, takes 3 minutes
reboot your winPC
get back to PC suite, it took about 2 minutes to find your N900, just wait
click software updater, follow instruction, dont touch anything until the PC screen said it is done, your N900 will flick a few times as if it is done or dead, but dont touch anything..till the PC screen said it is done updating
reboot, restore backup, enjoy
whole process took less than 10 minutes!

Nitdroid nuts: this does wipe out your nitdroid, so backup apps and desktop before upgrade. After upgrade, redo your nitdroid installation just as you did before, go to my thread, nothing changed, same instructions, same exercise, same outcome, in about 8 min. No big deal.

It restores your wifi key, and almost most your app, not all of them, some apps need manually add

Pretty useless for now until there are a lot of applications that take advantages of this new library that make good use of it.

Yea, was hoping for:
1. Voice Dialing (Nokia 5800 has it)
2. Ovi Maps Voice Navigation (Nokia 5800 has it)
3. 3G Video Calling (Nokia 5800 has it)
4. Flash 10.x (Android has it, I think)

Hopefully the new QT4.7 will speed up these features being adding later.

I like it over all...

although I still can't access the Ovi store... says I need to go to AppMan and upgrade Maemo... which is silly because I just did.

What were you expecting? Seriously!

Definitely an improvement!

Running at 1150 xlv swap at 30, transitions all down to 5 and this thing flys!
So much more responsive than before.

Tip: Turn screen press click and vibration off. Not having pulse-audio constantly making silly noises makes alot of difference.

iphone beater right here folks

You wouldn't happen to have changed the browser's user agent did you? If so that's the cause.

i m a lil bit confused on the QT thing. with the update, does it mean we can use Symbian apps now??? or we will be able to in the near future???

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

I predicted about six months ago that this upgrade would be anemic. It met my expectations.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference between an N900 that was upgraded and one that was not. That wasn't true of PR1.2.

LOL, is it that obvious?
I gave my Nokia 5800 to the wife.
I wanted something with physical keyboard and not Symbian with faster CPU and GFX.
Which I got with the N900 and am happy with.
Just wish some of the other phone functionality was there too.
Cant have everything I suppose.

Atto 2010-10-26 02:09

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

Well, might be just my head, but it really seems to be faster...especially the browser (gmail is opening really quickly...) and the media player, who used to lag when playing first time...will have to use it more often to confirm it...also, might be just my impression, but pictures taken by the camera seem to be clearer...but this one I can't really compare right now...should have taken some pictures before updating...
So even though there isn't any new features, the performance improvement more than makes for it

droll 2010-10-26 02:36

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

the hildon-desktop bug is still there. this is where it starts consuming CPU cycles when the phone is idle. easiest way to trigger it is to enter and exit from application categories using catorise. do this a few times and then run top and hildon-desktop starts eating up > 5% on average when it should be around 1-3% normally.

on the flipside, the phone seems snappier overall. not just because of transition to portrait but there is less tearing in the graphics and scrolling seems smoother.

Re: PR1.3: users, was it worth the wait?

happy to see all the bug fixes and hope to see others. A bit disappointed that that there were no new features. Really hoping for a new qt-based Ovi Maps with voice and turn-by-turn cause the Maps we have sucks. Better Contacts app wih groups would be nice, too

Anyone else experiences problem with phone application ? It used to auto switch orientation when I was holding it vertically. Now it doesn't and yes I checked settings for "Turning control" :S

Nwm, bug is gone after reboot.

Just tried it out, and it's working fine on mine. Updated it to PR1.3 earlier today.

Does this update require you to reinstall all apps?

This decides whether I do it now or not.

Depends on the method. If you upgrade it from application manager, then you'll keep your programs and settings(except for power kernel)
Other method will reset everything except for personal files(Everything on EMMC).
