why u make mmcblk0p4 as extended partition ? >>>

u can make it primary partition and it will work without any problem :)

the reason is i simply want to have more than 4 partitions..i'm planning to install ubuntu 10.10 later on mmcblk0p6..

extended partition is only a container for the logical drives..

if i make mmcblk0p4 as primary partition, then i will only have 4 partitions..mainly mmcblk0p1(MyDocs), mmcblk0p2(home), mmcblk0p3(swap) and the newly partitioned mmcblk0p4...

quoted from http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/file/...titions-c.html (please read the full article for full understanding)

Quote:

A maximum of four partitions can be placed on any hard disk. These are sometimes called primary partitions. The limitation of four is one that is imposed on the system by the way that the master boot record is structured.
another one quoted from http://www.optimizingpc.com/install/...gharddisk.html

Quote:

In total you can only create 4 partitions on a hard disk, that's why you also have the possibility to create an extended partition. An extended partition can be divided in many logical drives, which makes it possible to have more then four virtual partitions. It's wise to create one primary partition for Windows and one extended partition and to split up the extended partition into different logical drives.

hey mido buddy i guess i have run into some problems. As you know i have been telling you that i want to partition my EMMC using the instructions given on the link below. (Post #1588)

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1652293/+1587#

Now when i follow those instructions through GParted on my Ubuntu 10.10 u will see what i get in the 3rd screenshot.

The first & second screenshot is of my present N900 setup. I have used ur 8GB custom EMMC that is why my home is 8gb

Now my question is I want to partition MyDocs which i think is mmcblk0p1 into 3 partitions i.e one for NITDroid 0.0.9,second for ur custom gingerbread one(the lastest one of the two) & third partition which i will later install Meego 1.2.

Can you show me how i can partition MyDocs to 3 partitions: 4GB for 0.0.9, 4Gb for Gingerbread & remaining 3GB left for Meego 1.2 later. After all these partition MyDocs should be left with 10GB if my maths is correct.

Please can you help me out here bro???

Thanks for all the help you have given me so far...

I Have chosen the device memory only in the last screenshot but in GParted it shows 21GB (which is MyDocs) as unallocated & does not let me create a new partition also..that is the problem

Can you give me ur setup? What steps you followed to setup ur N900?

remember that nexus one has only 200 mega internal memory

it's very very very very very very very very very enough

and u should know something important >>>

games are big because of their data files which saved in memory card not internal storage of the system

i installed all big games and all PROGRAMS and i have more than 1.6 giga free

I know u have used a 5GB home partition.Whats the actual sizes for the rest? These values don't tell u the actual size.

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11

MyDocs : 21 giga

the rest will be mmcblk0p4 which is extended partition : 3.5 giga

then make 2 logical partitions one 2giga or less and the other is 1.5 giga

I am refering this link to partition my EMMC.

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1652293/+1587#

Read Post #1588

In theory isn't necessary a new partition for every installation

i.e. this configuration:

1 - for stock maemo kernel
2 - for kernel power 46
3 - for backupmenu
4 - NITDroid 0.0.8
5 - NITDroid 0.0.9
6 - Gingerbread by mido.fayad
7 - Gingerbread classic by e-eyes

is possible with a single partition (eventually even a only bigger optFS) and some simple patches to multiboot code

@mido.fayad

I still get failed error:no such file or directory when i try mount /dev/mmcblk0p5 /and

I repartitioned again with MyDocs now at 18gb,Home at 8GB & Extended partition of 3GB (both mmcblk0p5 & mmcblk0p6 are 1.5GB each)

Also I do not have /and directory when i check through WinSCP.

ok , i thought that u already have nitdroid before so u have /and

anyway , it's simple

write the following

root

mkdir /and

then follow the instructions

Hey does anyone have a custom emmc image I can flash?
Or can I create or edit one from Ubuntu and flash it.
As I don't want to have to screw around with my current installation.
I would rather just backup and reinstall ;)
Thanks in advance! :)

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11

@ maemo55

i think ur problem is : when the program asks u about rootfs backup , u choose optfs backup

so u should have this error

YOU SHOULD choose the correct optfs and correct rootfs when the program asks u about them
