Yes, you need the kernel

Thanks HtheB.

Is kernel power V46 stable now? Is it already in Extras?

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

@kulas
It maybe not in extras but 99% of the users can guarantee you it's stable as other old versions. It's just Titan didn't promote it.

Do not want to be inpatient but how does David distribute the drivers, is it an auto email reply or is he doing it himself manually?

Hi, I succesfully instaled bleeding-edge driver, injection is working.
I`ve nitroid with multiboot and kernel 46 installed, now in multiboot i can`t go to kernel 46, I have guru meditation error...is there any way how to edit multiboot to delete this line. or make it work again?
I don`t understand it properly, but if I choose stock kernel, or power kernel 46 from multiboot, the bleeding edge driver is not loaded?

Obviously because when you choose power/stock kernel you aren't using the kernel made for injection drivers. There's a reason why lxp distributed the drivers with a customized kernel. Cause if kernel is not neccessary he would have just provided the modules.

If you just followed my tutorial, you would have the default power46 too :)

What exactly do you mean by guru meditation error?

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

well, in multiboot I have now 4 options:
1: stock kernel
2: power kernel
3: power kernel with bleeding-edge driver
4: nitdroid

if I want load option 2 power kernel I have guru mediation error (boot or install files missing..don't remember exactly)
however I didn't try option 1 or 4 yet.

My camera stoped working after installing the osso-wlan included in the bleeding edge package! Every time I open my lens cover the camera app fails to start. I had to reinstall the original osso-wlan package to fix this issue.

Did anyone had any issues while installing osso-wlan that was included in the bleeding edge driver?

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

Ok, I`ve probably found a solution in another thread postet by porselinaheart, will try it later
.
Quote:

1) First of all, please backup/copy the folder below to somewhere safe:
/lib/modules/2.6.28.10power46

2) After you are done, FROM THE PC, extract the "zImage-2.6.28-maemo46-wl1" file from "wl1251-maemo\binary\kernel-power\kernel-power-bootimg_2.6.28-maemo46-wl1_armel\boot.."
(dpkg the bootimg .deb might work just as well to put the kernel into /boot, but i didn't try it out as it might overwrite your original power46 kernel)

3) Copy the file to /boot ON THE PHONE

4) Copy again into /boot/multiboot, and then rename the file to "vmlinuz-2.6.28.10power46-wl1" without the quotes

5) Now, go to /etc/multiboot.d and create a new .item entry called "02-Maemo-2.6.28.10power46-wl1.item"

edit the file as follows :

Code:

ITEM_NAME="Maemo 2.6.28.10power46-wl1"
ITEM_KERNEL=2.6.28.10power46-wl1
ITEM_MODULES=ext3

6) Next, from xterm, run these commands:

Code:

sudo gainroot
cd wl1251-maemo/binary/kernel-power
dpkg -i kernel-power-modules_2.6.28-maemo46-wl1_armel.deb

7) Now remember the /lib/modules/2.6.28.10power46 folder that u backed up just now?copy the folder back into /lib/modules

8) Reboot and select the new kernel from multiboot. Your original power46 kernel should load as well.
edit:// 2amok
my camera is working fine with `osso`

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

Great tutorial, but I have 3 questions...
1) My camera isn't working neither, and i never installed "osso", what to do?
2) Everything I find a key, it shows it to me as some kind of mac address format, you know like xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Why is that? is that trully the wep key, I was able to crack three networks and it always shows me that, is it really because people choose random letters/numbers as keys? until now i haven't found a proper word or sentence or passphrase...
3) How is it, that with all three networks I cracked, I always end up using the same IP address? just the 4th packet changes. And my 3 networks are in 3 different locations... at first i was thinking i was failing and connecting to my own wifi, but i can't be connected this far out...

@IsaacDFP,
2) well at least in my case i can confirm that it was the correct wep Key ( testing on my own network )

3) What do you mean same IP address?? Do you mean MAC address?? Are you talking about using a fake authentication attack with aireplay-ng??

Multiboot is not needed, it's just there in case you want to switch between different kernels.

Up until now, Aircrack-ng has been nothing but educational, and I keep learning so many new linux things :) (I've been a Windows guy all my life)
2) To be honest, I haven't played around with WEP configuration in years! I trully don't remember if a wep key is self generated or can a user customise it? I know with WPA, one can an entire sentence if needed to. But with WEP, I understand the limitations of 64 and 128bit encryption, but does it have to be ramdom alphanumerical (or hex) keys?
3) No no, I really mean IP address, I find this very weird. Well I based myself on the "Personal IP Address" widget. From the 3 networks, one if my gf's, one is a friend of mine, and another is a neighbor (who...I might have omitted to ask permission but he knows me and i'm not planning to do anything wrong). All three networks are sharing almost the same IP as my home network (WPA2 connection), I get all the time 192.168.2.xx now why is that? I'm still faily new to Linux, in Windows ipconfig /all would give me my answers, showing the proper IP address, MAC address and network name im connected to. I tried ifconfig -a but it gave me weird things I did not understand... :(

Creamy Goodness 2011-01-11 07:50

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

the wep key is always a 10 or 26 character HEX key.
some routers let you enter a plain text character string and it uses a non-standard algorithm to convert it to a HEX key. this makes this weak encryption even weaker...
anyways sometimes aircrack knows how to reverse it back to plaintext, sometimes it doesn't. depends on the brand of router i guess.

This is normal. 192.168.blah.blah is the IPv4 internal IP address block. There's another one, like 127.10 or something (look it up, I'd say).

Whenever you're on a router, you'll probably (if the router is obeying the proper standards, and you aren't connected to a router which has multiple 'external' IPs to assign) get an IP in that block.

This was part of the IPv4 standard in general: The 'external' world has any number of IP addresses. However, when you're communicating with your internal home network, your machines might need to pass data between each other. They can't view 'each other' by IP addresses that exist 'out there' because then they wouldn't know where the data is actually meant to go. The internal or external IP. So the internal IP address blocks resolve that. Nothing 'out there' ever reports itself as having an 192.168.something.something address to the outside world. However, behind routers, internal networks use addresses in that block to communicate with each other.

The easy way to know what your 'outside' IP is is by going to www.whatismyip.com or something like that. (There's other just as good ones, that one's just easy to remember.) Since that website's server will see your computer's communications as coming from the router's outside IP.

So yeah. It's working. (But at any rate, if the routers you're hacking into are in the same general area, let alone neighborhood, you're going to get external addresses in 'similar' blocks too. Quite possible the first two numbers would be the same. (But you can and probably will see different routers assigning you the same IP address internally.)

The 192.168.2.xx is a fairly standard address for local area networks (ie. the network in your home). The router or cable modem that supports this network will have the unique IP address.

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

My bash scripting skills are still in the early stages, but I created two scripts which are executed by QueenBeecon widgets to put the card in and out of monitor mode, and loads and unloads the drivers (just in case anyone else finds them useful):

Clicking widgets changes the states, screeny of it:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/9...1401424.th.png

Code:

#!/bin/sh
# You'll either need execute this script as root, or allow user to
# use ifconfig/iwconfig in the sudoers file (which is my method)

mode=$(/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 |grep Mode |awk -F : '{print $2'} |awk '{print $1}')
if [[ "$mode" == "Managed" ]]; then

sudo /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 mode Monitor
sudo /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up

echo "Monitor"
exit 1

elif [[ "$mode" == "Monitor" ]]; then

sudo /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
sudo /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up

echo "Managed"
exit 2

else
echo "state error"
exit 127
fi

The driver loader/unloader is here

Anyone have any tips on how to improve it?

As the drivers are unloaded on reboot, I had to use a "state_file" to keep track of whether they are loaded or not during up-time, and before a reboot or shutdown occurs the state_file is set back to "unloaded".
(Not sure what would happen if the phone loses battery power and turns off though)

Why? Power Kernel is stock kernel + happiness + sunshine + rainbows + cure for AIDS/cancer/Parkinsons + solving world hunger.

Not really, but it's basically the same thing, plus extra stuff which is better. If you WANT to overclock/undervolt, it can do that, but there's a bunch of other stuff it does that the stock kernel doesn't do, that has nothing to do with dangers like that - but many are things I'd say are required for anything claiming itself to be a 'mobile computer'. (IPv6 support - everything is starting to slowly shift to supporting it/using it ; iptables, etc, allowing for very effective firewall-ing; and a bunch of other modules which I don't remember, but are actually useful - like the thing that enables getting battery temperature, the module for USB-internet, etc).

jd4200: I don't have any suggestions right off the top of my head, other than using "lsmod | grep [name of module]" to check if a certain module is loaded, instead of saving the state inside a file (less writes to flash chip, and avoids your sudden-reboot/shutdown/battery-flies-out problem).

The modules loaded with the current version of injection driver are different than the modules loaded with the stock driver.

(Also: Holy **** that's an N900 desktop? That's customized beyond recognition. Looks like I've been REALLY out of date when it comes to desktop/widget/theme changes.)

Cool, thanks. I thought it was loading different modules but under the same name, so I didn't bother with that route.

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

@Mentalist,
Agreed but PowerKernel is not always reliable in term of stability when new PR is released. And I'm happily with the Stock Kernel for the Mo after reflashed and found that my N900 is did not have the infamous issues with processor spikes after 24hours. So I think i'm staying for now, and some apps will not work with Power Kernel.

Is Joikuspot work with this kernel46? Heard that it didn't in the previous version though.

First off, thanks alot, made a lot of sense, even looked it up (even as something simple like http://www.192168ip.com ,lol). Now i have a question, is there currently a widget that displays your "outside" IP on connection?

I'm new to QueenBeecon, so I may be doing this wrong, but:

Then put the scripts below into:

/home/user/MyDocs/wl1251-maemo/binary/compat-wireless/

(or wherever your driver folder is, if it's different make sure you change the location in the above QueenBeecon config files).

Code:

Interface status

For this to work you need to give your self permissions to use iwconfig/ifconfig to change the interface properties which normally require root privallages.

So add the following to /etc/sudoers:
user ALL = NOPASSWD: /sbin/ifconfig
user ALL = NOPASSWD: /sbin/iwconfig

You must edit that file with "vi" (use the command visudo).
Don't use any other text editor, they can screw with the file, seriously messing things up.

Code:

Load/Unload modules.
Don't bother with this one yet, it's not working right. I'll update it when I figure it out.
For this one to work you have to create a "state_file" to keep track of whether the modules are unloaded or loaded.
So, create a new file called "state_file" in /tmp/ (nano /tmp/state_file), and then write "Unloaded" into the file and save it. (If you have them loaded, the write "Loaded" into it).

To make sure this file is recreated on reboot, add the following:

echo "Unloaded" > /tmp/state_file

to this files:
 /etc/event.d/hildon-desktop

A bit messy really to accomplish something simple. I'm new to bash, so I'll have a look later to see if I can get it to work without have to mess with the sudoers file, or use the state_file.

Re: [TUTORIAL] How to use aircrack-ng with the bleeding-edge wifi drivers

If you put the state_file to into /tmp/whatever it won't get saved to disk (well, unless it's swapped, then it's saved to the swap partition), and then you're avoiding a decent amount of flash wear. You can then also always put a script in /etc/init.d/ or /etc/event.d/ that would create the state_file, with the value of 'unloaded' upon ever boot, so that you don't have conflicts between surviving state_files left over from unexpected system crashes/power-offs. (actually, you can do the latter without the former, to set the value of state_file to unloaded at boot.)
