I'm just hopefull about the future of Nokia devices when i see the design of the E7! IMHO it's one of the (if not THE!) best lookin designs of a mobile computer ever! If they keep this up they will get it right eventually! + we know that Nokia is capable of creating amazing OS's aswell (Maemo! No?)

I'm really excited!

Here here. Before getting my N900, I was a Nokia S60 freak, going from phone to phone, but fairly happy with what S60 offered, as I wasn't even all that bothered about using a web browser (mainly due to co$t and having access to computers all day). Now I'm on the N900 I couldn't live without it! It does EVERYTHING I need and much more. But knowing what Maemo is capable of and comparing that to what I know (first-hand) of S60 and what is in the reviews about Symbian3, I don't think it's worth the risk to jump ship, even if S3 gets a load of fancy updates in 2011. It just won't be as versatile as Maemo. But I agree with a previous post, that Symbian (both S60 and the new 3) fit well for a lot of people - like my girlfriend, who watches me tweak my N900 with a look of "OMG you're CHANGING settings??!" - she'd be happy to have a more user friendly UI like Symbian. She wouldn't even know where to begin (or care) with installing fMMS or Tweakr!! That's where Nokia know Symbian will keep the $$$ coming in worldwide. And then there are geeks like us... ;)

Re: With the E7-00 coming next month, is anyone jumping ship?

4 things I'd like to know.

1) What phones could run Maemo 5, that would actually work. (My N900fell out my pocket and was crushed by the bus I was trying to run for. So I walked home after that :( This was Y-day btw)

2) What is all the talk about android 2.3 this that. I mean I ran nitdroid on my device, what going to happen when Googls Honycombe comes out could our N900's handle that??

3) If both of my answers are a no then Nokia need to do a N900-2 because this device is loosing the speed race and other specs. hands down was the best phone now the E7 and N9 are here anyway, HTC have phone that can raw out perform our N900s now.

4) Where does the compatibility stand with Meego and the E7 and would it be easy for the developers to migrate their apps from the Meamo 5 to Meego. If so I think the answer is pretty closer.

5) I know I said 4 things, which is why this needs no answer. If all of that a no, then it looks like the insurance company will have to replace my n900 with a n900 this is all before I make the claim btw. Just wanted to get a few things clear.

Thanks in advance

Also the threat of Windows 7 Mobile. LMFAO what a peice of sh*t

Re: With the E7-00 coming next month, is anyone jumping ship?

I did the change from N900 to Nokia N8, just got it few days ago (company bought for us) and I am glad with it. Even though N8's browser infuriates me at times I hope that with the new update things will get better.

My girlfriend she has a Nokia N8 and, recently, we have traveled to greece and I was amazed at the pictures it took.

What is awesome in the N8:
+Camera (o'rlly?)
+HDMI+Mouse support (in greece we used as our photo editor/email/browsing)
+3rd party apps (Yes I am shallow... I like spotify, foursquare, nokia big screen etc)
+Nokia Support: Either Ovi services (maps/mail/online/suite)
+Battery life

What I dont like:
-Calendar: N900 calendar it is still miles ahead in easy of use compared to the N8. Maybe some getting used to it still.
-UI feels clunky, even though snappier than N900

What I miss from N900:
+Browsing
+Skype integration
+The extra GBs of onboard memory

What I dont:
-Lack of Nokia support for its own services (Calendar/Maps/Suite/etc)
-Lack of 3rd party apps (I am not talking about tertminal-script-ish apps)

N900 was a lot of fun when I got because I was so excited to develop for it. But this whole platform change really turned me down. I can not say I have been burned by jumping head first but I want what a more mature platform offers me.

I had an iPhone and hated the way the phone controlled me. My next phone, if not a Symbian or MeeGo, would be an Android.

---------
I guess my point is depends what you want your phone to do for you. Nokia N8 performs very well and even impresses me sometimes.

Re: With the E7-00 coming next month, is anyone jumping ship?

What I like about the E7-00 is the looks. And I suppose the Nokia software is more mature there (Ovi Maps i.e.).

But going from the N900 to the E7-00 would be like going from a tablet PC to an Ipad. It'd just make no sense to me, what so ever. Trading functionality over oily slickness. Bleh. >_<

All these guys here getting seduced by the Symbian.

LOL! Don't do it. Symbian was good at s60v3 for the N95 and the E90 but after that it went to the wall. All this talk of updates every few months, and step 4 of 5 and all that bullcrap. I fell for that crap when I bought an N97 at launch. I ain't getting another Symbian phone. Ever.

I don't believe that at all. Maemo (as a phone os) was just a little side project for Nokia. Symbian^3 is a whole different story.

so far the motorola Atrix and LG optimus x2 are FAR better options than the E7 and N8.Nokia is staying behind....they must either show something with the N9 or I`m jumping ship to the dual core phones.I`m not eager to do it though as the N900 is more than adequate to handle everything so far....and this is the first time this is happening, not being eager to switch phones because the N900 is such a great phone.

Re: With the E7-00 coming next month, is anyone jumping ship?

Right now I am sick of Maemo and Bada and fiddling with bugs and limitations. The E7 is the nearest to what I want, but the N9 is probably? exactly what I want. An N9 with Symbian^3 is probably more what I want to be honest.

For how long you've had an N8 (or was it a C7)?

Well, i already jump to N8 from N900 after owning it for more than a year. Never regretted... cos indeed no matter what phone you have... and if it is lack of apps... your phone just ain't or can't competed in the real world.

I know N900 is awesome phone.. but what good if you unleashed a Bugatti fast car but only allow driving in a school zone.

Hope one day Maemo if still alive with a lots of apps then I might be back :)

If Nokia are keeping Symbian for low/mid range phones, and are developing Meego for the top of the range smartphones, how come the E7 is being touted as the company's best smartphone ever, is price-tagged at a whopping $600, but will have Symbian 3, the same OS used for mid-range phones like the C6? Here's a thought: seeing as those rumor blogs show pictures of the N9 looking (very) much like an E7, shouldn't Nokia just withhold the E7 and wait until Meego is ready and release the E7 with Meego? Because if the rumors are true, it seems to me that the N9 will be released later this year, if I bought an E7, I'd probably want to ditch it 6 months later for the N9, a phone that is exactly the same in hardware, but has the newest and most exciting OS.

E series == Bussines People == willing to pay. Also they have said Meego will not be OS at E-Series.

So my guess is if people her compare it with N-series/N900 phones or Android they getting dissapointed. This phone is not for geeks or multimedia/games..

But I must say I really like the design :-D Í hope new Meego handset will look even better.

Got myself an N8 yesterday. It's a great device, and certainly a much better smartphone than the N900. I didn't buy it as a replacement, though. It's a complementary device that enables me to have a smartphone that 'just works', so I can tinker with my N900 without worrying about missing an important phone call/email etc.

I can't say I blame you for turning your back on Symbian after owning an N97, though. N97 owners were royally shafted by Nokia. I had a 5800, and that has received much better support despite it being half the price of the 'flagship' device.

Thats quite odd, as I cannot understand why are you so against an operating system which you've never tried. Have you ever had the chance to hold an N8 or a C7 in your hand?

OS here or there (plenty of midrange Androids nowadays, too), it's a Communicator with all the office/business/whatever integration, so definitely outgunning models like the C6 by quite a margin both hardware and software-wise.

Have you ever held an N97 in your hand? It's actually a very nice phone aesthetically with a nice form factor. But if your easily seduced by a pretty looking phone, that's your business. What a phone looks or feels like don't mean s*** to me in all honesty. The N900 ain't pretty.

Symbian is Symbian. S60v5 (Symbian^1) or Symbian^3. It's all part of the same family and it's still Symbian underneath no matter how they try to dress it up and I ain't going there again.

I bought the 'flagship' device when it first came out for a hell of a lot of money and I can't express how disappointed I was with it, and I was stuck with it for a year. I had problem after problem with it. Irretrievably lost all my contacts and a whole s*** load of other stuff. And don't say that I should have backed my stuff up because that function had stopped working too. How is it 'quite odd' to want to steer clear of a brand that caused so much disappointment? Go back and get dished out a bit more disappointment, yeah? Quite odd? Cheeky **** son of a gun.

edit* Oh Efekt.....your signature is the biggest contradiction I've ever seen. You call me 'quite odd' for steering clear of Symbian forever and your signature says that.

But you bought another device from the same manufacturer, and one that is unlikely to receive any further support from Nokia.

The N900 was a kind of last chance saloon for me. I've always been a bit of a Nokia fanboy. I quickly realised after signing up for the N97 that I should have waited a couple of months for the N900, and it was an itch I had to scratch.

And I was right. Out of the box, the N900 has EXCEEDED my expectations and is head shoulders above the other thing I bought. As for the lack of support, that doesn't bother me. There is a good....and quite unique community here which you don't get with many other phones.

So my problem isn't Nokia so much. It's Symbian. Urgh, just saying it's name makes my skin crawl lol.

I've held and played with almost every Nokia device (even very old ones), this includes the N97. Yea, it was pretty bad, but in time and with the latest firmware updates its pretty usable. Still not as good as the N900...

Anyhows, I urge you to get a hold of an N8 or a C7 for a few minutes - you'll be VERY surprised at the progress Nokia's Symbian has accumulated - its actually pretty snappy, and I know some people who threw away their iPhones for the N8 and they're VERY happy with this decision.

NOT ME! Symbian ship is too old and got too much bugs/glitches and mysteria freeze of death and low battery when making phone call. lol.

Symbian devices never have sufficient RAM.

Hi,

Look like you are a French citizen.

I can try to flash your E7-00 with phoenix.

I have resurrect so many E7-00 from bad firmware flashing process.

Even when the phone doesn't start anymore (no boot and keep on black screen).

If you are in 'Ile de France' we can reach each other to give it a try ...

A++

www.rzr.online.fr, use Phoenix and flash it with cfw, maybe you played with your SIM card and got disconnected keyboard, but that wouldn't do anything to touch because touch is connected on different place, so, i doubt it's hardware.
you can find cfws on dailymobile forum
e7 is best symbian device nokia ever made (still didn't tested pureview) though.
//edit:
i am running moded Anna (my own cfw) named Maria Anna :D still didn't upgraded to belle :S
