Another brick with no support and no apps?

No thanks. Meego just got killed, lets face it.

There will never be a Meego phone (from Nokia). There might be a tablet at some point, but I bet no phone.

Indeed. Up until today it was android or meego. I guess it's now android or WM7. I still prefer android by far, but am intrigued as to what the nokia/ms alliance may bring, especially as nokia HW hasn't been in question, and froma quick play WM7 is actually pretty nice UI-wise, just somewhat feature limited (apple-esque?)

... funny how many posters here said Ari's departure meant nothing and Meego was fine ...

you know wat they say about change?
you do the same, and you will ALWAYS get the same.
So for all you people that are like "meego's doomed :( "... you need to sit and think about why nokia had to make a change. at the rate they were going, they would lose thier place as the #1 phone maker. They made a change, which is exactly wat's required. half of you have never owned a god damn wm7 phone and you're here bad mouthing. you might aswell go to android or apple cause thats wat those fans are like. I thought nokia fans are supposed to be non-judgemental. F***in' hypocrits.

and in case you dont realise, meamo only came out with ONE device since the release of the n900. so even if meego comes out with 1 (like nokia is puting out in the second half of the year), wats wrong with that? and meego will comeout with more than one device.
i gaurentee more than 80% of you who say you'll switch to android, are gona be the first ones drooling and pleading on ur hands and knees for a nokia wen they release meego.

Elop doesn't give a rat's *** about the Nokia userbase. He cares about the shareholders (whoever the hell they are) and reversing Nokia's sliding market share. The old Nokia (of late, anyway) couldn't decide or execute. Moving to WP7 may not be the popular move (it sure as hell isn't around this place), *but* it may actually, you know, materialize, unlike the mythical Step 5.

I am speechless at how naive you are.

I suggest you read ALL of statements and material put out by Elop and Nokia today before you further assert that Nokia will continue to back Meego in any substantial way.

And if you STILL do not understand after reading all that material... well nothing in this world can help you.

I think the piece of sh*t elop is getting paid my MSFT and not nokia and is like working as a spy to introduce WP7 to nokia.. what an ***!

I ws never this frustrated.. not even when my n900 would reboot over and over itself..
Neway.. I think im gona get an android phone today and slowly start getting used to it as there is no hope for meego now..
I hope elop and ppl involved in this decision sh** in their pants over and over..
LONG LIVE the n900.. LONG LIVE maemo..

Yes, this is why I've been increasingly been saying I don't trust Nokia. I don't think that's even an issue any longer, it's obvious. It's the main reason I opposedt the takeover/renaming of InernetTabletTalk.

Re: Amazing - Elop lays the axe on Symbian, MeeGo and QT

While I do realize Elop HAD to do something different I think he just took the shirt cut to shareholder-worthy success.

Instead of claning shop and rallying the do-ers within and bringing in new blood and ramping uo the Meego development cycles and the geting the hardware teams to make them bring-to-market devices quicker etc, he just decided to ride an existing competitors coattails to short-term success (if that happens).

He didnt create a new Nokia. He just decided to ride on the back of MS to bring immediate suceess. A true leader in this posiion would have actually turned around the failing Nokia on its own strengths.

He would have made Meego (or whatever inetrnal OS) be the catalyst for a new challenging change. Of course that required hard work as he wod have to clean house, remove the fail points (in the slow Maemo/Meego development ) and bring in a urgent dynamics to make it work.

Instead Elop goes wih a already week competitor product ( admitedly MS was a better strategic choice than Android) to get the sharehders their moneys worth. Week leadership I wod say for a long-term run.

Yea, the bright side of this is that developers which didn't have the willpower to leave before now will (or the're simply shown the door). Nokia has no use for software R&D anymore. They just need cheap parts.

Re: Amazing - Elop lays the axe on Symbian, MeeGo and QT

Nokia just jumped the shark. I guess there's still a lot of jobs for meego but that seems rather perilous atm especially since they just alienated a lot of people who would be into meego.

Given that dalvik had been ported to meego I thought there was some chance it would actually take off, since it wouldn't take too much work to port existing android apps if they didn't just run already.

I think it's a good deal for Nokia partnered up with Microsoft seeing they're going no where....nevermind, whatever the hell OS (meego crap) they're bring out, it WILL FAILED because nobody like Nokia compare to Android and iPhone. So i don't see why you guys are upset.

On the other hand, i can careless as a consumer, this deal will open up THREE opportunity and THREE distinctly different choices, iPhone, Android and Nokia/Microsoft phone. I still enjoy N900 but after this, it will be 3 distinctly different choices that i can pick. I might pick an iPhone but i like open source phone like Android...and Microsoft Windows 7 phone might not be bad...so we'll see.

Look, EVEN if this partnership deal never happened, i don't think i'll be considered another Nokia phone...so.

Also note: Elop is a Microsoft guy...so it's obvious where and who he want to partnership with.

There is hoping history repeats (in sense that Nokia appear changing their strategy all over every year), so a year from now announcement may sound:

"Windows phone platform didn't sell as good as planned. The only Meego device released last year exceeded sales expectations significantly. For reminder of 2012 resources will be split half and half between Windows and Meego phone platforms. Two new Meego phones will be released before the end of 2012."

Just speculating... but lets hope history does not fail to repeat in 2012.

Speaking of 2012, if the world is going to end then why do we even care? At least it seem the Nokia board does believe in that. In that sense their latest strategy makes perfect sense? (Just pee in your pants and feel warm a while, since that is all the time we have?)

Re: Amazing - Elop lays the axe on Symbian, MeeGo and QT

Each reorganization imposes delays in a fast-moving environment. Every time you get off the merry-go-round and try to get yourself together, it speeds up and it gets harder to hop back on.

Meego was a big change and there was a big delay. This is an even bigger change.

I think that a steady, consistent stand is needed from the person running the show. Changes have to be made cautiously but quickly.

I think we are seeing erratic behavior at the top. More erratic behavior by someone else won't help.

It will take Nokia a long time to recover, if it does.

Once you jump off a cliff, no use asking for advice. I'm not going.

Re: Amazing - Elop lays the axe on Symbian, MeeGo and QT

i aint so sure history will repeat itself...

... its become clear now MS has effectively bought Nokia for 0$ - M$ will drive this hard - very hard - to make the best use of Nokia while it has a hold on Nokia.

All the waffling previously seen will be bulldozed through. Whether this bulldozing is successful is one thing, but waffling about is not going to be on the menu.
