Is the font/size hardcoded in this? It doesn't seem to follow gtkrc rules?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Thanks for getting this out there for testing MohammadAG. You open yourself up to heckling and abuse :-)

Text search in Album/Artist lists works much better and faster! I notice the text entry bar hangs around after you leave and return to a screen, which is different from stock. Not necessarily bad, but different.

I notice that most of my album artwork doesn't scale well in OMP. I have a 200x200 JPG that looks really roughed up. Not sure whether it's upscaling or downscaling, since I don't know what the native size of albumart on the GUI is.

like 1/3 of my playlist shows up as blank and if I press any of those songs that don't got any text it plays the first song in my playlist which is not blank.

excellent work as ever: the entire community in indebted to you MAG!

thought that I should mention that the "shuffle all songs" takes a good two or three minutes to generate on my liberary of almost 5000 songs.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

for me, open media player works like a charme...

i only have 3 things that don't work like the stock player

1. the sortation of the music files don't work like the stock, see pictures:

Stock Media Player
http://www.id-t.at/data/smp.png

Open Media Player
http://www.id-t.at/data/omp.png

2. when i press the shuffle songs button the shuffeld song will start to play with the stock player... when i press the shuffle songs button with the open media player, the shuffeld song won't start to play

3. the album name alignment ( music overview -> sort by album ) when the text is to long switch in the stock player from middle to left
in the open media player the alignment stay at middle, so you can't see the beginning of the album name

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I strongly advise you, if possible, equalizer but remember the values set for each song.

Thanks for a great job.

MohammadAG 2011-04-15 09:06

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

There's already mafw equalizer floating around iirc, I'll see if that can be integrated.
Coverflow is planned, not sure if I want to use Qt or QML, Qt's easier to work with for me, QML produces some better looking UIs but kills memory and CPU, at least imo.
Font sizes are hardcoded, yes, used the same values in the stock player.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I can see you reasoning for creating/destroying the qml view. That really affects performance though.
If I get time I'll have a look at changing the layout so it works in portrait as well.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

It might be an idea to seperate out the whole qml part into a separate application. That way people can leave it open if they want.

Also, on my "wanted" (from myself) list is a qml plugin around maemo theming i.e. make all colors, fonts available as properties. Maybe even icons. This should help with the look and feel of the entertainment view. One could also revisit implementing qml components for maemo after that.

At least I'm assuming it's using that.

Edit: yep:
Code:

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Yes, but you need the gconf entry
/apps/camera/settings/basic-settings/device-id
as well, if you want to test, if it is from "this" device.
I wrote in my camera-ui2 source (storage-helper.h)
how the device-id is constructed.

feel so laggy and too long sometime not respons at all cause force quit while tap song on " all song " list.
hope to fix

anyway i got 1700 + song

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I have 3889 songs on my N900 and it is impossible to use this player to shuffle them all because of the massive lag. Playing single albums works well

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

QML view works fiine where its right now, it can be switch off, but yeah QML its heavy but its not as heavy as gstreamer EQ working on it.

Obvious, I had the same prob. the terminal is basically saying that directory doesn't exist, so go and create/correct it using FileBox :)

I created a folder named "bin" in the "local" folder since I didn't find it when I browsed. so now I have the directory "/usr/local/bin/" ,,
re-install again and tadaaa :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Hello.
Nice work with OMP.

This is my experience sofar:
-OMP consumes around 10% more CPU compaired to stock mediaplayer. Its the same problem with for example Someplayer.
-OMP gets muted when I get a call but song doesnt pause.
-Text in Album view is center-aligned, I think it should be left-aligned.

Someplay does the actual playback itself (with Qt Phonon), OMP uses mafw, which does the playback, the CPU usage is probably due to QProgressBar, you can check this by hiding the bar (it actually stops updating when it's hidden) by tapping the album art, then see CPU usage (in my tests, it was almost 0).

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

this is the most epic media player ever !!!! i love it, thanks a million Mag, maybe some smoothness problems , but now, with the alpha release (i'm still running the first version, don't know if there's an update) and this is way better than the crappy stock media player .
just 2 requests :
- is it possible to have an album view like on s^3 or ios ?? marixan did something like it with the early qml-cutetube developements, it was for videos views .
-can it please please play 720p videos ?????? the s^3 devices can, and it would be nice for it to support 360p, and 480p, the stock media player didn't !!

thanks a lot man .

EDIT : sorry didn't know that coverflow is in your todo list, wooohoooo can't wait, the iphone users can kiss my *** ( and if u happen to own an iphone and a nokia n900 ur not incluided :D )

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Ok, I didn't have much time but the first part of the portraitifying of the entertainment view is done. I have tidied up the "controls" and the anchor to the bottom now.
Still need to stick album art and track view into a Flow layout. This is a bit difficult due to the swapping animation. MAG how keen are you on keeping that feature?

Yea you are right.
Well I guess a feature to disable the progressbar is something to consider, cus I guess lower CPU utilization means lower power consumption.
I rearly use the progressbar myself.
