Just tested this out, and I can confirm that this is FAKE!
What a load of crap!

All it does is that it gives you the exact same image on each scan of some kind of computer chip/board. Totally useless and doesn't live upto its name. The author might as well have created an iFart app for maemo instead!

I think the x-ray-fake app could be an interesting and fun app. Imagine hours of fun during a boring seminar, and how to 'break the ice' for a boring dinner conversation. Imagine the looks on iPhone users when you're running the trick! That'll definitely be fun!

Can you release it on the standard downloads? Please???

Did you really expect a "real" x-ray scanner? "Some kind of computer board" looks like a x-rayed n900 to me. Would you mind to stay out of this and get something useful running?!

Okay, I reported your post to the Administrator:
Quote:

In my opinion this user should get a verbal warning. Insult the hard work a other forum member has done is not nice and very contra-productive.
At other posts members are whining "we have not enought apps, why are there not more apps" and pointing to Android and iPhone - "there are 100000 more Apps" without questioning how much are useful and how many are dangerous crap.

What about creating yourself a application?
Perhaps then you're in a better position to criticize other peoples work?

If you really think for more than 5 seconds that you could create out of a phone a x-ray machine than perhaps it's not the fault of the programmer of this application. It's clearly a joke application. But in my opinion very well done and works without a problem. If it would appear at extras testing it would get my vote!
Perhaps I should begin to think about donating some money to the programmer to show hin that here are members that respect such work. Sadly I don't have a Paypal account. But perhaps I have now a reason to create one!

I can't remember myself the company at the moment. But I've seen a annoying TV Advertisement for a x-ray Application for Symbian, iPhone and others... 5€ to get a video of a wrist radiograph image! And this company made a lot of money if they were able to keep this kind of Adverstising running at TV for more than 2 years! But I can't remember myself a single story where someone has sued successfully this company because his iPhone hasn't become a 500000€ x-ray detector!
Could you explain me why?

Give it a rest please! Back to topic.

BTW you don't need a paypal account to donate, a creditcard is just enough...

Neo's shades had this app running in the lenses, that is how he was able to see the the Matrix code.....

Thanks chemist. You're as always right. :)
Sometimes it's hard for me to keep cool. Perhaps I have Latin ancestors.

Donated now 15€ especially for this application! (yes, I was in rage - but it wouldn't hurt)
We need Developers for maemo, MeeGo and for the N9/50. Yes, the programmer has created more useful applications in the past. But it's the programmers decision what to develop and what not.

Somewhere in this thread the developer called this a learning project. I hope he wouldn't draw wrong conclusions about the feedback the community gave. I hope he or she wouldn't lose the passion and deliver more applications in the future.

A game would be also useless in my opinion... But this opinion may differ... and it's not about me. :)

Can someone upload a videos about this app please :D

(My N900 is still in the repair service.... I'd really like to see what this thing just looks like)

It's not possible, I tried but the powerful X-Rays were so strong they erased the video

Thanks for reporting. Fixed! :)

I adjusted some parameters but I was finally only able to test this with digital image sensors. If you using a antique camera you could overexpose your film. Perhaps you should adjust the aperture in this case. (you could use solar eclipse goggles in front of your camera lense if this doesn't work for you)

Sad to hear that your camera just broke. I hope it was not that old and it's still under warranty. Ask your salesman if it happens again with the replacement. :)

I just uploaded the fix and a minor change to extra-devel and promoted N900-X-Ray to extra-testing. Kidding aside. Please VOTE if it works without breaking your Device.
(Please be aware of the extra-testing QA guidlines - this is not testing against any kind of expected functionality) ;)

I fixed some missing dependencies. So please VOTE if it works fine at your device. :)

I was just wondering. When you take an X-Ray of the N900, is that the same as a maemogram?

If N900 could take maemmograms, it would outsell the wheel.

Could someone try if this really works?

Seriously though, can the camera sensor be turned on with the cover closed and be used to convert pixel flickers into a reasonably accurate radiation detector? Think how useful this would be in a Japan reactor melt down incident.

You are just ASKING for it...

but I am not that mean.

Yes, perhaps we could measure some radiation in the picture noise if the cover is closed. But as far as I know only Alpha and Beta radiation. The even more dangerous, the Gamma Radiation is not measurable this way. But the mobile measuring instruments (Geiger-Müller counter) are also not capable against Gamma Radiation.

But we anyway must find a way to access the camera with a closed cover... is the camera only because of the driver and software implementation not working or are some wires not connected as soon as the cover is closed?

The next issue: Who is brave enought to do the testing?

We have to calibrate each camera sensor before and we will be responsible if the application fails and some dude relies on this application.

What if the application wouldn't detect anything while someone is in real danger?

Fun is fun. And this is clearly a harmless application. But as soon as someone cold gets hurt the fun is over and from that point it's not my project anymore... :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] N900-X-Ray - this will convert your N900 into a hi-resolution mobile X-Ray unit

Other way around, alpha(a helium nucleus) will not penetrate the plastic case, beta(electron moving near the speed of light) probably not much useful penetration, gamma(photon above x-ray in energy) zings right through is ionizing radiation and will trigger a CCD or CMOS sensor.

BTW internal alpha emitting radionuclide ingestion is highly ionizing and dangerous although nearly harmless if radiated against the dead outer layer of skin.

A radiation detector app, obviously uncalibrated, could be a great tech demonstrator to keep Maemo/Meego in peoples heads even if Nokia is desperate to ditch the project.

Hi! Just thought of an app in line with this wacky x-ray...anyone want to develop it?

Can we make the N900 into a thumbprint reader (requires that you hold the N900 upright) that actually activates the N900 front camera and takes a snapshot of person and edit it so show some interpol wanted list?

I guess it is now official and I just wan't to say thankyou. My very controversial discussed Application N900-X-Ray participated at our Community Coding Competition and won the 2nd place! Yay! :D

THANKS A LOT FOR ALL VOTERS! :)

It was a really big surprise for me and I'm shortly before to say I have stopped the development of this small fun application ways to early. ;)
