its not easy to touch the right spot but getting use to it will help ;)

Thanks for that mate :) I have always wondered what that box was for? It now works fine but It should really be re-drawn as it should tell you what it does (bookmarks/full screen) but that is for another thread :P

Hmmm, I seem to have lost the functions of the load-applet (cpu/mem/screenshot) and camera reminder in the status bar. Now I do remember a menu to set these to show but I cannot for the life of me how to get to this?

Edit: Fixed this now, I went back into HAM and manually installed the standalone cpu/mem applet and maemo load applet. Camera lense reminder came back on it's own?

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

Not really a bug but after installing this, the "User Guide" magically reappears in my apps menu. I removed it before from /usr/share/applications/hildon...

Also, I noticed that the phone lock number pad is also rotated now (awesome :D ), but it could be resized to fit more properly on the right border.

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

Just noticed something this morning and wondered if anyone else had the same:

When Hildon-Desktop is in landscape mode all my shortcuts open fine.

But when I have HD in portrait mode some shortcuts do not open the app - initial screen comes up but it then goes back to desktop and app never actually opens. It seems related to Qt/QML apps at the moment (funny as those are the apps that DO support portrait mode themselves) while native N900 apps (like MicroB, dialler, email) open fine (after automatically reverting back to landscape when they open).

Some of the apps I've had a problem when opening in portrait mode:
- TwimGo
- Cute-Tube
- Kasvopus
- Sociality
- Khweeteur
- MIR Translator
- Instinctiv
- FastSMS

Just tried to open both sociality and cute-tubeqml and it both opens normally in portrait

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

I only have Sociality from that list but it opens fine for me in Portrait.

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

p.s again found the reason of messed up lock screen .
the sliders having border will be messed up in portrait mode , so either choose a theme whose lock screen has no border around the slider or edit the images to remove the border and your portrait lock screen will look accurate again .

Looks like you haven't installed CSSU?

Aha - you are correct, I havent got CSSU installed. I was waiting a bit longer to do it, was just trying your HD changes as a one off - which are still fantastic BTW (thanks). So this issue is probably my own fault. :o

Just out of curiosity, what am I missing from CSSU updates that could cause this?

Cheers.

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

I think I have encountered the phone issue but it is not a major one. When ending a call, I take the phone from my ear and the screen is blank. The proximity sensor realises it is not next to my ear anymore and displays the screen - but the screen shown is the desktop and not the phone program. It takes another second or two to switch to the phone before I can press END, and sometimes it rotates as I go to press it so I end up having to press it again for it to register.

Annoying, but not the end of the world. Does this agree with other people's findings?

just hung up a call .
not the same issue i have faced .
it was a normal call .
but one thingy was different , as the last time i locked my screen it was portrait and as before seeing an incoming call the screen lits for a sec or so i noticed that it rotate to landscape mode first and then showed the incoming call.
like it took 3 seconds to show me an incoming call

but still as JohnLF mentioned , not the then end of the world ....

isn't it possible to lock the orentation? through the actual lock button tbh? Since I use the double tap of power to unlock the phone, so the phone lock would switch between portrait or landscape.

If I’m inside a folder (created with ApMeFo) and rotate phone, desktop is rotating but is getting back to main menu.
Some apps crash if launch from portrait (CloudGPS, Neverball, Neverputt, Inner Spin)

try re-installing the deb because i think you've updated it with the normal non turning desktop.

some member update the HD after installing HPD the rotation works fine & so do i...i reboot, turn off & turn on couple of time after updating still desktop rotation works fine....
as i said my problem came up after i use Optimize N900...now my HPD wont rotate anymore...i have try reinstalling normal HD with killall hildon-desktop command in x-term then install back HPD + updating but still it wont rotate...
my best solution right now is install HPD without updating the HD...

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

The latest build solves half of the problem I first reported in the original thread, with hildon-desktop.

Now:

1.When first rotating, locations of icons and widgets is messed up. Fix this.
2. All icons and widgets remember their place.
3. When rotating, all icons and widgets are in place, *except* hildon-desktop, which does not remember its location after reach rotation.

If I remember correctly it's an old bug/feature of applications launcher. But yes, there's a need for a proper solution :).

You're right. It was not introduced by portrait hildon-desktop. Please raise a bug for CSSU.

I'm pretty sure it's Microb fault as it's directly listening to mce for orientation changes.

Thanks for the new version. As said before, could you remove the restoration of the "User Guide" in the app menu? It keeps coming back when I install this package.

Thanks for update . all problems in previous version are solved but i can see a bug: when i change wallpaper or add new desktop it shows the wallpaper wrong (portrait wallpaper in landscape mode and landscape wallpaper in portrait mode ) but it becomes currect by restart or killall .

Re: Hildon Portrait issues thread

I'm afraid there's nothing i can do. User Guide is integral part of the hildon-desktop package.

Oh, ok, no problem. I thought it could be done :).

About the name of application in app menu, if it's long, is there a way to display the whole thing in portrait mode? If you notice, put the phone in portrait mode, go to app menu and observe the app name, as soon as you rotate, the whole name displays briefly and then it's truncated again in landscape mode. I guess it's not HD related but if you could notice the guy in the CSSU team it would be great :).

Hi arcean! I think I found a bug. Modifying /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate to false/0 will disable all rotations while on the cssu hildon-desktop setting it to false/0 should only disable "force" rotation on menu & phone app.

Which I suspect is the reason for microb behaviour. It was my understanding too that "lock applet" should alter rotation behaviour only of hd home, tasknav and app launcher, leaving up to applications to decide whether they should rotate or not. Anyway great work till now.
