Your memory wasn't corrupted. The EMMC wasn't working at all. It is possible that it became disconnected from the motherboard or maybe it just failed. Connecting to a computer won't cause any permanent problems, the worst is some filesystem corruption which can normally be fixed with a simple filesystem check or worst case a reformat. The only thing you can do that might reduce that problem from recurring is not dropping your N900.

Still i would advocate for 'safe removal procedures' from any PC, may it run Linux or something else.

How did you managed to get a new N900? Here in the UK they have been dishing out the N8 and E7 as replacements for the last few months!

When Nokia call me, Nokia say me if is a solution a new N900. I say yes, I only like the same unit but new. And I have it.

When I was visit the Care the last 2 times, the "careman" say, if SAT not repair and change the unit, the N900 is not available and is posible send me a E7.

But remember, Nokia Spain send me the N900, not in a normal visit to Care.

About Memory Corrupted, I know my old unit was hardware damaged, not only software. But I see a lot of people with software memory corrupted and only like prevent this situation.

I've the same problem in my 32gb emmc too :(
and i can't find new emmc or fix my one
no fsck, repartitioning, formatting or anything could help! :(
