Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
I had this nice app in my Nokia N8, which was unfortunately stolen. Now I have a new N9 replacing the N8 and am downloading the apps I had bought and are still compatible with the new phone from the store. But it seems that I need to pay again for the N9 version. This has not been the case with any other app so far, so I wonder whether this was intentional?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Hi Vaaterei,
I'm sorry to hear about your N8 and your problems. Squeezster for N9 and Squeezster for Symbian are listed as different items in the Nokia store. The reason is simply that, at the time I registered Squeezster in the Nokia Store, I wasn't aware of that different platforms could share one item number. So I registered one Squeezster for N9 and one Squeezster for Symbian. Since Nokia store handles everything around the buying process, you could contact their support and ask them to transfer your buy. I will support you if they ask me. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Well, I liked this app well enough to buy it again :D
A few questions though: 1. Could localization (translations) be possible? 2. The favorites view seems to be missing the album cover art. I seldom use other than the favorites, so covers would be great. Is that possible? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Thanks vaateri :).
1. Localizations would be possible since it is supported by the QT framework. It isn't anything that I have looked into it yet though. 2. Unlike other requests to the Squeezebox server, the result list for favorites doesn't contain links to icons. Therefore favorite icons aren't shown. However, I can see that e.g. the web interface has icons presented, so I will try to find a solution for Squeezster as well. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
something i really like is your option to suppress the screen timeout while the app is active... it got me thinking... would it be possible to make a dedicated single function app to do just that... much as there are already apps for toggling bluetooth, flight mode, power saving mode... etc. i would happily pay for such an app...

If you do the same on a Squeezebox, the tracks are shown in album order. Also, when you select one of those tracks to play, the whole album is put into the Now Playing list (whereas with Squeezster, only the selected track is put into Now Playing). Would be awesome if they were consistent. Edit: This is with an N9. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Thanks for the feedback. I'm now aware of these issues.
I'm working on an update, where the control structure will be more like the original Squeezebox controllers. However, the Squeezebox controllers use a variant of the communication protocol, which I have found no documentation for. I have done some reverse engineering, and I now think I understand how it works. The implementation is ongoing, but I'm not close to release the updates yet. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Thank you! I'm so glad I found this app. When I learned I would receive N8 as my new work phone I was afraid I would not find the only app for private use I need on a smart phone. It seems to work fine so far on my 2. day using it. Although the current version 1.0.0 have all basics covered it is somewhat limited compared to other remotes longer in the development.
As my current SB system has 2x Touch, 2x Receiver and 1x Controller creating sync groups of multiple players is high up on my wish list ;) I also use the play back function on the Controller frequently. A much used function by family members with Android phones is the capability to download current playing track from local library to the phone. Another thought. I use the browse folder menu a lot as my music collection is untagged WAV files. All SB devices I have remember last opened folder. This is a nice feature as I frequently select the wrong track or album (folder) when looking for a single track. Thank you! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
I've might have missed something, but after a phone crash I wanted to reinstall squeeszter to my n8, but it seems it's no longer in the ovi store. Anyone knows why and whether this will be permanent? I did quite like this app...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
That sound strange. The app should be available, and according to the store reports, there have been downloads during the last week.
Do you still have the problem? By the way, I'm about to finalize a new version of Squeezster. The N9 version will hopefully be uploaded to the store in the next days. The Symbian update will follow a bit later. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Is there any possibility of getting Squeezster on the E6? It would be great if the same release worked on the E6, but I would happily buy it again if there were a different release for it.
Has landscape orientation been considered? |

I like the squeezster app a lot, and would love it even more if it included some extra features such as sync for players.. Do you have an idea when it will be released? Greetings, Robbe |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Sorry for late replies! Unfortunately I haven't been able to work on Squeezster for some time (been travelling, moving to a new home etc.). Hopefully I'll have some more time from now on.
Short status summary: The new N9 version seem to be stable, will be sent to the Nokia store. At a quick glance, there are no revolutionary stuff, but under the hood there are big changes. Squeezster now uses the new Squeezebox communication API (called onebrowser). This enables Squeezster to use the same server based navigation as the Squeezebox devices do. Meaning that e.g. if a server side app or plugin adds stuff to a content menu, it will be visible in Squeezster without any SW update. There are other good side effects, e.g. the Favorites and Nowplaying lists will be presented with icons. - The same update has been applied to the Symbian version, but this version hasn't reached full maturity yet. @jared: I haven't looked in to the E6 platform. What happens if you install the existing version on it, or is this impossible? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
Squeezster cannot be found in the Nokia Store on the E6 so I have not been able to try it. If you are using Qt Creator then you might be able to try the simulator just to see what would happen with the layout. As far as I know the E6 layout is always landscape (640x480).

Any news yet? Do you need testers to try out the symbian version? There is an issue in symbian version 1.0.0, that if you lower the volume on one player to - let's say - 60, and then you switch to another player and change the volume there (up or down), the volume on that player will also be set as 60. Can you chance this in the new version? Thanks in advance! Greetings, Robbe |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
This app still has some issues on the N9. Sometimes it won't even start, and it happens that it locks my phone. Often it does not react on my touch. Is there an update coming up with a fix?

".config/pakarlss/Squeezster.conf" Then reset the server, start Squeezster and configure the server again. If that doesn't helps, I would need more information. Server version, size of the music library, and any particular sequence that leads to the lock. |

I'm aware of the player volume issue. If you quickly change the volume after a player switch, Squeezster hasn't received the status of the new player, and thus still has the volume of the old player in its internal player representation. The volume adjustment will be based on the old player volume, but the volume command is sent to the new player. To avoid this issue, you need to wait for some time after a player switch before adjusting volume. This hasn't yet been corrected, but I'll put it on the todo list. |

Thanks a lot for this! I use it every day.
Out of curiosity I'd like to have a look a the sources, but cannot find them. Could you please post a link? Probably I'm just blind :) Thanks! Conny |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
what really would be cool is to have the current track displayed on the lock screen. :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Squeezster - The Squeezebox remote control
