I mean it for Nemo. I didn't test swipe manager, but how does it coexist with default gestures on Harmattan? It just allows to override them?

Re: Nemo with new UI and apps!

A bit of a separate question. Why are Nemo discussions take place in Harmattan section? Should there be a separate section for Mer/Nemo, or may be they need even separate forums (or may be Meego ones or whichever).

To be honest, in light of current situation, I actually doesn't know why we're hosting categories for Harmattan - It should be replaced with categories about Mer.

Of course, I got nothing against N9/N950 categories, as far as they're related to Mer/Nemo/whatever Open thing running on it, but Harmattan? I doesn't see any reason, why Maemo community should host that. But, I don't like to start flamewar-offtopic here, so...

Harmattan is basically Maemo 6 under the hood so I don't see a problem. :)

I agree. Of course harmattan needs a category, but nemo is nemo and not harmattan.

We went through this same discussion when Mer had its big run for the N8x0 and then the N900 (before MeeGo was announced). The answer we got back was that Mer would not get its own forum until it became a major player (ready for prime time, widely used, that kind of thing). But perhaps now Nemo is important enough to the future of Maemo-lovers that the answer will be different? Not sure.

More solid self identity will help promoting the project. Just my opinion though.

I think they're pretty well related myself. A lot of Harmattan applications can run on Nemo with little (or in quite a few cases no) modification, and they share a fair bit of software stacks in middleware - it's just the UI where things differ.

That's OK, I was just thinking may it's time to make a separate site for Nemo, to improve project visibility. Unless the steering group still considers it hobby-like without a need to accelerate the project.

We have a seperate domain, and some infrastructure is being set up as-needed, like bugzilla (bugs.nemomobile.org). My personal feeling is that I don't think seperate forums will happen, though: there's too many already, and right now, we don't have much of a userbase, so it would be a lot of tumbleweeds rolling around.

Of course, there is always a need to 'accelerate' - but moving to a ghost town won't really help that much :-)

Calls and messaging already work (for some value of work), but help is always needed, so you're welcome to come and help put effort in.

If you'd like to hang around the water cooler, pop into http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=nemomobile

Re: Nemo with new UI and apps!

I agree that projects needs more visibility, and I don't think there is any problem with starting from empty forum which is dedicated to Nemo. So far this is all rather confusing even for those involved, imagine some newcomer, who wants to find out about it. Should he/she go to Meego wiki? To Meego forum, or may be to Maemo forum? What about Nemo wiki? Mer wiki? Should all of those be monitored for updates and interesting topics? Should the user first find out what Maemo is? Or may be Meego? The history of it all which led to emerging of Mer and Nemo? While I like history, not everyone has time to delve on all of this really.

Don't judge everyone by your experience, many people never even heard of Maemo or Meego, while they potentially can be interested in Nemo. So for the sake of simplicity and clarity, and for the sake of new users / project participants, I think making a separate site / forum etc. will definitely help even if the user base is very small at the moment.

As I said, infrastructure is coming, on an as-needed basis. If you read the meeting notes from today, it was decided to set a wiki up, so you'll see one of them pop up soon. If you'd like to volunteer to do wikiing, or an actual website, then come offer your assistance. Open source is about scratching your own itch, after all :)

To put things in perspective, there's ~70 people on #nemomobile (IRC). In terms of active developers, I'd probably number us around 5-7. That's not many. Of those, there's also probably not that many who visit forums often - I visit occasionally, when I remember... so you really wouldn't see much forum traffic from us, I think.

But again - if you'd like to see one, suggest it, set it up, run it. I'm the last person who's going to kill initiatives from other people - it's just that my priorities are different to yours :)

Well, I never tried to set up a forum, neither I have a server for it. But if nemomobile.org has capacity, I can try setting something up in my spare time.

Pls consider that everything was valid at the time of writing, you'll have to check for yourself if it's still up to date!
Good luck,
