Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

had troubles with meego-obs & maemo-autobuilder - so I have uploaded the packages of v0.0.4 to google code -> links at first post.

AgentZ & gianco - this might solve the segmentation fault which might be because of to new server reponse. please try to install the new version (make sure you install for the correct phone), but before that run the following in command line:
Code:

rm -rf /home/user/.waze /home/user/MyDocs/.waze

Unfortunately, the search issue i mentioned earlier is still there for me. It also seems that i am the only one affected. Do you have any idea what might cause that?

i thought it was because of "transposition" calculation. Now i believe that it is a bug specific to certain parts in the world that were fixed in a later waze version that the one i based my code one.

The good news is that i will upgrade the waze code base to be in sync with v2.4 so some issues will go away while new ones will appear (until stabilized)

done and installed the latest v0.0.4 but unfortunately it gives the same Segmentation fault error and dont start. maybe is a problem due to Qt libs ?

The problem is - that I can't even get in the search section. The program shuts down immediately whenever I tap search new address, local search, contacts or even the search field on the top would bring me back to desktop!
I just reflashed the N900 firmware and nothing else is installed right now. Any workaround?

Overall - I'm so glad to see Waze on my N900. Cheers mate!!!

Anyone that encountered the the notorious segmantation fault:

can you please zip and attach /home/user/MyDocs/.waze/postmortem?

it is the file that is being sent to waze when clicking "send" in the crash recovery dialog (those dont reach me)

When you run waze for the first time, are you connected to the internet with a stable connection?

According to the log it looks like a lot of failed connections...

I use a stable WiFi connection inside my house. But is it something to do with those crashes when I go into search?

i searched in /home/user/MyDocs/.waze but no files named postmortem

i guess because in my case waze dont start up. if i try to start waze from the icon, it seems to start up but i can only see the gps icon appears and disappear after one second, and than it closes/crashes. same thing starting from terminal, after 1-2 seconds it closes giving the "Segmentation fault" message.

can i try to start with a debug mode option? something like ./waze --debug ?

Problem solved! I installed CSSU and now it works fine. Finally I got Waze back again, after my N85 has been stolen. I missed Shimon's voice so much.. You saved my day(s), @damagedspline.

I was facing the same problem (you just described it better), when I installed the CSSU. The alpha version (qwazer) was depended on CSSU and failed to install without it.

Do you have CSSU installed?

Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr

Just be sure you have all the repos required (Extras, Extras-devel and Extras-testing)

This project is still maintained. new intermediate release in several days. it will solve some of the crash issues, the rest will be solved in the following release.

I can confirm that sometimes on my N900 Waze freeze during navigation.
Using without asking for a destination it doesn't freeze.

I'm still using your 2nd build release and it works great!
I don't have CSSU, would you recommend installing it for your newer builds?

That's so last year! :)

The newer release require the CSSU as it have contacts integration among other changes.
As long as it works OK, don't jinx it :D especially if you are quite alright with what you have.

New release v0.0.5 - see first post with the release notes

@ScarCow please check if your issue reproduces with the new version

Edit: I have also updated the roadmap for the next 4 releases - it is open for negotiation if anyone has a different priority for the content
Edit 2: 16-Jan 23:40 (GMT+2) = v0.0.5 packages reuploaded due to a forgotten fix to the vocal instructions

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

Unfortunately, the search issue for me is still there. Is it possible that somehow the map of Hungary causes this? Is it possible to start the program without automatically starting downloading the map where i am?

Also, i don't have a ~/.waze directory. Is that normal?

:/ I'll do some further digging - can you please delete ~/MyDocs/.waze/postmortem, start the waze, retry the search and upload that file?

I hope that this data is logged, if not I will send you a binary to replace /opt/waze/bin/waze which will also output the search results.

That's OK, this directory only exist if either v0.0.2/v0.0.3 were installed.

N9/N950 users: The latest release is in the process of being uploaded to http://apps.formeego.com so if you have the testing repository enabled, it will suggest the new release as a software update if you have a previous release installed - once the package is approved.

N900 users: I am still fighting with Extras-Assistant...

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

thanks, its working almost perfectly, shows maps, navigates, everthing i needed.

with the hope it helps , here are the problems i know of.

1 it crashes in the same two places every day on the same route from home to work.
צומת ישרש ליד רחובות ובכביש בגין ברחובות
2 when searching for addresses (unlike a saved address) two things happen
if you select show on map - you get some very very far away position.
for example - a search for either jerusalem or the hebrew equiv yields the same place near yerucham.
obviously it cant find a route there.
seaching for beer sheva yields some place about 40 km west of tel aviv.
it will not find a route there either.

searching for a saved address such as home or work yields good results.

overclocked n900 stable cssu v 0.04 and 0.05 on orange.co.il

thanks again

@scarcow sadly what i want is not in the log. But as written below appatently u'r not alone :)

@sdpkom you found a similar issue (2) as @scarcow except that u both use different servers. Once i will return home on Sunday i'll try to cross your scenario with @scarcow's.
regarding the crash, can you please post ~/MyDocs/.waze/postmortem which should log the crash?

Surprise, it did not crash today, first time in weeks.
I will post it tomorrow.

Search from the text entry box still does not work.

The only change I can think of is the zoom level.

damagedspline 2012-01-22 20:52

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

@scarcow & @sdpkom i was still not successful in reproducing the search issue on my n900. it is running stable cssu and overclocked to 850mhz. as such i will prepare a test binary that should log the incoming results from the search server, which you will need to install.
just out of curiosity, when you press the "show on map" after the search, does it show a yellow "pin" in the so-called result location?
