Yep it seems to add contacts that are already using it. I dont have it never used it, don't know anyone that does. not much use lol, was hoping this allowed integration with other services. oh wells.

Here you go :) The Task Manager Screenshot is just to prove that eBuddyXMS isn't running in the background and is closed :)

Notice the Blue Flag Icon at the top status bar next to the clock, and on the events homescreen :)

Also the lockscreen notification works the same as texts and emails, takes you directly to the app :)

Skype isnt push though, its a battery consuming network hog thats always polling and active. Its an older style IM client

There will be no maemo version at all (as I said in other thread). I extracted the deb for n9 to check the contents and it was more or less similarly organized (directory structure) then installed that n9 version and tried to run via xterm. I am not sure why that particular component of Qt is missing from n900. Or maybe it has different path in n9 and n900.

people are crazy for this kind of app becasue they can replace normal paid sms with free sms, traditional im dont support push, so you will not get instant messsage when you are offline? am i right? if skype with push notification technology, i will say bye bye to whatsapp, ebuddy, etc.

ok, it's working now.. GREAT!!!
did some disable and enable stuff + reboot and it works now..
Hope there will be in icon in status bar when app is open in future + notification on standby screen (just like for messages)

Seems like sound still works when i'm on silent and app is open.. don't mind that.. sound will warn me for message in stead of icon..
But it's better to close the app when you aren't chatting.

In my case it never found friends from Facebook, kept circling - uninstalled & reinstalled it, rebooted N9 and left it circling for the whole night and it was still going round in the morning so just uninstalled it hopefully the next version works or more hopefully Nokia themselves update facebook IM & app to support places and push notification :) & video calls for Skype & gtalk then I'd assume nokia part for IM side would be complete ;) ..

Thanks for that but didn't fix for me. I didn't have any file under that folder just another folder "Xms", deleted files from this one but to no avail. Then uninstalled app and deleted the eBuddy folder and reinstalled app. Still don't have any files under the above folder just Xms folder. Now, it doesn't go round forever, it completes shortly but doesn't retrieve any contact from fb or pb. :(

Yep. I recommend to use msn/haze and facebook chat on N9. Skype is drain battery. My idle current is 15-25mAh with GSM internet. Now my N9 has been online 1d8h52min and still 6% left :). With Skype it was 40-65mAh. IF you want use Ebuddy -like app, use Peregrine, you can found it at the ovi store. It has or it will have videocall with skype!

i installed successfully on my n900 via xterm but cant find an icon of it in the app menu... :(..

can anyone help me...

p.s. i know this is for n9 but it iinstalled on my n900 without a problem... :)

Try going to x-term, going root, and then type

This should open the installed app but I don't know if it will work :P

thank you for trying out our app and providing very qualitative feedback.

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, I was following the other thread and overseen this one.

To answer most of your question, I want to mention that we're adding functionalities like Add contacts, Settings, etc. in the nearest future, same with media sending.

Push notifications should be working if your app is closed (not in background), the behavior for the app when in background will be optimized as well.

Facebook issue: we're working on this issue, as soon as an update will be available, all subscribers will receive an update.

Maemo: we don't officially support maemo as it is no Qt, so you might experience some bugs with it.

The last couple of days i've some issues with the application,
it stopped sending messages, every time i try to send one, shows a notification with the following text: "Searching for data connection..."
and nothing happens.

What can i do?

Maemo5 doesn't have up-to-date Qt libraries and doesn't support Qt components. That's why app developers are not interested in porting Harmattan apps to Maemo5 because the UI has to be re-done.

The UX design/guidelines would still be different.
One thing at a time, they need focus on getting N9 working very well 1st.
"Maybe" later N900 can come....

But, you can't publish to Ovi store requiring software from the repositories.

IMHO, this is the *one* reason why Nokia should have released another PR for N900, just to get QtQuick etc. officially supported at least to the level of Harmattan PR1.1 and Symbian Anna.

MeeGo is a offensive name for many reasons (aside from being inaccurate).
I never refer to it as MeeGo anymore, neither should anyone else.

So I installed Ebuddy XMS and at first it worked well but after half a day the push was not working anymore and I would receive the messages only when I was with the app on the screen. The messages were not received when the app was in the multitasking.

I have the 3G network internet connection set on automatic and when the push for ebuddy was active my phone would be connected to the internet most of the time and the idle power consumption going up form ~10 mA to 70mA even though I don't receive any XMS messages. Even if someone sends me a message and the phone is like this connected, I don't receive the message (as said above I have to be with the app active on the screen). So what is the point of ebuddy keeping my phone connected if it doesn't get the messages... When deactivating the automatic connection and leaving the push ON, the phone keeps asking me to connect to the internet. In the end I deactivated the push and the phone is acting normal again but I cant use the app.

i noticed that and this is specifically to iPhone users. It seems that when I am chatting with my friends (who are on iPhones), half way through, the message starts to be lost somewhere in the server, I see the acknowledgment sent to server but I don't see the acknowledgement sent to the users. I am pretty confident that they did not close the app because we are in the middle of a conversation and it happened to me on both friends using iPhone. I have another friend using Symbian phone and it doesn't seem to display this issue.

Anyone experiencing this?

Installed the new one but still I don't get any contacts loaded when I do Find facebook friends. It asks me to login and after I put in username/password it circles for a short while and then just goes away without retrieving any contacts. In the support it says that it will give me a Allow/Don't allow option but I don't get it. Maybe I have already done it when I first set it up using old version. But I haven't yet been able to use this because it doesn't get any contacts at all. I tried deleting the Xms folder in the previous version and xms-qt in the current one and tried going through it again but to no avail. Tried reinstalling, rebooting device multiple times but without any luck. Any suggestions?? thnx

EDIT: Ok upon going through how to use it, is it that Find facebook frieds or find phonebook friends only retrieve friends who are using xms ebuddy? If so, then how can I chat with my normal facebook friends if at all possible as I was in the impression that it is for this very purpose only.

uh.. you are wrong.. Ebuddy XMS is only for other users with this platform, no other instant messaging clients.. For facebook, you can just use the built-in messages client. If you go online and you use the icon for new message at the bottem right, it will show your friends!

Thanks for saving me a lot of trouble. I was getting it completely wrong :( . I was thinking it was integrated with fb and push notifications are for any notifications/msgs/requests etc that I get in fb. So, its solely for eBuddy users only. Pity me... well then I think its of no use for me for I don't seem to have any friend using eBuddy :( ..
