He has more than 5 available so I believe that he is the actual seller rather than someone who bought and found it doesnt work. Only thing that worries me now since I payed close attention, his listing mentions exchange only.:(

Not yet, I am at work now, hopefully they will leave it at the mail box I doubt though if they wont I can ask my friend to go pick it up tomorrow from USPS office. and for some reason it still says its finished thru its sorting facility in Tampa FL and the date stamped is 12-31-11, wonder when it is going to be updated.
But as soon as I get it I will post a picture of it here.

How did your square trade thingy go> did you send yours in yet?

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

the great thing about USPS, is that they are consistant.

you could expect it to be updated AFTER you have already recieved it! :)

Just curious, have you done this type of repair before? The first phone I helped replace a screen for went badly, due to my friend breaking a ribbon. If this is your first repair, I would ask a friend or someone who has done this before to help. My friend's droid was totalled b/c of his mistake. I would hate to see your N9 suffer from a similar fate, considering how much more expensive it is, best of luck. There are services online that do screen replacements for a good price.

Nope have not done it before, this is the first time I am opening a phone, will see how it goes, will try to be extra careful.

@somedude Man, my palms get sweaty just reading your posts, I would so scared! Are you sure you don't want to ask someone to do it for you? It's not like you're about to take your screwdriver to your Nokia 3210.... it's an N9!!

Good luck. And post the surgery on youtube

yeah I've been to like 5 different places to ask before i ordered it myself the parts if they can fix it and they looked at it like the same look that guy had on a movie god must be crazy when he saw coke bottle so i am taking chances, if all fails i can still send it to palco. Sorry cant do YouTube no other camera in home to use. Except for icam in MacBook will try if that will work and see though.

I feel like vomiting right now.

It is almost 4am east coast time and I was awoken to a loud crashing cracking now. Somehow my phone managed to fall maybe 3ft onto a tile floor while charging and got destroyed.

I feel like I don't have any options, I'm beside myself. What should I do please help me.

ZackMorris 2012-01-06 08:59

The bezel is cracked, I think I should I look into that place in Alabama first thing in the morning. God I'm not going to be able to sleep anymore.

It doesn't look like the whole phone is one solid piece of black polycarbonate. Look at bottom left corner of pic.

and this is how big the drop was, not much at all. I just drank 4 beers cuz of this. fml.

Wow, I feel for you man! It looks like the knock dislodged the screen, which isn't part of the unibody construction

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

I dropped mine 3 feet onto a hardwood floor, but there isn't even a scratch on it. I also leave it in the rubber case it came with (this might be what helped).

ZackMorris 2012-01-06 18:07

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

Yeah it once fell onto pavement from about 3-4 feet also and nothing happened, I really think it was the angle and falling onto the corner on the hard tile that totally did it in.

Good thing is I've confirmed with Palco they can replace the screen, I just need to find out about the bezel and the cover for the usb port and microsim, I don't think it would be much more. $170 for the screen. If I can get this tragedy fixed for around $250, I'll be very happy at this point. I will always charge this phone on the ground from now on.

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

Damn, thought i was the unlucky one. I will probably try replacing screen tonight, if it is fairly simple you can get it done for 125 then 170 will let you know

ZackMorris 2012-01-06 20:00

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

Hmm let me know how it easy it is, maybe I can get the the screen for 125 and then 80 bucks for the white housing and I would be golden...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Original...item23178d880c

Update: Just spoke to Palco and though they do not have the housing (which I think I need as the plastic above where the phone sits is cracked, along with the usb cover and microsim top cover is bent) they will install it if I provide it for them free of charge. They look to be really reputable as they are Nokia's repair center, so it looks like I am going to order the white housing and send it off to Palco to get it replaced and end up with a white N9!

ZackMorris 2012-01-06 21:48

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

Ok has anyone ordered a housing? I'm not sure if it comes with a microsim tray or usb door cover. Does anyone know? I'm thinking of getting the white one and sending it off to Palco.

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

Is the screen cracked are you sure it's broken? It seems from the video it could just be pressed back in. If the screen isn't f'd just get a new case and swap everything. The hardest part would seem to be removing the screen and that is already done.

There are two other housing auctions on ebay that contain photos of that side of the phone that shows empty slots without the tray or the door cover. On that basis, I'd make the assumption that they wouldn't be included.

Yeah man the screen is definitely cracked, and the top of the housing is too, the screen won't stay in place because of it. Looks like I have to order a housing but I'm worried about the usb door and sim tray.

alright i am proud to announce you guys that it was a piece of cake to replace the screen, the bezel as mentioned by cerobrets was not included on the screen i bought but guess what? Its just glued together using the same tool provided by the seller to open the screen with (the little plastic) it easily got out, occurs i didn't had any glue so made a quick run to radioshack and got a superglue used very very very very (stress on very) little portion to glue the bezel taken from the broken screen to new one, then put it back together, screw it and bam done. I am surprised how easy it was.

Shlt that is super shltty, I'm so sorry to see that beautiful phone all in pieces, you must be stressing.

everything is superb actually lot better than before no creaking noise and the right side of the LCD is completely flushed now before i could feel the glass cutting because it felt like it was raised.
and guys if you try it make sure you are extra careful with the USB door i managed to break that in two, now the pressing part is stuck there, not really worried about that may be will buy that when available, makes me now almost want to buy a white housing and slap that in since i also have a fairly small almost non noticeable scratch on plastics by 3.5mm jack but that will be when the housing cost drops to around 20bucs i am not paying 75 for a housing.

I'm interested in SquareTrade too. Got a totally automatic reply to my specific question about the N9, but they also included a link to their more detailed T&Cs and I see this:

SQUARETRADE SERVICE AGREEMENT SUMMARY

HOW LONG IT LASTS:
If your item is used, or doesn't have a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("Other"), then the Service Agreement begins on the 61st day after item purchase and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time.

So we should be able to safely buy a warranty from them, and understand coverage doesn't start for 60 days. Seems fair.

@ceroberts75

So you just purchased the warranty and things seem to be working out?

I got another reply from them which said:

Hello Andy,

I appreciate your quick response.

Since you do not have a manufacturer warranty for this Nokia cell phone so unfortunately we won't be able to provide you a warranty for it.

Hope that answers your question! If not, go here to view the contract summary. You can also reply to this email or call 1-877-WARRANTY (1-877-927-7268) US & Canada only, 24/7.

Hey Zack,

I checked out all the ebay listings for n9 housings, and of the ten or so that I found, two contained photos of the both ends of the phone. It seems that the housings do not come with the sim tray or the usb port cover.

I just bent my port cover and am trying to find a place to purchase a replacement. I've found the part number for the cyan door (02699M4) but a quick web search failed to provide a suitable source.

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

yes.

do not call them. just do it online as a cell phone.

they only differentiate android and iphone and winmo...then all other.

max smartphone coverage is 599.99usd

do a search online for a 30% off coupon code

and make sure that you have a reciept showing the device was purchased in USA from a store.

then, take a picture of the reciept and fax or email it in and it will all be automated.

ZackMorris 2012-01-08 00:36

Re: Nokia n9 repair in USA

I actually found a local cellphone shop and talked to them and they will do the same as palco for a total of 260 including lcd, digitizer, and housing (white one). If I buy a housing on ebay and wait for it to get here it will take up to 15 days, then another 15 days for Palco to do repairs. I don't want to wait a month. I'm just confirming white housing with them, and dropping it off on monday.

Thanks, I will do it then. I just tried it as far as almost buying it, and you're right, you just select 'other cell phone', then Nokia, then 'other' again because (of course) N9 isn't listed and with a 30% coupon code, it comes out as about $102 for 2 years coverage with accidental damage.

Let me know when they actually pay for your repair. :)

I was authorized with a valid warranty with a Singapore Nokia Store receipt...so U.S. receipt or other valid receipt needed. Coverage of up to 599.99, warranty was purchased almost a month after phone was purchased.

Well I bought it through Amazon (USA) so I could just email them the receipt, right? It's not like I bought it in cash from Dave on Craigslist. Surely their automated systems just take over when it's all done online, right?

after numerous denial over the phone, i did it online and just forwarded the receipt from Negri to them Ann it automatically got registered within 30seconds of me sending it. Yes so even after all the screen crack mishap i got square trade warranty, lesson learned

It did in the past from a higher fall and not even a scratch. However if it gets dropped on a corner is the weakness in Gorilla glass, it won't stand up.
