When it works, over 3G it is not usable... Not sure who to blame ?!

This happened for me too: The new update to the already installed gtalk video function failed and the situation was resurrected at boot-time. Now, it shows as a failed update in the store, and the update won't reinstall. What is more, when I go to manage applications and check for updates in the settings (not in store), it keeps checking for updates and the circle keeps rotating indefinitely.

I haven't dared to install this yet, since I read it breaks the camera. How's it working after the update? I definitely need the camera more than I need video calling.

Used it over 3G, great picture and audio.

Just updated from Store and idle consumption raised little... Required two reboots, which did automatically... (edit. alarm cancelled - another reboot and everything is ok now)

btw. software notification still not working automatically for store applications?

I have the same problem, and I think it found the issue - when you installed the gtalk update, it locked the package database, and rebooted without unlocking it.

Code:

rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
as root solved it for me.

EDIT:

This might be a related issue.

I'm using the latest Gtalk no issue after installation here but the thing is while doing video chat n9 is not sending video to other recipient however, n9 shows both myself and the recipient in the chat window. The other end only sees my avatar. I'm testing with Mac computer with front video camera. However, when I tried with Vista without the front video camera n9 was sending the video fine. Anyone with similar issue??

Re: gtalk video call arrived to nokia store

I updated it without reading the forums and reviews, since it automatically appeared in my N9's software update. Downloaded it, rebooted, got that weird red text about "Rescuing update blah blah blah", logged back in with GTalk working fine. Did a video call with a friend of mine. I was using my N9, he was using Gmail. Pretty awesome. However, I noticed the red exclamation mark beside the Gtalk entry in Manage Applications. It says the update failed, etc, despite it operating as expected through GTalk. I guess we all have different experiences with the update, and I'm thankful mine didn't totally F-up my phone. Also noticed that when I went to the app store, it indicates that I don't have Gtalk installed. Maybe there was a corrupted registry entry or something, but I can say right now that it is working as expected. I don't want to uninstall/reinstall it now, as it my screw something up. I am just going to wait for an update to the update. :( So if you still have the first version, don't update just yet.

Re: gtalk video call arrived to nokia store

Where do we give feedback to the developers? For some reason I can get it to work on PC devices, but Gtalk doesn't like to play nice with iOS devices. People on the other side can hear me, but not see me. This has been tested with 10 different iOS devices now.

I tested it today and absolutely no voice transmission what so ever, I cant hear and they cant hear either.

Re: gtalk video call arrived to nokia store

I installed the first version. Then the update, but it failed. I then uninstalled and then installed the latest version from Store again. Works fine.

I had the same problem (refresh the circle in the top right corner keeps rotating indefinitely), and deleted the mentioned lock file, nothing happened, but after I moved the filemanager.list file, and suddenly it works perfectly again. This list file is needed for something?

Thanks.

Re: gtalk video call arrived to nokia store

So I was able to fix my problem with Gtalk with an uninstall from the phone, despite it still being there after a reboot. However, the Store did not indicate it was installed on my phone, so I'm guessing it was a registry issue or something. I downloaded it, rebooted without the red lines of text during start up, and now it's registered properly in the Manage Applications menu, and it's working flawlessly. :)

Did it work for you with any desktop client (besides Google talk browser plugin)? I have problems with Pidgin to do something like that.

Here's how it works, they have to be a Gtalk contact and then when they are available you'll have the video call option appear below their Gtalk in the contacts page.

i checked for that already. Yes they have chat they are online. It only gives me the option to message them.

One thing to make clear is that it's not the stand alone Google Talk application. It's the chat inside gmail when you're logged in that can handle video calls. The person you're calling should also be logged into his or her gmail account. Vtok for iphone etc can also be visible in the gmail chat, but that won't work. For now it's only pure gmail chat that can do the magic.

If you can't call them, ask them to make a video call you to you first and see what happens.

I've just got my N9, and been trying to install gtalk to no avail. The store option fails. Doing it manually through a terminal I am getting something about call-ui and package-manager not being the right versions (call ui > 4.2011.10.21+0 and I have 3.2011.09.12, package-amanger > 1.2.9 but I have 1.1.4) however trying to manually update these (apt-get install) even after a apt-get update is not working either. Any ideas?

Gtalk Video Call stopped working when I OTA update to PR 1.3. Solved by uninstalling, then reinstalling Gtalk video call.

Device will automatically reboot with each uninstall and install.

Same here, but uninstalling and installing it didn't help, it now doesnt show the option to make video calls like before. So still no N9 video calls for me.. Hope someone would have a solution for this.

UP! on this.

This is seriously one of the only things I am missing on N9. Unfortunately it is one of the most important ones (for me) Is gtalk video calls working for everyone else since there are no comments on this?

My Video Call button in Contacts is also gone. Strange enough, in my girlfriend's N9, which is also updated to PR1.3, the button is still there, and she even didn't reinstall the GTalk video plugin.

Despite having no video call button available in my N9, video calling itself works. When my girlfriend calls me via Gtalk video, it works as expected.

Re: gtalk video call arrived to nokia store

updated to pr1.3 here, didn't reinstall gtalk video plugin. Just tried to call and it looked like it was working on my end, but it disconnected for my friend. She then tried to call me and I saw a message saying it's not available for my phone =(

EDIT: tried the uninstall+reboot and install +reboot.. still not available.

what my friend sees:
audio/video chat is currently unavailable.
