Re: Nokia Lumia 900 or the N9? What would you choose?

As much as I hate to say it, but WP7.5>Harmattan.

And that's NOKIA's fault, since MeeGo>>>WP.
Also hardware-wise, L-900 > N9.

So no [real] contest that L900>N9.....but I chose "I don't like any of them" because its the most accurate answer.

I'm beginning to like Android more-and-more, I believe 2.34+ > WP7.5 as long as the device is easily rootable, has unlocked bootloader and custom roms. So without the "product value" I would choose the SGS or EPIC 4G over the L-900 easily. The fact that it has the latest Android 4.0.4 ICS and a AOKP port is just extra incentive.

And that's a 1.5year old device!
Now we've got offerings like Captivate Glide, RAZR/Droid4, One S/X, LG 4X HD, Gnex and NOTE....and even better ones like NOTE2 coming shortly.

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 or the N9? What would you choose?

Just got my N9 and to compare it to the Lumia 900, the N9 has better hardware (construction). Software wise, WP7 contacts and social integration are far superior to Meego, but I feel that if Nokia actually put some effort into Meego then it would have also been good. Both OSes have their quirks and limitations compared to other OSes but it isn't so bad. I'm waiting for WP8 for a fuller OS paired with Nokia's superior hardware before I'll judge if the Lumia line will be better than Meego.

Oh yea, the decision for Nokia to forego the stupid USB latch on the 900 was a smart move. The latch on the N9 seems so flimsy and not durable at all.

All in all, if you are not a heavy app user, I don't think you can go wrong with either devices.

The latch is ok, no problems there after 8 months. Wil get my Lumia 800 tomorrow. Then I have both :D

Lumia 800 has the same latch problem. Get Lumia 900

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 or the N9? What would you choose?

I probably got the oldest N9 here. The latch is OK!!! If you want to, there is no problem breaking it, but I meam, there is no problem breaking your screen with a hammer either - if you want to

Totally agree!

Holy crap, I just read the gsmarena reviews on both and, in addition to the N9 being superior in most categories, just learned that it has 10 hours additional battery life over the Lumia 900. Only 29 hours in light use vs. 39 for the N9. Since 39 hrs is just basically enough to get through a busy work day Lumia 900 users would have to drag an extra battery around ;)

One store in Sweden has just started to sell N9 for 1592 kr (no vat), that is about $220, has Nokia dropped the price?
It is a fantastic price

It is selling, more than lumia 800 but could it be that Nokia wants to sell a lot of phones?

Not surprising considering its OS was killed on launch

But on that note Lumiaman, how about the 2 price drops in a month for the Lumia 900? THAT mustn't be selling either ;)

It doesn't seem to be a general price drop, just a company that is celebrating having temporary price cuts

The problem is that the built-in browser doesn't support plugins (like Flash), and it's closed source - so hacking in Flash support probably isn't an option, INCEPTION notwithstanding. :(

Luckily there's Snowshoe and Oleg's (Romaxa) efforts* for more native/extensible browsers :)

*but his is even less advanced than snowshoe last time I checked

Nah it's just not selling that much any more, it hasn't been selling very well for ages now.
Despite what some delusional people are saying....
By the end of Q4 it'll definitely no longer be actively distributed, probably sooner.
There will still be stock dreggs, but no more active distribution...
Ofc selling way worse has little to do with with it being a much poorer device, far from it.
The Harmattan team's done a pretty remarkable job delivering what they have.
Esp. since they're now downsized almost 100% since Feb 11` instead of increasing slightly.
And esp. since there's no follow-up devices nor aggressive program to expand the Qt ecosystem in the past 15mth+
It's widely agreed that Maemo6 is more functional than WP7.5* (fluidity/stability not so much)
So one can only imagine what may have been with far more conviction from the top.

*See the countless articles at MNB. Ofc that doesn't mean it's a better device.
Built-in functionality/utility isn't as important as other things for many users.

Dont think so. If it was selling that well, the value would hold up.
