It will, I was just imagining a situation when someone would push to autobuilder a package depending on this lib now and someone would install it before whichever fix to this situation is applied. I've written to maintainers of packages depending on this lib to inform them about this issue, so we should avoid dramas;)

Man, you're having really hard time with your N900 lately... my guess would be: download older version of deb, unpack, manually copy files to your n900's rootfs (does RescueOS allow that?) and eventually run some post-init scripts (maybe you will need to modify them to use different paths, as I guess RescueOS mounts maemo partitions under different paths).

Maybe too much drama, but I think we have first serious victim of this new serial-killer package.

Edit: J4ZZ, how did this package got installed on your system? Was it pulled as a depenendancy of other package? Do you remember maybe which package was it?

Oh, and sorry for double posts.

I uploaded the fixing package about an hour ago, it should be there, but somehow it gets installed...
I'll contact qgil now, hope he'll remove this problem as soon as possible.

He's not the right guy to contact. try pinging x-fade instead.

is he somehow responsible for the repos (or has direct contact with someone who is)? if so, that's really valuable information for future reference.

Yeah, proud victim of libXau ;)
apt-get upgrade gave it to me, but
I'm quite sure that I reverted back to the old version, before rebooting as if I had a bad feeling about a file that was named meego*.

I sadly could'nt fix it manually, but my 4 week old backup did.

So the IroN900 is up and running again... ;)

wouldn't it be easier to just run:
Code:

apt-get install libxau6=1:1.0.3-2osso1.1
for downgrading?

Nope, this isn't in extras-* afaik
I asked xfade to remove the bad pkg about 1p.m., let's hope this'll be fixed soon.

Who made this update and what's it for?

A package from extras-development caused problems?

Good to see extras-delopment is working as it should.

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

Was anything done about this? just updated packages again and got same infinite crash loop.

Should this package be held back?

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

It seems to me there was a second update, which implied to me it was changed or fixed. I never had the original problem, so I didn't notice any difference. (I run apt-get update and upgrade at least daily and have forever)

impeham 2012-05-04 10:10

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

well i could see the package name was something like *meego*maemo* while installing, however after this update the infinite crash loop still happens.

in the meantime i'm preventing this package from installing using:

dpkg --set-selections << EOF
libxau6 hold
EOF

until this will be solved.

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

I asked xfade to remove this package but no reply. my version still present in devel.
Is there anyone else I can contact?

J4ZZ 2012-05-05 00:14

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

Code:

nano /etc/apt/preferences
and then adding:
Code:

Package: libxau6
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 1001

Strg+O
Strg+X

works fine also :)

Cheers,

J4ZZ

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

Do not ping, IRC, or whatever <> X-Fade - the only proper way is filling bugs. This way, everything is in place and no one can say after 7 months "I don't remember that anyone tried to contact me about it". SD69 could tell You nice stories about that, if You buy him one.

BTW, it turned out, that buildme detected package conflict, but instead of rejecting it, package still landed in repos. I filled bug few days ago:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12605

Can we not upload to package content from Libxau6 1.0.3-2osso1.1
under a different name?

Maybe under libxau6 1.0.6-2-1.0.3-2osso1.1

Take out the battery, wait some seconds/a minute and try to boot your N900. Try/Do it till your N900 is booting Maemo. If it booted successful do this:

1.Download the old package and put in into MyDocs

http://maemo.org/packages/view/libxau6/ new package
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in....0.3-2osso1.1/ old package

2. Open x-terminal and install the package as root (with dpkg -i filename)

If you could get access to rootfs you can change the library file

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

I did also had reboot loops after this update after removing bootmenu and rescueboot it stops and starts again every time i reboot or change the kernel settings and overlock the device by using cpufreq.

i was facing the same problem as you .. and i messed up my phone today ..and now today i flashed combined image ..i dont know how to change the library file .. maybe try removing libau6 ?? the software which is held dependent on it u can try removing tht software and might get a success?

J4ZZ 2012-05-05 20:38

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

If you've flashed combined Image the original libxau6 file is restored and your phone should be fine. So just pin the package after like I described or disable extras devel repository when upgrading.

out of curiosity, can anybody lacklist the libxau6,the file which is creating problems for us and others? ?

Maybe under libxau6 1.0.6-2-1.0.3-2osso1.1

This will still confuse dpkg :(

Hey, hey, hey! Which kernel are you using?
I've got a concept why some people have reboot loops: libxau6 1.0.6 is compatible with kernel power but not with the stock kernel

Re: DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST libxau6 PACKAGE!!!

Even if it doesn't cause reboot loops on KP, it != is compatible. It may just *not work*, without causing catastrophic failure.
