PS: alright, as you see I like to know about public transport in cities ;) Please continue with the testing and try to find out why so many users say they could find about their cities when it seems to be there (how complete and accurate I don't know). |
Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
no timetables AND no transport information whatsoever.
PS: test what exactly? |
Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
maybe because I just got a big fat message stating we haven't got any info anoit Athens right now, please check back later just after launching the app?
If I search subsequently for a route it seems to work ok no buses though... And that's the difficult part. Metro and tram stations are easily memorized |

With buses information it could be really useful. One problem I find is that the app does not show where the stations are. You have to ask someone having a map and GPS in your hand. |

http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia...t-for-nokia-n9 There is simple routing info. for a much larger sub-set of cities, perhaps that's what's confusing you. *especially ones where the N9/S^3 is generally more prevalent. |

This means, you'll be able to find routes on these lines on the app. Please see attached. Of course, if the map contains more transport services, like bus, ferries then these will be available as well. The routes returned are not ideal or the most optimal, since the app can only work on the data it gets from maps, rather than using the data from the transit agency. Please try again, and can you give us the details of the places you tried on the app? |

As you can see, there is tram line n°27 that directly connects the two. If you also try to search, let's say, from Viale Corsica, Milan, to Piazza del Duomo, Milan (which is where you'd get walking along the rails of line 27 for some 10 minutes from Via Marco Bruto) you should also get some more option (not as direct as taking the 27, but for example bus line 73 from Viale Corsica to Piazza San Babila, and then walk for less than 5 minutes to Piazza del Duomo is a viable option). The same can be said when planning a route from Via Mac Mahon, Milan to Piazzale Piola, Milan. Nokia Transport app says I have to walk like forever, this is what it should tell me. My hypotesis is that the app only knows about subway lines, which is clearly insufficient for Milan: we only have 3 of them, and they hardly cover half of the city. I should also add that in the case of the aforementioned route from Mac Mahon to Piola, the second half of the route is made by subway line 2, but the app doesn't even tell me "Walk from Via Mac Mahon to Lanza, then take subway line 2 from Lanza to Piola" which is crazy, but better than walking all along. |
Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
Mmm... the odd thing is that planning the aforementioned route (from Via Mac Mahon, 20155 Milano, Italia to Piazzale Gabrio Piola, 20131 Milano, Italia on Nokia Maps website gives the correct results...
EDIT: Ahahahahah! This is funny too... guess who's providing map data to Milan Public Transport company for the route planning app on their website! http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/1...aziendatra.png |
Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
Today I had the chance to try the same routes I was talking about in mt previous posts on my mother's symbian phone, and they worked just like on Nokia Maps website. So this is an Harmattan-exclusive problem. :(

Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
I had to stop using this app for Philadelphia. The timetables were wrong and it was giving me connections that simply did not exist. I don't know if this is Nokia's fault or SEPTA's. Thankfully GApp is more stable now so I can just use Google transit directions, but still..
On a side note, I really don't see why Nokia can't just parse the GTFS data of these transit agencies. |

Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
So I tried it again tonight, and while it had the correct times, the routing was all wrong. It wanted me to take a route that would add 30 minutes to my journey. I don't think it realizes that that you can walk from the Fern Rock train station to the bus terminal with ease (its like maybe 500 feet) so it instead opts to have you stay on the train for a longer transfer.
If you wanna try it yourself, the route I took was Ambler train station to Bustleton and, let's say Haldeman. The time was 9:00 PM. If you try it in google Maps you'll see it transfer from Fern Rock TC to route 70. Nokia public transit doesn't see that. EDIT: Just checked Nokia's desktop maps site, and it confirmed my suspicion: http://nok.it/PqMTv ... FYI, you can NOT go East from the Fern Rock train station, you can ONLY go west onto Nedro Ave. I don't know if this is a public transit issue or a general mapping issue (and thus probably not related to the NPT team), but I figured I'd pass it along. |

Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
The N9's GPS is UNBELIEVABLY frustrating, sometimes it takes around 10 minutes for a lock, others, 1 minute, you never know how long. This is killing the N9 and any geo apps. So disappointing.

Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
So, out of nowhere, this app stopped working for me. It no longer loads routes. Is it just me? If this is intentional, the N9 will certainly be the last Nokia product I ever bought..
edit. it's not just me So much for support until at least 2015 as was promised.. |
Re: Nokia Transport now available for N9
"Transport nearby" dont work for me anymore in Berlin-Brandenburg. I get for all stops "No departures within 1 hr". Anyone can confirm this?
