what about audio/video call? afaik pidgin support it via XMPP, so no yahoo and msn but jabber and gtalk should work?

You can install the plugin and try to configure it, on my device it finds enormously large list of audio devices (but most of them don't have names) and two video devices (front and rear camera), but I don't know how can I test it further - there's only audio test implemented afaik... Is making videocall the only option to test if this works?

Re: [Announce] Updated Pidgin (2.10.6) & Purple Plugin Pack

im wandering also what is the correct config in Tools-> Voice/Video Settings-> input and output settings.

audio:
Output: Plugin: pulseaudio device:default ?

Input: Plugin: pulseaudio device:default ?

video:

Output: Plugin: X Window system device:default ?

Input: Plugin:Video4Linux2 device: omap3/vs6555 ??

"microphone test" works!

Audio - you should leave it as is (and you checked it yourself - it works ;) )
Video - Output: no idea; Input: omap3 is rear camera (the 5mpix one), vs6555 is front camera (ST Microelectronics VS6555 with VGA resolution to be more specific), so you probably want to use vs6555.

Re: [Announce] Updated Pidgin (2.10.6) & Purple Plugin Pack

tried many different configs with N900 but no luck

the videocall window appear, the red led of the front camera is on for a second and then it close and appear a message in the conversation window:

error with your webcam
conference error
the call has been terminated

the audio call also stays on calling, u can adjust volume, but no sounds and usually crash when the other answer the call

no usefull messages from terminal
just "floating point exception" when it crash

Just to know , i tried also Pidgin on Ubuntu, and audio/video call work if the other person is connected via Gmail website. (i made a Gtalk test) Also Empathy is working with videocall on gtalk.

With the default IM client on N900 (telepathy) videocall start fine if you are the caller, they can see you but you cannot see them (sometime is green screen). if you receive the videocall, when you answer you dont see their video, and the caller never know that you answered.

all this tests are made from N900 to PC with Gtalk from website

i dont know from N900 to other phone, for example Android with Gtalk

but from pidgin or empathy on ubuntu is not possible to videocall people with gtalk in Android...

I saw Pidgin 2.10.7+nix-1 update in the repos few days ago. Who uploaded it, was it you, gidzzz?:) Did anyone test it, any bugs, safe to install?

I thought ports were suppose to have "maemo" in the package name.
I have installed it but not played with it much, seems to work on a quick check.

Yep, that was me. Nothing out of ordinary, just a bunch of security fixes, should work at least as good as 2.10.6.

I guess you're right. I thought about changing it when uploading 2.10.7, but I'm so busy lately that I couldn't even find the time to contemplate it.

Thanx for keeping it upstream:)

would be cool to have pidgin-encryption plugin on Fremantle and Diablo.

Pidgin 2.10.9 is in the repository.

Gadu-Gadu buddy list synchronization was removed upstream in 2.10.8 because of being broken, but in my experience it still works (no idea if exactly the way it should, but certainly it is better than nothing), so I have reverted that change.

Looks like it needs a newer GTK+ version than Maemo has, but after removing a few probably not very important lines it appears to load fine. Unzip the attached file and place it in "/home/user/.purple/plugins/". If it really works, I can create a package for Fremantle. I do not know if it is compatible with Diablo.

Edit: by the way, does anyone knows why edited thread title (with "2.10.9" instead of "2.10.7") can be saved, but not displayed in public?

Yay and with a fixed maemo package name too.

I believe thread title editing expires after a period of time.
I would always recommend to leave version numbers out of titles and link to a wiki page or changelog instead.

Thread title editing was disabled, I believe, to ease the process of moving maemo.org to a new server. If you want to change the title, just contact the admin.

Thanks for this update by the way, although, I don't use Pidgin any more.

Re: [Announce] Updated Pidgin (2.10.7) & Purple Plugin Pack

Anybody here kind enough to patch this revision to the 2.10.9? :)

I keep my N900 solely for pidgin, and now because of this issue here, my yahoo messenger has been offline for the past few months
and since I don't see 2.10.10 to be released soon, it would be great if we can have at least this issue resolved in the maemo version

Thanks in advance for anyone who willing to do that ;)

I can't tell for sure as I already forget how to compile for maemo :p
But it seems that man is missing and it seems you might be able to get it by apt-get install man-db-n900 or bash3/bash4
See here for detail: http://wiki.maemo.org/Terminal

Re: [Announce] Updated Pidgin (2.10.7) & Purple Plugin Pack

btw even if i use

Code:

./configure '--disable-missing-dependencies' '--prefix=/usr' '--with-python=/usr/bin/python2.5' '--host=arm-linux-gnueabi' '--build=arm-linux-gnueabi' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--mandir=${prefix}/share/man' '--infodir=${prefix}/share/info' '--disable-consoleui' '--disable-doxygen' '--disable-perl' '--enable-maemo-launcher' '--enable-gnutls=yes' '--enable-nss=yes' 'build_alias=arm-linux-gnueabi' 'host_alias=arm-linux-gnueabi' 'CFLAGS=-Wall -g -O2' 'LDFLAGS=' 'CPPFLAGS=' 'CXXFLAGS=-g -O2' 'FFLAGS=-g -O2'
i can read in configure results the message:

SSL Library/Libraries......... : None. MSN, Yahoo!, Novell Groupwise and Google Talk will not work without GnuTLS or NSS. OpenSSL is NOT usable!

why?

figaro 2014-08-26 16:41

Re: [Announce] Updated Pidgin (2.10.7) & Purple Plugin Pack

Hmmm, no idea
The output mentioned that "install-sh: No such file or directory", and I only guess that you can use one available in the net (or maybe by installing x11-utils package? but I don't think so). Not sure though

As for the second one, completely no idea
Thanks a lot though for trying :)

That could be it

From https://pidgin.im/pipermail/support/...il/014558.html and http://tehpost.blogspot.kr/2008/03/s...msn-error.html, I think you can either choose to install libgnutls26 or both libnspr4-dev and libnss3-dev

Code:

        cp -a debian/tmp/usr/share/locale debian/pidgin-l10n//usr/share/
dh_install: usr/lib/purple-2/ssl-gnutls.so exists in debian/tmp but is not installed to anywhere
dh_install: usr/lib/purple-2/ssl-nss.so exists in debian/tmp but is not installed to anywhere
dh_install: missing files, aborting
make: *** [binary-arch] Error 255
dpkg-buildpackage: error: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit status 2

is it something i can fix passing the file path in configure?

Again, no idea. Sorry

I'm thinking to redownload Scratchbox myself and see if I can do something about it. But then again, maybe not

Thanks again for keep trying :)

Re: [Announce] Updated Pidgin (2.10.7) & Purple Plugin Pack

gianko, please make sure that you know what you are doing before replacing someone else's package in the repositories. The source package that you have uploaded contains 40 MB of unnecessary files, that might be a hint to why it failed at the autobuilder (I guess they are leftovers from your local compilation).

Building Pidgin should be pretty straightforward, this works for me (dependencies already installed, clean folder):
Code:

apt-get source pidgin
cd pidgin-2.10.9
dpkg-buildpackage -b

I have uploaded Pidgin 2.10.9-0maemo2. It's been built successfully and is ready for download.
  • Changed source format to 3.0 (quilt) -- thanks to that packaging new versions from upstream and managing patches should be a bliss.
  • Added patch to fix Yahoo login with GnuTLS -- as requested by figaro.

Thanks, gidzzz :) No offence to gianko, but I'm happy that someone with packaging skills finally took care of this :) Installing in a moment, will report back if I find any issues (if you won't find any more posts by me in next few hours it means everything is fine).

Sweet. It works

Thanks gidzzz and apologize for newbie behaviour :o

not offended at all as i know im a newbie just reading the wiki pages and willing to learn, next time i will follow your building procedure ;)

ps: i dont even noticed you uploaded again version 2 so i sent a maemo3 package wich failed to build again, but i guess is harmless as i will stop pushing packages now that the package is correctly updated with the patch :)

This is the first time I hear of it. Make sure that you have http://maemo.org/packages/view/pidgin-maemo-docklet/ installed, as this is the package which provides status menu integration.
