Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
It's ok. Pushing your app to the Store incentivated by this activity but not waiting for a formal acceptance does show a trust in your project(s).
Today it was a busy day and I didn't have time to review any proposals. I'm hoping to be up to date by the end of tomorrow. |

Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
I'm part the creator of the TFL (Transport for London) app, my app is on the Ovi store here:
http://store.ovi.com/content/262507 Free version is pending approval in Ovi store. There is also likely to be Symbian app as well. It may not be most popular app in the world, but the audience is only people living in London and owing Nokia N9's - which is small anyway! But it is a useful app. On the cards for me is a N9 eBay app and possibly others. I've been a member on this forum for quite some time, back when there was no such thing as the N900 or N9. In the good old days of the N770, N800 and N810, back when this forum was still called internet tablet talk. I would love a N950 - it would allow me to work with the command line SO much better! EDIT: Only 100 devices - seems a bit stingy on Nokia's part? |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
8 entries accepted. None declined yet but let's wait to see new entries. We have 10 devices allocated so far.

I've two questions though 1. From where do I send the mail ? 2. Since my app is accepted, I need to get it published to receive the device? Or I could wait till I get the device so I cud do some beta testing myself? Regards, Bibek |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
What do you mean 'from where'? Just send an email with your developer.nokia.com userid to quim.gil nokia.com.
You can open a thread here and ask for testers. The offer is for a device once your app is published in the store. Nothing personal, just a way to avoid misunderstandings and uncomfortable situations. |

Thanks for clarification, I'll start the beta testing and get the apps published as soon as possible. Cheers for providing the great opportunity. My thanks to qgil and the community. :D |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
I have a question with respect to being eligible for this program.
I am the creator of MeePasswords, which up to now is only available via apps.formeego.org. As I already have a loan N950 and won an N9 with MeePasswords in last years coding competition I do not want to participate in this program myself. In the meantime another developer (conny) contributed significant effort to MeePasswords as well. My question is: is it ok if we as developer team participate in this program? Of course there can be only one price for an app. And we agreed upon that conny will receive it in case our app gets accepted in this program and is chosen as winning app. Because conny would receive the device he would also be the one who sends his information to qgil directly. I hope I made the question clear. Please ask if you have questions or comment what you think about this. I want to have this discussion as transparent as possible in order to avoid any disagreement. Our main motivation for finally pushing MeePasswords to Nokia store and possibly participating in this program is to show that this community is still very much alive and keeps contributing apps. So far I didn't upload MeePasswords to Nokia store due to some legal requirements. I took this program as motivation to re-check these requirements and conny also helped me a lot by pointing me into the right direction to get these legal issues solved. PS: I do not have much time right now. I will explain the legal issues and show how I was able to solve these later on in another thread. Edit: We would apply for an N9. |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
It seems to me that you are eligible. Just put your name on the list in the wiki. If you are not you will be rejected, if you are you will have more chances as in this activity it is first-come first-served.
|
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Wonko, your explanations sound fair.
|
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Thanks, I submitted MeePasswords via the Wiki page.
I hope everything is correct and in order. I tried to provide all relevant information in an easily accessible fashion. I also submitted MeePasswords and Harmattan and Fremantle versions to Nokia Store QA review today. If anything is unclear please just drop a short note or question here. PS: For me I consider this already very successful as I could finally figure out how to deal with those legal requirements that kept me from publishing MeePasswords to Nokia store for so long. :) Edit: I wrote about my experiences with respect to the legal stuff here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...72#post1216872 |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
That's the aim of this activity, to give an incentive to community developers to cover that last mile.

Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
@qgil - Porting existing app from Android to N9 goes here or "Coding Competition"?
It will need a new GUI (in QML) and some tweeks in backend. |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Here we focus on existing apps that for some reasons haven't made it to the Nokia Store yes. If you are starting development now, then Coding Competition looks more suitable.
|
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Coding competition thread still hasn't laid rules if they will accept ports of existing apps, there has been some suggestions that ports are not accepted and/or only accepted in the possible updates category. Or whether they only accept entries that have started the coding only after the competiton starts.
As I also have this another thingie in my private repo, where I have ported the latest vpnc client as vpnc_0.5.3+rev517_armel.deb, which works nicely on my N9 and can connect to my work VPN servers. And which is mentioned in the currently missing apps page: http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...in_Nokia_Store - Currently cannot submit to Ovi QA, since I cannot give QA my work logins as test username/password, and I don't happen to have cisco VPN routers in my home to setup test VPN logins... Most likely could try apps4meego, but I've been just lazy&(busy). - And is missing an UI as I just use it from terminal, I can prolly kludge away QML ui (or port N900 vpngui) quite easily. If coding competition don't accept ports then most likely I just keep enjoying the client myself. But hopefully competition will clarify on rules at some point. |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
I'm not following the Coding Competition planning discussion, sorry. I guess one thing is to do a "regular" Linux port of some basic utility and another a port of an Android app that basically means a rewrite?
Anyway, since the number of submissions at http://wiki.maemo.org/Summer'12_Devi...or_Nokia_Store is not very high (I wonder if the affected developers are aware?) and considering that the ultimate goal of this activity is more apps in the Nokia Store for N9 users, maybe the case of existing apps for Android ported over here could also apply? I'm open to opinions. kdrozd, it would help to know what app are you referring to. Do you have it published at Google Play? |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
I am happy to announce that mobilecrunch is now published @ Store. (http://store.nokia.com/content/283756)

Yes indeed. In general I think the Nokia Store experience from both user and developer point of view is very good. Judging from complaints I read around the net about the early days they surely have come a long way.

Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
I did submit my version in the same day, lets see if there is variations in the review times...

Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Hi, I have a few question for this program:
1 - after submit the app at the wiki page, we need to wait for the app to approve then only submit to Nokia Store QA or just submit immeadiately? 2 - after the app is published at Nokia Store, how do we informing you? 3 - any other requirement to be eligible to participate in this program? Because it looks like too easy, just submit the app to Store? I currently has a app that is developed for Symbian. Because of this program so I decided to port to MeeGo (now almost done). Can I participate? Thanks. Regards, Dickson |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
If you have an app ready for submission to the Nokia Store the best you can do is to add it to the wiki and submit it - accepted or not.
When your app is published you can let us know here, as qwazix just did. No more requirements from your side, really. It is simple on purpose, so you can put your time in publishing a good app. The filtering comes from usefulness, popularity, amount of alternatives... |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
17 submissions accepted so far.
|
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Status update: QA review failed after 7 days, single instance test failed. Imho its a really slow QA, since testing that if application starts 2 instances simultaneously, could be done in automated matti testing in like 10 minutes.
Well anyways I added -s to invoker parameter and resubmitted, lets see what happens after next 7 days... PS. well on positive side, I had done many other improvements on the last 7 days, so I was able to include them in this resubmission. |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Okay now also FotoShareN9 is pushed to Nokia Store QA - I hope/think it will go through in the first try! Maybe it takes not toooo long.
Thanks for your attention. ;) AlphaX2 |

If you are on a pc reload the page. I have this problem since yesterday. All apps show "not available" on the pc version of ovi when coming from outside link until you hit reload.

'''[http://store.ovi.com/yourapp PUBLISHED]''' |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Hello qgil.
Got two questions: 1. When will shipments start? After the 25 slots are filled and respective apps published in store? 2. Even if app is published, could we delay receiving the device for some weeks ? And could we change shipping address later? Regards, Bibek |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Shipments will go first for those publishing first.
We can delay the shipment for you, yes. |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Is this just for free apps or is it ok to put only paid version to Nokia store?
BTW; My app is a simple Google Maps -client called "VeskuMaps". Debian package is currently available here: https://projects.developer.nokia.com/veskumaps And some user feedback here: http://my-meego.com/software/applica...uto=1235&faq=4 |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Hello,
thank you for accepting my app / project. I submitted an updated version of StandByMee-Chess to Nokia's QA review today. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73783334/St...creenshot4.png Changelog version 0.5.5:
Is anyone aware of the fact that user logins for www.developer.nokia.com are case sensitive? |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
One submission accepted, and we have 19 so far.

Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Hello qgil,
Since everything went quite right and fast, I'd like to reset my WAITING status. Here's the scenario: - If I could receive the device approx. by the end of this month, It would be most convenient for me. And I'd like to have it sent asap. - If there's a chance that shipment will be delayed and it'd reach me well beyond this month, then I'd request to keep the shipment waiting for some time more Thanks for the quick response, Bibek |
Re: 2012 Device Program: New Apps for Nokia Store
Okay today I got an e-mail that told me that FotoShareN9 failed at QA, it is not working for them. I don't know why and hope it will be cleared as soon as possible.
It's like a mystery - for everybody it works but not for the people at QA... Maybe, it's a problem with PR1.1 which was used for testing? AlphaX2 |
