For those of us trying to make calls, the hangouts do not work, but you can still make "regular" video chat calls. Just start a chat and use the drop down box on the top right to start a video chat. That still works, it's just more hidden...
As an update to this issue, I eventually went ahead and wiped my phone and re-installed PR1.3 (generic version NDT). I then installed Gtalk (nothing else installed on the phone, no accounts configured - except nokia account to download from the store - I also tried with nokia account not configured and install using terminal), but still no luck. I used 2 different gmail accounts (one generic that I created in addition to mine) and it does not work for either. I also tried various ways of configuring the account on the phone (user name alone vs. user name @gmail.com). That did not help... In short, it is definitely not working on my phone, and I cannot figure out why. I really wonder if that has something to do with Google's servers. I am in the US, maybe there is something in my gmail account that is different. Where are you based - when it works and does not work? |

I have the same problem as described by others. I am in the US (Texas). I am attempting a call between my laptop and N9. The laptop is running google chrome. The N9 is running 1.3.
When initiating video call from the computer, it sends a message to the N9 with a hyperlink, but if you click it, then you get a device not supported message. Fail. Initiating a voicecall from the computer works, but there is no way to convert the call to a voicechat from either the n9 or the computer. Video chat = fail. Initiating the video chat from the N9 immediately causes the computer to produce an error message: “Sorry, this video chat with ... Failed because of a problem with our servers at . . . ” Fail. For those who claim that their chat works, please state your precise protocol, because it doesn't make sense to me that chrome is accepting some N9s and not others. I use the standard UA. This is the LAST unsupported device I will EVER purchase. |

yeah, it still works from PC to N9 and from N9 to N9. Just tested it.
for PC to N9.. Like GringoT mentioned.. If you click the usual video chat icon, it'll send a link for google hangout and that doesn't work. But if you wanna initiate a video call like earlier.. In the chat window on PC, there's a drop down next to the call icons called "more". Click that, then select "Start video chat". This is the way it still works on N9. works so far.. Till Google completely implements the hangout ****.. So start video calling! (N9 to PC video call doesn't work. Keeps diaconnecting.) |

google changed its video chat, there is "hangout" now and "video chat"
pr 1.3 works with an ics amaze i have. for pc to n9 you have to click "more" instead of the camera. camera icon starts a hangout. more--->videochat starts a video chat. |

To the lucky few for whom this Gtalk video works, could you post which firmware version you are using?
At this point, I am willing to reflash my phone again with a firmware version that works just to check... I am on the NDT firmware (which should be the generic) and have a variety of accounts set up on my phone (3 MFEs including one for gmail, hotmail and work account; yahoo on IMAP, google account - using the built in google functionality but w/o email, just for gtalk; picasa, youtube, SIP (google voice), skype). I reflashed the phone with PR1.3 and only turned on the google account - which never worked, so I doubt the accounts on the phone have much of an impact but they might... I also tried creating a new google account from a US computer, I tried creating a google account while in another country from a local computer - both failed... I am on Tmobile USA (not sure it makes any difference). Anyway, thanks for any insights. |

Guys, I got it working. Installed some packages and now I can call my pc from my N9.
I'm not sure what package was responsible, but I installed:
liboil and gstreamer-ffmpeg are available here Someone please try not installing all them together so we will know EDIT: completed the list of packages |

gstreamer appears to be the fix (or a combination of the above packages, since it started working only when I installed gstreamer, which I installed last, naturally). I can now place and receive calls, although I have now lost the video feed on the phone in both directions... rebooting now to see if that fixes it... Interesting find though.
PS: On a side note, what are all these packages? Did I just blindly install a bunch of malware on my phone? All that for Gtalk :)? EDIT/UPDATE: So now I have no video feed on the N9 when making video calls, but the calls work (at least on the other end they can see me... and I can both receive and initiate. Could it be that codecs are missing? It looks like gstreamer is a partial fix. I could never install lame because of missing dependency issues on libncurses (the installed version on the phone is 2008xxxx while the required version for lame is 20120313 apparently and the phone refused to update to this version). They shouldn't give you any dependencies issue as I tested to make sure the above is all you need when you wish to install... What you can do is extract all of them to a folder e.g. /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/GtalkVid/ Then as root in terminal do: Code:
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/GtalkVid/*.deb |

the warnings are fine... the installation won't be affected by them...
did you try a reboot? in mine my video isn't sent out although i can see my own video...must be some stupid gtalk bug...i can receive video fine though... |

yep, rebooted a few times. I also tried uninstalling Gtalk and reinstalling. Still no incoming video, but outgoing is all good... I guess that's it for me for tonight. Thanks for your help!

Let me share my experiences, after installing gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg_0.10.9-2maemo2_armel.deb the outgoing video started to work but incoming video stopped from working.
But when I did: dpkg -P gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg then both incoming and outgoing videos started to work fine, so my guess is that installing and then uninstalling ffmpeg package fixes some directory permissions, codec registrations or something, and afterwards everything starts to work. regards, Jonni Happy global vanilla 001 PR1.3 user with working in/out google video talk. |

I did what rainisto suggested still my video doesn't appear on another device...Incoming is fine...
To add, i've been having this issue since day 1 of the plugin being released but since I don't use it much I havent bothered with it... |

How do I re-appear on the contact card the option to call the person on video, because I can only call to chat message, but if the person I call for video works. Thank you. :) |

Working with me this video in both input and output devices. Tested in the Xoom from my wife. First installed package Gtalk. Restarted and operated only the input video. I uninstalled the package friend suggested and rebooted again, and now everything works, just can not call people on video.

oh and second thing that I noticed that video-call installer didn't have working aegis manifest, so I did following commands manually on the commandline:
devel-su /opt/bin/video-call-installer true chmod 777 /etc/call-ui chmod 777 /etc/call-ui/callUIVideoButton /usr/lib/package-manager/reboot.sh That enabled the video call button on the ui. :) |

after installing, i'm back at the way it used to work: in other words, i can initiate video calls and it works fine, but incoming video calls fail/end right away.
if it can be fixed that would be great but i'm thankful to peeps for figuring this out at all. |

Any news from anyone on this issue? I got a call from Nokia, and it was a little sad and funny at the same time. They are trying to help, but they obviously have never even seen the device... very sad, come to think of it.
