Isn't there a way for us to combine our efforts to port the newest Kernel over?

"patch -p1 < 0001-*.patch" would be what you're looking for. You'd obviously hit *.rej's for 3630 support (patches files named 34xx, as 3630 support is built on top of 34xx support) and wl-* (also mainlined by Nokia afaik)

The rest of the process would entail fixing all the .rej's and making sure it builds cleanly.

I receive a "Warning: Bad Kernel Format" while flashing. Afterwards, the device powers on, stays like that for about 30 seconds, and then powers off..

If I keep the USB plugged, it keeps rebooting. I did copy the modules and change the symlink as explained in the first post.

I was running PR 1.3 openmode before the flash

Someone should make an official thread on this. I was going to but i think someone with higher rank should do this!

Thanks

I've encountered stability and battery problems with the latest kernel-plus. I recommend you stay on the PR1.3 (open/non-open) kernel for now, and wait for the Updated Harmattan Kernel (very likely worked on by ex-Harmattan-team Nokians who definitely know what they're doing!)

I've actually flashed open mode with the thread Nokia & Aegis open-mode. This one seem to work (so far)

Thanks for the help though.

Sorry, what do you mean? You would like a kernel-plus with NAT? I personally don't have a use for it, but I'd be willing to build it for others if I have the source.

Well, the patches seem to be at http://www.mediafire.com/download/71...plus-r2.tar.gz

Since your iptables mod concerns only the rm581 config file it's no brainer to include that in the kernel-plus.

Re: [Announce] [12.09.05] kernel-plus 2.6.32.59 for Harmattan

compiled clean :D

Here's link to the tarfile for kernel+modules: http://www.swagman.org/juice/kernel-...9-plus_nat.tar
(md5sum = 1d666bfedd17cfef52c66543cc461138)

To install with ubiboot-02, just unpack the archive to your device:
"tar -xvf kernel-2.6.32.59-plus_nat.tar -C /"
and modify the appropriate lines of your ubiboot.conf file, something like:
G_HARMATTAN_5_LABEL="2.6.32.59 kernel+"
G_HARMATTAN_5_FILE="/boot/Harmattan/boot/zImage_2.6.32.59-plus_nat-20121301"
( and remember to update G_HARMATTAN_NUM=5 )

To install without ubiboot:
"tar -xvf kernel-2.6.32.59-plus_nat.tar -C /"
and copy the resulting kernel from "/boot/zImage_2.6.32.59-plus_nat-20121301" to your PC for flashing.

Re: [Announce] [12.09.05] kernel-plus 2.6.32.59 for Harmattan

juiceme, thanks. :)

btw: I repeat my question here whether it is needed to change the /lib/modules/current symlink to point to the new modules?
Afaik it was needed in fremantle, but only referenced in /sbin/preinit (solved by cssu or kp install), else it was referenced by $(uname -r).
Anyone knows about harmattan? And if not, why is it still present?
So maybe there is the need to have a one-liner in ubiboot to change that symlink on changing kernels?

juiceme 2013-08-21 12:50

Re: [Announce] [12.09.05] kernel-plus 2.6.32.59 for Harmattan

No need to do that. The kernel knows to load the correct modules by the name string (same as uname) and the 'current' symlink is used for nothing.

I really don't know why it is there, maybe just historical reasons...?

ohai, juiceme!

Thanks for posting a built kernel - wrecked my Harmattan sb2 toolchain and haven't really had time to work on it anymore.

FWIW, for those who need it, the .59-to-.60 and .60-to.61 patches still apply cleanly on top of the latest patched K+ sources ;)

Yes, I noticed "too late" as I had already compiled the kernel and transferred to my webiste that I forgot to apply the l2fix patch.

Bummer. But really I am running i t now on my device, it worked allright with ubiboot albeit booted some 30 seconds longer :D

I'll add the l2fixed kernel soon as I get to compile it.
The modules are OK, need no recompiling.

The original post says that this kernel supports AP mode.
mac80211 Master/AP mode

Has anybody verified this and gotten it to work with hostapd?

I have not tried it yet. I do remember however Hurrian mentioned it needs a different firmware file to make wl1271 go to AP mode.

Now that I had time to look it thru, the l2fix is already present in the 2.6.32.59 patches by Hurrian, so no need to recompile anything :D:D

you just sayin "it need extra 30secs to load this kernel" =D

I did, yes. That's because I assumed the fix was not present. That's what your exceptations make you feel it is like :o

I did not measure it, of course. I just assumed it was takiing longer to load...

Proposed features, guys ;)

As of 2.6.32, the wl12xx driver supports both AP and STA modes without changing the kernel driver.

The problem is that the AP mode firmware files for all wl12xx chips seem to be completely missing from the Internet for some reason.

This has been an issue since the N900 days.

...so that's what that bit of asm pushed by a Nokian did...

I can get different versions of wl1271-fw-ap.bin from both here and here.

The issue is that I cannot seem to get hostapd to load it for some reason. If others could try, that would be great.

Hey, Linaro?

Hurrian 2013-08-22 07:21

Re: [Announce] [12.13.01] kernel-plus 2.6.32.59 for Harmattan

The kernel builds properly when using Sabermod's Linaro GCC 4.8 cross-compile toolchain for ARM EABI.

It doesn't boot, though.

NON-Linaro information:

I've recently picked up a spare N9 (smashed screen, though) hwrev 1607, and K+ boots just as often as Harmattan on it.

On hwrev 1507, it just hangs at kexec. Finicky.

IIRC that Brazilian org. (name escapes me) had completely finished Harmattan support, but was never allowed to release it for reasons never answered/explained by them.

I'd say it is doable, if only the firmware blob that we have supports it. The chipset support is OK.
The difficulty might be on the same order of magnitude as WLAN AP mode support, baring the fact that I have not ever done any work with bluetooth drivers/stack.

It would be really desirable, as I'd love to get the low-energy BT support that is used in various gadgets working.

Yeah I'd sooo love that, later I'll try to find some contact info for the folks that were originally involved in implementing the BT4 support.
