Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

With each iteration of 1.6, UKMP plays the wrong songs.

Is there a way to keep the screen from timing out when my n800 is plugged in while using UKmp? It's a pain having to tap the screen when I have it running in the car for example.

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

actually the code is there already. You should be able to activate it yourself, but I'll try to add it to the next release (a light bulb might be a good icon for it).

About the wrong songs problem, I had hoped that was already fixed. It happens if one of the songs is not recognized properly.

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

I use the 'party mode' just about every time I use ukmp. And it never ceases to fail that I begin listening to a song before I decide to press the party mode button and start adding tracks. As soon as I add that first track the currently playing song gets cut off and starts the party mode playlist.

Would it be possible to have the currently playing song automatically added to the party mode when the 'party mode' button is pressed? Or maybe have the playlist begin once the current song ends?

Very true about the party mode. I've been hating that bug myself many times over. I'll definitely fix that to the next release.

You need to update your python to the latest version.

Hey, if you ever need help with anything don't hesitate to ask. I don't know anything about programming but I'm fairly decent with graphics (I know.. . who isn't). Not much to offer, but I wanted to throw it out there.

pcm3 error is described in this bug:
https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...d=164&atid=681

There is also a fix for your problem on that page.

There is a little discussion on the subject here:

I also get the error that my .m4a files aren't able to be sufficiently identified. Of the two spots in the python code where it can return that error for .m4a files, it returns the second one, if that helps. I'm running the latest 2007he on a 770. PM if you have any specific things you'd like me to try/check.

And good to hear that you like it even though it seems to have some annoyances for you. What you are describing sounds like there is some big problem with error handling in case id3 tags aren't properly interpreted. Seems like that in that case some parts of the database are updated and the id numberings are messed. I'll have a look at that. Thanks for clearing what is causing the bug. I think it's reproducable if you could verify that that single mp3 is causing the problem. You could then send me the mp and I could debug it to extinction.

I'm having the same issue where I click on one song and it plays another. This happens for almost all of my songs. A lot of my mp3 library is live music downloaded from archive.org, and I manually typed in the id3 tags for them. I like the UKMP interface the best amongst the media players, but I don't use it for this reason. I don't think I could pinpoint it to just one id3 tag causing all the problems. I hope ver 1.7 addresses this issue.

Is there an ID3 tag editor/viewer for the n800? Or I can check em on my PC...

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

Trying out UKMP, having some issues.
When I load the app it gets to "Reading music information" and then bombs out after a few seconds with no error at all.
I ran MediaCenter from the Xterm and I get:
(including the last couple tracks for reference)
Code:

Trying id3reader/media/mmc1/music/Biohazard - Down for Life.mp3

For reference, the music folder on my sd card is just a flat collection of mp3s:
not subdivided by artist/album/genre, no cover.jpg files, etc.
Neither Canola nor Kagu have an issue with the mp3s, so if it is a borked id3 tag, it doesn't look essential.

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

heh!

Nice find:
if len(thumbFile)>1 and as.path.exists(thumbFile):

as.path ;)

os.path sounds more like the correct one. I had a look at my latest version (1.7 alpha 3) and it's fixed in there.

If I have any time in the weekend, I'll do a fix round on the 1.7 and launch it to the general public and not just in the garage.

Hey, if anyone is interested in doing some alpha testing, ukmp 1.7 alpha 7 is available in garage:

https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...1.70Alpha7.deb

Contains some truly sweet new stuff that is not quite there to be called 1.7, so it's alpha for a few days more.

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

Thanks for another great release Konttori! I only have one long-lasting wish, which would be the ability to specifiy which directories are scanned (instead of editing the source code as I have in the past). A simple menu triggered by the menu button would be great, with the "Directories to scan...", "About", and "Exit" options. That way you could even let users know which version they're running and any additional info desired, like who wrote it ;)
We're starting to get quite a collection of media players and so information on the author, homepage, etc. is always nice.

Thanks,
Larry

If you have trouble downloading it, download it first using your pc.

I'll add the scanning stuff there in the near future. Hopefully even for the 1.7.

I had this problem last week TT, I sent Kon a PM and I did as he has suggested by downloading the file to my PC. I then successfully transfered the file to my tablet with the data cable.

Bizarre how it wouldn't download directly to the N800 though, I got the same as you to about 99% and then it would stop & then re-start.

Hey kontorri i dont think it if is possible but my one request is adding search suppport where we can search the title of the song.... like when we input the first letter all songs with that first letter come and then when we start inputting more letters only the corresponding songs are being shown. I havent seen this feature in any of the media players. Just like the live search in windows vista.
Thank you so much for the valuable work.......

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

I'll think about the search feature, but it may be a bit 'incompatible' with the approach of ukmp. let's see

Can i ask why it will be incompatible with the ukmp approach??
And if anything it will give a new feature to ukmp which has never been tried by other media players.

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

Well, mainly because it doesn't have a view for that. Not saying that I couldn't add it, but saying that it would require a search view. Or do you mean that when you write something in the album list view, those albums not matching will disappear and the rest will stay in there? Would that search albums or also the songs inside the albums? I will think about it, so if you have a good recommendation, I'm completely open to hear about it.

I am thinking of a search for song names. But it would be great even we could have the option of selecting which directory i.e search in songs or search in albums. Have you ever used the live search in windows vista??
Well when you start inputting a letter all the files i.e programs, music, photos and for that matter anything with a name which starts with that particular letter come.
Of course we dont need all those here but just the song names. And then when you input the second letter only the songs matching with the two letters in that order are shown and with further input it goes on until we find the respective song or album....

Since we already have the album view it would be great if we can search for that particular song. All three media players have the option of segregating the music according to albums but none has the option of playing a specific song.
Like with more than 7 gigs of songs if i wanted to find a specific song i need to go through all the albums and then scroll thorough all the albums and find that specific album and then enter into it and play that song which may be a little time consuming if the album is somewhere in the middle.

Actually i was reading a review of the n81 today and they reviewer mentioned that it had this feature just like windows live search and he also mentioned that all the future n series phones are going to get that feature. I dont think the tablets are going to get it anyhow irrespective of thier "N" branding

Yes, either:
1. Jumping: Pressing R jumps to the albums starting with R (no removing, bit easier interaction) - providing albums are there alphabetically
2. Filtering: Pressing R removes all the other albums except those starting with R, with a nice transition

(Of course at least I personally need more to find artists, not albums...)

A livesearching view / functionality, pressing R would give search results of albums, artists and songs starting with R would be nice, but it requires rather more design.

Yes, I will try to implement at first the scroll to album behavior. Then perhaps something more.

Re: UKMP 1.6 is out

Looks like 1.7 is now out (for 800/810), see Konttori's post:

http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.com/

I tried to install it on my N800 (running OS2008) but the installation fails, complains about missing libraries (libglade2-0 and libgdbm3).

Anyone else tried it on N800/OS2008?

UPDATE:

Got my problem solved, needed to install Python 2.5. I think there are some problems with the repositories/dependencies as the Python install from application manager did not succeed.
Used apt-get instructions from another thread:

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...=python+os2008

After the Python install the UKMP install worked fine trough application manager.

UKMP 1.7 looks pretty nice and most importantly works on OS2008 (playing "Blood on The Tracks" now).

Can you give us an estimate as to when. You need not answer if you are not supposed to. i have been waiting for a2dp support forever. I have brought bluetooth headsets a long while ago and i am disappointed that it never made it through.

Me too, I would rather use UKMP then Kagu.. but Kagu has bluetooth headphone support (A2DP) so well, I'm forced to use that.
