What a cool & great phone I must say!

after some hours of use, I am thinking of these,

- What would be the best solution to find/install apps like Osuuspankki?
- Do we have a chance to get the weather on homescreen etc?
- Is there currently some way to get foursquare working?
- Is there currently some way to get gtalk working?

Re: Jolla Owners hints and tips and app sites

gtalk works after you add your google account. in the notification screen use the pulley menu to set status.

You apparently can get Google Play to work with these instructions http://jollafin.blogspot.fi/2013/11/...for-jolla.html and then install it from there, or then you can do what I did and use this service http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ to download the apk package of the app into your jolla and install it.

In terminal type:
devel-su (the password was set in the SSH server configuration of DEV mode)

Backup and replace these files:
/etc/hosts
/system/etc/hosts
/opt/alien/system/etc/hosts

First is what Sailfish uses, the latter ones for Android.

Before replacing files it may be wise to add the original hosts file lines to the top of the ad servers blocking host file.

EDIT: Added /opt/alien/system/etc/hosts path. Seemed to help to get rid of the ad banner with Foreca app. Plain /system/etc/hosts helped with the Firefox. Hint for the alien dalvik path from the google apps installation instructions.

And while you're at it, feel like providing the host file that you use?

definitely a separate thread. this will become a much larger topic once people start receiving all their phones in bigger numbers

Flash player works in Jollas alien dalvik. No idea if it would work same way in real Android 4.1.2, but atleast officially Adobe/Google dropped support for it.

Download Flashplayer for Android 4.0:
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...player_ics.apk

Download Firefox for Android from your favorite market. (Downloaded mine from Play and it might work with other browsers aswell, didn't try tho)

Go to site with Flash content.

Edit: Every Android app i've tried worked flawlessly. Whatsapp even found my contacts from somewhere(had it installed on N9 earlier). Only exception is Kik messenger not logging in (not even using it, just wanted to check it out) and accelerometer being delayd on games. Could you guys with problems on Android apps give me some names so i could test them?

I got foursquare working, by finding an older version of it since latest version gives some "google-error"
- foursquare_2011.12.24.apk (check-in works)
- foursquare_2012.06.14.apk (check-in doesnt work due to location problems, otherwise seems to work)

About gtalk, I installed it and got errors when trying to send a message, cant remember what was it. After I installed xabber from android and succeeded chatting, the gtalk via native messages started to work.

This might be a bit obvious, but here goes:
If you have wlan with a security key connected (like WPA2-AES) and have trouble adding another wlan connection with security key. Typically Jolla willa ask you for the key but the connection attempt fails, and after the first attempt Jolla will not ask for a key anymore.

Disconnect existing wlan connection first and then try to connect to the new network. Jolla should now prompt for the key.

It seems that connecting the "The first one" other half only installed the theme. I'm not seeing, or hearing for that matter, the unique ring tones mentioned.

How do I get them installed? Any help would be appreciated.

At least on my device the OH-specific unique ringtones just are there... If you check from settings yo useem to have the standad ringtone but if someone calls you you hear the special tone. Nice :D

My charger cable (phone side) has MicroUSB "trident" markings on the wrong side compared to normal. That should show you which way to connect and ist that a standard?

No biggie for one but if all cables are the same Jolla should contact manufacturer.for proper ones...

I just installed GO Launcher EX from playstore and it works flawlessly. Now I have all my android apps in the launcher and switching between them became a hell alot easier. :D

I've held off on the launchers thus far due to battery concerns. I'm also not sure how you would go back to the regular launcher once you've enabled a different one.

Since there is no "regular" launcher on Alien Dalvik, this shouldn't matter. :)

Sailfish one should be copied as
/etc/hosts

and Android one as
/opt/alien/system/etc/hosts

The files are edited so that they contain the original lines from the original hosts files in respective places.

The original files were copied this year from AdFree app on Android. They are not the newest ones as AdFree got expelled from GooglePlay, and I haven't bothered finding any new ones. The old one still seems to do the trick.

Any contact without social links would work and those with ONLY social links would work, but merged or subsequently edited contacts (the majority of my address book) would not.

Yep, I get exactly the same problem. Anyone find a solution?

Anyone knows where to find a HOWTO to format Micro SDXC 64 GB in promet filesystem for it to be recognized by the Jolla? I think Ext3 (or Ext4?) is supposed to work from what I've heard, but my computer card reader is not SDXC-compliant so I have to use the Jolla for the formatting.

The device has fdisk, so it should be doable. But I'm no expert, I need to follow a guide to avoid bricking my device by formatting the wrong things. :p

I'd like to take advantage of the 64 GB storage before I leave for holidays.

Thanks in advance, sorry if I missed a tutorial.

Not possible at the moment, you have to clear the database. I don't remember when it has been posted, but it's somewhere on TMO, posted less than a week ago from a sailor.

I was given another commandline for doing the same on IRC, from another sailor. Worked flawlessly but of course comes with the usual disclaimer because wiping the wrong thing with a typo in terminal could brick the device.

Found it here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=92063

It's not the command I was given on IRC, but I guess it basically does the same stuff.

Here is a tough one on virtual layer: CSipSimple bringing integrated SIP to ... Android devices. Very customizable.

Permissions demanded by the application:

So far I have noticed it can use the Jolla mobile phone dialer application.

Have fun :D

Ooh that's a big one. I tend to do edits on my contacts on multiple devices and just expect the changes to sync to the rest of my devices. Hope someone has an answer for this.

Little hint about E-mail app:

If you are configuring some E-mail account at Settings > Accounts, E-mail app must stay closed. Once settings are saved, open E-mail app and check mail (update).

I was setting a Gmail IMAP account and had a mistake in my username. E-mail app cover said something like "sync error" or "sync problem", of course.

I found the mistake and fixed it, but E-mail cover kept warning me about the same issue. I had to close it and run again. After that, everything OK.

I have been using GO EX launcher for several weeks now and have not noticed any difference on battery consumption. I always leave the launcher as the last Android side app and then swipe away (not from up so the app keeps running), this way you can be always sure that you receive notifications from any android apps running.

Micro dents

Did anybody notice "micro dents" on the frame? I am using the phone since Tuesday and there are already a couple of them ...

No I don't see that.

Which part of the frame do you mean? The plastic frame surrounding the display, the metal frame or the bottom part where the speaker is located.

I notice the matt will soon wear of the other half and bottom black frame part.
It will become more glossy as to old Nokia tradition.
Also expect all logo's of Jolla to wear off as they are all printed not molded or engraved..

Does anyone know how to use screen sharing with Jolla. I want to display Jolla screen in the Mac. With the N9 we had Netview application, is there any built in vnc in Jolla? If yes how do we activate the server?

Thanks

I have just figured out how to move & organize the app icons - you just hold your finger on the one you want to move and then drag it to the desired position, you can also remove it from the list by tapping on the little gray "x" that appears in the "moving" mode

I like the Jolla better every day. Yesterday I was surprised with the quality of some close-up photos I took. Nice sharpness/depth, far better than I recall of the Nokias. Even a wine bottle, photographed from less than 10 cm and receiving a full flash, came out great. Colours of people are fine as well.

The design of native apps icons is a bit bland though. Switched on my N9 after a week of Jolla, and I was struck by the crispiness of the icons in home screen.

Then: a question. I've seen this icon on some screenshots. Which app is it?

A tip: the File Browser (Jolla Harbour, from Kari) gives you the possibility to install downloaded rpm files. Output of terminal screen gives a nice feedback.

I am having tough time using PuTTY and SSH through USB with my Jolla. I am currently needing this for my Windows 7 machine.

I understand that I should be able to connect via Serial connection type in PuTTY. But my windows doesn't regocnize the phone at all if I select the developer mode.

Any advice and anyone using SSH over USB?
