Unfortunately, I have to kindly decline as I will be away and (hopefully) offline for 3 months during spring/summer 2015, i.e. the upcoming term.
But I'll happily keep on hanging out here and hopefully get back to patching Maemo as well.

Thank you reinob. I feel very flattered that you would consider that I might be a suitable candidate. I'm certainly not offended by the nomination (I'm not sure why anyone would be).

I will give it some thought over the next couple of days before I decide whether to accept the nomination. Like others, it's a question of available time. I wouldn't want to run for council if I am unable to put in the commitment that the position deserves.

...aaand I just thought eeklund might be a good deal too, so I'd like to nominate him too.

Probably not if you're 1 of 2. Since I threw in such a list, that's a different thing probably. But I believe everybody interested in community affairs with a sane mind and willingness to compromise suits better than any thick-headed for extreme standpoints.

Mentalist Traceur will also most likely not be in. Last time I heard, he was very busy and kindly declined last election.
I mentioned him nevertheless because he already proved good instinct during last referendum.

Would be nice but is hard to accomplish, unless we see way more candidates...

For the usual stuff, have a glance at the meeting minutes here, the recent ones perfectly prepared by peterleinchen.
Furthermore, council is supposed to organize all elections incl. referenda.

For the next council period, one of the major topics will be to hold a referendum about council work/duties.
Discussion started here and continues here.
While it's obvious that election rules need adjustment, there seems consensus that the role of council needs to be redefined as well.

IMHO, Council obligations should be put so that it basically handles maemo community life, inside MC eV as well as for community in large.
IMHO, Council shall not have a role "superior" over board in a sense that it could force Board to any business that they don't agree to.
Oh, and please make sure that this time there is really really only 1 (unified) council left in place, in case it doesn't abolish itself. ;)

Nothing is set in stone, a "work group" could be established instead but MC eV is designed to have a council. Changing that would require some serious rework of Bylaws and Association Rules and would leave associated members (basic maemo.org users) behind.

Next thing would be a Coding Competition as advocated by HiFo Board already and suggested here again.
If everything works out as planned, MC eV will inherit HiFo funds of ~3.300,- $.
Should be feasible, crucial point still is the bank account, hopefully this can be resolved soon™. Afaik, MC eV board is after it.

If nothing else, that's about it! :D

As for the other roles;

• Admins take care of the physical/logical infrastructure that Maemo runs on; we have a cluster of virtual servers that handle the TMO, Garage, Wikis, Mailing lists, etc. Also administrating the IRC channels kind of falls in this category.
• Moderators handle the topics on TMO talk areas.
• Board Directors handle the financial/official/paperwork related things that go into running an non-profit institutution, whether it be a foundation like HiFo or registered association like Maemo Community e.V.

If elected, I'll do my best to improve my "willingness to compromise". Like here (work), they want us to be more "resilient". Now I walk with my back against the wall. You never know when your resiliency will be put to test! :)

I just got informed via PM about my nomination. While I find it equally amusing and flattering (thanks, Wikiwide!), I must decline the nomination. Apart from obvious reasons (I'm first to opt for dropping Council all-together from Maemo organizational structure), I simply don't have time, I'm overprojected enough as it is.

Still, good luck for all the candidates! While I was never fan of the "let's nominate other (than ourselves) people, prefferably, before even asking them" tactic, it seems that it resulted in most crowded pool of candidates, since... ever? For better or worse, and I hope for the former :)
