Hi,
I'm going to ask here too. Does Time Round work with Sailfish? I'd like upgrade my Pebble Classic. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
I can't say for sure, but I think the PTR works with Rockpool.

Where's the progress bar??
|
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Should there be one? I only get a cassette logo on the bottom, when I play a song.
edit. I'm using CuteSpot. |

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
All right. Good to know that there's a fix on the way.
BTW, is there any way to donate or somehow thank you guys for your hard and excellent work? |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Tbh all we've done is piece together other people's work and filled in some gaps. If you want to do something, show your friends and colleagues how awesome Rockpool has got in such a short time because of the great support of open source and open protocols by Sailfish and Pebble, and everyone who's contributed and encouraged. This is how it's supposed to work.

Pebble apparently laying off 1/4 of staff:

But now you attract noobs like me, still sitting on 2.9.1 FW using pebble steel and pebbled with the growing question if it is already beneficial to upgrade to time FW and use rockpool? Could someone wrap up a short "ceo summary" of what is working and what not? Maybe edit into the first post? I heard it is not possible to downgrade back to non-time FW, so it would be cool to know before "loosing features" by simply trying out. Any idea of how i could contribute without any qml but some console skills? Is the upgrade/install process already documented "noob friendly" comes to mind? |

I don't think you lose any features right now if you upgrade. There may be some apps that work in pebbled but not Rockpool yet. Needs more testing. Quote:

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Two watchfaces for weather watchers (or just British people ;), both working well with Rockpool.
Hourly Forecast 3 - hourly weather information for the next 6 hours, optionally including temp, precipitation, windspeed / direction, UV, humidity, pressure... (though you're limited in what you can fit on the face at any time). Forecaswatch - [note the missing 't'] Hourly for 12 hours, including temperature, UV, precipitation, but unfortunately no windspeed. Overview (in the form of a calendar with coloured dots) for the following 9 days. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
After a reset to factory setting of my Pebble I like to sync again with my Jolla. Pebbled displays me "Your firmware is too old to support SDKv2 applications".
My Jolla is running 2.0.2.51, Pebbled app v1.6-1, Watch Firmware 2.9.1. The Jolla is connected to my Pebble Steel. I did a factory reset on the watch, with the watch waiting to be bind to a Pebble app. Hope anyone can help. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Pebbled is dead I think (but it lives on in other projects derived from it...)
You should install Rockpool - it supports newer firmware and features, and works extremely well. Probably wise to uninstall Pebbled first. |

Rumours that Pebble are being bought by Fitbit...

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Thats really sad news. So there wont be anything lean out there anymore. Only those oversized 1-day-charge gadgets of the usual OS.
But following the product specs of pebble this is is what I thought myself before too: Quote:

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
I imagine there will be a few more missteps before Android Wear or Tizen get really polished, but then we'll start seeing them more and more on designs from China, who seem less afraid to experiment with things like supersize battery editions.
Of course it's always a lottery whether you can upgrade the software on their phones without a lot of pain - I wouldn't be surprised if they're 'open source in name only', especially at first. Still, if the bootloader's open, maybe someone can hack something onto them. Definitely not where we want to be. |

When there will be a Sailfish Watch?
As far as I can remember watch SFOS were demoed somewere. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
To liven up this sleeping thread, there are some news around Rebble and a limited custom firmware.
Also an interesting bit around the end about a custom store now possible with the Android and iOS apps, which Rebble might want to use (and so should we at some point). |

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Amazfit Bip.
No, I haven't just tripped over and landed nose first on my keyboard, but thanks for asking. It's a new kinda pebble-alike from Xiaomi and it really is called Amazfit Bip. 45 day battery life (ish), always-on screen, notifications, heart rate and sleep monitoring, GPS, water resistant, but doesn't look like watch apps or custom faces are a possibility. Looks like you can get them for £60 ish, but I'm guessing that's ex. VAT. Seems people have it working with 'gadgetbridge', which is an aftermarket application that some Android users have been using for Pebbles, so presumably either Rockpool or a similar project could pick it up if they were so inclined. Anyone know much about these? I haven't looked into it in detail, but it might be a contender when my Pebble finally decides it's had enough... edit: smart alarm is a significant omission for me. People have worked their way around that on the phone side with Mi bands, and I suppose that could work in principle. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Hello,
I bought a Sony Xperia X and burned Official Sailfish OS on it. Phone is working well. Now I installed RockPool and tried to pair my phone with my Pebble (Classic) which was working well with my Jolla phone. I tried to couple the phone with my pebble, which was successfull (without asking or checking a id, simply must confirm at the pebble). But immediatly after I confirmed at the clock the icon disappears from the Sony's screen completly. So I made a factory Reset on my Pebble so it is waiting to load apps now. Now i can search again the pebble on bt configuration on Sony but if I try to connect the screen says nearby "Problem at pairing, ... id is not the same"... I've never must add a id anywhere before on my Sony nor was shown on my Pebble. Does anybody has a successulled paired and working pebble with there Sony? Reboot the Sony does not help. Thank you for your help. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Hello,
I found the solution here to get a proper bt pairing with my Pebble and my Sony Xperia X: https://together.jolla.com/question/...post-id-175787 Now all is fine. Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Hi,
does anyone know, if there someone working on Amazfit Bip support? As the Pebble devices getting older and older, Amazfit Bip seems to be a good successor of our beloved Pebbles: I bought one, and battery life time as well as the screen is really amazing (could have been Pebble 3). It would be great, if it would work with Sailfish OS. Unfortunately, AlienDalvik cannot use Bluetooth, so that the Android Apps (Mi Fit or Gadgetbridge) are not able to communicate with the device (additionally it is doubtful if notifications would work). Any ideas about that? |

Meanwhile, I can't see any real alternatives on the horizon. If the stack for Bip is open, maybe we can do what was done for rockpool when the ubuntu libpebble was ported over. It's really up in the air right now. If I had a Bip, I'd start working on it, naturally. |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
If someone missed this piece of news - Rebble people have a plan:

Rebble on sailfish?
No info anywhere and instructions on boot.rebble.io are not for rockpool, but official pebble app. |

https://openrepos.net/content/piggz/amazfish Please let us know how it works since several Pebble users are considering Amazfit as a follow up device. ;) |
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
No daemon there yet. Amazfit is rather simplistic compared to Pebble, though it does have amazing battery life and a heart rate reader.
|
Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Why is everyone always so eager to have body functions measured all the time. I consider a device that monitors my heart rate rather on the no-go-side.

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club
Seems like the moment I hoped would never come is here. My Pebble time got leaky and moisture inside the device. I'm trying to repair this (removed the front glass, am now drying it and then try to reseal it), but since the battery starts to degrade, it may be time to look for a follow up.
My use case is not super special: I just want a smartwatch to notify me of mails and messages (SMS and from applications), having a (countdown) timer and controlling music playback with it. And of course it should work with my SFOS device. So, how are your experiences with other smartwatches? I took a look at the Amazfit (which from my understanding has the best SFOS support with Amazfish in OpenRepos), but as far as I understood it, there is no playback control feature (at least not with Amazfish / SFOS). Are there other smartwatches which fit my demands? |

I think I have had mine open, you should be able to ebay/taobao/aliexpress a replacement battery, I think it is soldered down to the board but this is not terribly difficult to do, two wires down to pads or holes. If you don't feel skilled a cellphone repair place should be able to do the soldering for you. |
