No More Cloud!
No More Cloud!
No More Cloud!

Same here. Never trust any cloud service.

The first thing after getting any phone is turning off cloud backup. And plug in my sd card. Still prefer everything stored locally

I'm glad I'm not alone.

What about a self hosted service?
Political decision regarding freedom seldomly come for free ;)
I pay 5€ per month for "unlimited" bandwith ssh managed root server located in berlin.

The offer still stands to send me emails at whatever(ät)mosushi.net and i will send a link back to the hosted file ;)

Self hosted is fine. There have been occasions when I uploaded something on my own website and posted a link here. I did not feel it was necessary this time.

Good idea but capturing glass objects on a glass background is a hellish job, and can make the end result look a bit flat, with unwanted reflections all over the place.

I do accept criticism, because you're absolutely right.

My english is not so good so I may understood wrongly this topic... I thought that every topic before must add to this month topic... (joke)

As I said. It was really hard to find Fish here... And Bird, like before... And wanted Reflection to the same picture and do it Snobby... And yes, there is also a bird in this month picture... ;)

About that Fish... It is prize when I was quite fast early Eighties at 100 metres... 11,8s - Then I was quite young and beautiful... Now only and.

I agree. I hope one day the world will come to it's senses and people will want their privacy and data ownership back. And then we'll have our own easy-to-use boxes at home where all the data is. Shared only through p2p.

Contrary to juiceme, I wouldn't like it at right angle and I think it is slanted just enough ;)

Counts:
  • catbus: pichlo
  • spfoo: mosen
  • mosen: spfoo, imaginaryenemy, juiceme, saponga
  • saponga: catbus, briest
  • pichlo: chenliangchen, panjgoori
  • briest: robthebold

The vote distribution is just as diverse as the pictures but clearly most people see fish as food and not a beautiful living creature (joke! :D).

The winner is... mosen!
Please come back to us with your choice for the July 2016 theme.

Yay!
A big thank you to everybody competing and voting this time!
I will make it quick to possibly even seize this sunny weekend for some first shots and announce the theme for July within the next hour.

A special thank you to pichlo for counting the votes.

Next month's theme.
And may I say, what a theme it is! Thanks, mosen!

One interesting project is Syncthing, that I use across my devices. So far, the only problem is memory -- in my workload it uses about 60-80 MB, which makes it problematic to use on my NAS and e-book reader (both having 32MB RAM). Still, work and home desktops, two laptops, N9, Palm Pre2 and Android tablet (Yoga 1) enjoy synchronization without any "cloud" storage (although external discovery and relay servers may be needed to circumvent NATs, one can run own instances).

By the way, how can I persuade upstart to run syncthing daemon for me? For now I just start it manually after reboot, which thankfully happens rarely enough...
