Lanterne 0.5.9 is now making its way up into extras-devel. This version features an option to lock the screen when the camera cover is closed. Also, the UI has been tweaked a bit, particularly the Morse Code panel; I've moved the dot duration control off to the preferences panel, and moved the rest of the UI around a bit, to provide a little more space for entering text.

Please tell me what you think, and as always, watch out for bugs! :)

Alright, I've gone ahead and thrown together a quick implementation of Nokiabot's requested feature -- to automatically turn the torch LED on in dark conditions. (This will be 0.5.10, and is working its way up to extras-devel now.) You can find a new entry in the menu called "Light Sensor", which will open up a new screen (I'll append a screenshot to this post). When this screen is up, the value from the ambient light sensor will be checked once a second (and displayed on the screen), and if it falls below the specified trigger level, the torch will be turned on. (And, when it goes above the level, the torch is turned off.)

I'm still not convinced that this will do what you want it to do, but at least you can test it out. :)

Wow implemented on mainstream lalterne ??:eek: but judging from your post you forgot to include a configurable timer that stops the led in case it is unattended and just a minor problem that my n900 is locked up in transist (elections near ) might take a while to reach:( i guess there are more crazy people out there to test it out .thanx

Actually, Lanterne already has a configurable time-out timer, accessible from the preferences page. (Although, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I tied it into this function yet; I'll fix that in the next release...)

Ok, Lanterne 0.5.11 is now heading up to extras-devel. This is just a minor update, adding the new light sensor to the set of startup options, and tying it into the torch timeout mechanism. (Also, there's a little bit of cleanup of the light sensor's UI.) Still not sure if this is a usable feature, but it is kind of fun to see what the ambient light sensor is detecting... :)

possible use cases --

all kind of wierdos:o:p:D:eek::cool:

it will serve the same purpose as inverters or rechargable lamps do , they turn up automagicaly when power goes out . the n900 with kickstand open and light sensor detecting ambenient light can serve the same feature somewhat well;):D

it would be fun at a party holding the n900 with a pint of beer automatic stroboscopic effect even better if sound monitering would have been there real flashy equlizeric effect:D:D

mounting it in a bycicle mount at night fun showing off specialy when street lights are 80mts apart:rolleyes::D:D

best of all convincing you its fun:cool:

may be it would be better to create a thread other time for a real wierdo showoff app with all kinds 0f crazy things i belive many are there to appreciate and give a bootload of fancy crazy practical ideas.

one more feature that can be optionaly added to lalterne can be quick double tap to turn off backlight and turning troch on and off by toching the centere area of the screen.
