since the latest update i've had a real problem with connecting.. i keep getting an error about a failed authorization... i found out this only happens when i bt tether my NIT.. no clue why it has decided to stop working (btw i have already tried deleting .dailcentral as that usually fixes some other problems)

I've heard of BT tethering issues before. My guess would be either the connection is flakier causing issues when communicating with GV or your carrier is "optimizing" the communication and breaking it.

By latest, I assume you mean 1.0.8, that correct? While running Dialcentral, could you hit Ctrl+l (the letter L). This will copy the debugging log to your clipboard. You can then paste it somewhere to eventually post (most likely as an attachment) here. Most likely the only private information in the log is your callback number, so please be sure to check and replace it with something like "X".

If you feel comfortable with the command line, we can run a program to download all of the webpages so I can confirm if they have been messed with.
Code:

/usr/lib/dialcentral/gv_backend.py USERNAME PASSWORD
This will generate a lot of files. Just gather them, check for private info, and attach them.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

A quick status update for The One Ring. I finally got some time set aside to work on it again after a month or two hiatus. Using a debugging tool (telepathy-inspector), last night I was able to look at a contact list with names, change my callback number, and send a text to someone not on my contact list.

I still need to clean up some of the callback number code, confirm I can initiate a call, and work on receiving texts. After that I will test running it in Empathy, then on an n900, and then on an n810.

Maybe it's just me, but the flashing blue message alert can be confusing. Is it email/chat or voicemail/SMS? Any chance of flashing the green or red led for voicemail/SMS messages?

The other colors also have meaning though. There is an enhancement request to play a sound. I'm not sure if I'll get to it. Feel free to add to the report or file another.

I'm not too sure what would be best to debug this issue. Is this with RTCom, Gizmo, Skype, or what?

It's with Gizmo.

With RTCom the no audio after answering a call bug can be worked around by adjusting the volume.

For those interested in testing Dialcentral for the n900, Daniel Wilms made a blog post about the testing process, with links to relevant wiki pages.

Please remember this is not a popularity contest and you should only give a thumbs up if you feel it meets the testing criteria.

I'm looking for help using Dial Central with Google Voice. I can sign in, but can't call out. Any clues? I'm using N900. I've only had it for 1:58 total, and use GV for all my calls and sms, so I really need this.

It depends, how much documentation is relevant? The first post in the thread does list some helpful things.

What version of Dialcentral? Data plan, wifi, or BT? So you used to be able to sign in but can't anymore, correct? When you could make calls, what type of phone did you forward to, cell, sip, skype, etc? When you could login, did you try to send any texts and did it work? Within Dialcentral, could you hit Ctrl+l (the letter L) which copies the log, and then paste it into a program so you can save it and add it as an attachment to your post?

I have had a bug from Texrat about completing calls but no one has been able to reproduce and he wasn't able to help me debug it.

I guess I just assumed the user would know if they were using the camera or recharging, but the blue color is always triggered externally by one of at least three programs. I guess a unique sound would also differintiate as well..

I have the same issue. I am using Dialcentral 1.0.8-5. I have try both with data plan and wifi, it shows the same thing wheather I am text or calling someone. I was able to make a call to cellphone before, and it forward to my cell. I am not sure how to paste the log. I am still very new to N900.

Not sure if this will clear things up for you or not...
  1. Open Dialcentral
  2. Hit Ctrl at the same time as l (lower case L)
  3. Open "Notes"
  4. Hit Ctrl at the same time as v (lower case V)
  5. Open the menu
  6. "Settings"
  7. Select "Plain Text", "Done", "Yes"
  8. Save
  9. Either load up t.m.o and attach to your post or connect to your computer, grab the file and attach.

I also want to confirm: Dialcentral is only available in extras-testing right now. Are you aware of the risks associated with running software from extras-testing?

Ed I apologize for not being able to follow up on my issue. I had plans to dedicate time to catching up on app testing this past weekend but the N900's USB port getting broke stopped that fun cold. :(

I may or may not be getting a replacement soon. But anyway, I wanted to say a big THANKS for adding the log copy feature. That should be a Maemo best practice!

Looking forward to meeting you in person Wednesday.

Thank you very much for posting this. This will hopefully give me enough information to get login fixed for you. I do find it odd that its having issues loading the cookies file. Do you mind sending me "/home/user/.dialcentral/gv_cookies.txt" so I can try and prevent this in the future?

Oh, I'm sure I can come up with some-- and I just realized I've been an idiot for not thinking of that previously. :o

If nothing else, let's you and I brainstorm on that later this week in person... then create an actual Brainstorm topic (or integrate with an existing one).

I was thinking of just creating it and then on -devel mailing list we would all duke it out till we came to a consensus.

Sure, why not. That can work too. I'm not on -devel so maybe it can be done on the community list? Of course, there will be some asking why it isn't on Brainstorm. ;)

I'm not on -community :). I do see that both dev's and users would have input into such a thing. I guess I'm not familiar enough with brainstorming. I guess this weekend you will get to indoctrinate me on it.

If you are referring to the log, then yes, it is very helpful.

As for cookies, I haven't seen a post with them yet, though they aren't critical to getting a fix just for fixing the root cause.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Don't worry about sending a cookies file, I have a good guess as to what was wrong with it, it was most likely empty. I was able to get perfect reproduction and have a fix in. I even sped up login times for when your cookie file is bad :)

I'll try and get this into extras-testing and Diablo Extras soon.

Before pushing to Extras Testing, would you mind giving it a try to make sure it fixed the issue and to check if you still have the other basic issues?
