the installation has to be made with great care since you can fumble it pretty easily. clean hands, clean installation place, and firm hands.

thats all you need. after 3days the film had been on, those micro-air-bubbles underneath vanished. its little stickier than the n900 original screen but it works smoothly once you get used to it.

10points for this product!

Got mine form zagg as well. It has been on my N900 for 10 month, and now need to be replaced, sides protection all gone back protector start peeling off on sides as well. Only a screen protector still in a good shape.

I wouldn't recommend proporta case for n900. I happen to own one. Yes, it's quite elegant and provide full protection (top, bottom and sides) with aluminum covered by leather on top and bottom. However. the base case doesn't really hold the phone. It's quite loose. So, if you flip the phone, it will fall down.

I also bought the proporta aluminum case for Blackberry bold 9700 and It's quite tight compare to N900's version. The blackberry 9700 doesn't fall if u flip the phone.

I have found this to be a cheap soft carry case for my Otterbox cased N900. The soft material is quite thick as well.

It was very cheap from amazon uk.

I normally don't like these kind of pouch simply because it's troublesome to remove the phone and answering calls on time, plus you need have both hands free. I still prefer the pouch with belt clip for easier phone retrieval. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a nice one, so I'm using a compatible soft cloth pouch temporarily until I get a good screen protector.

Ordering from Amazon will cost ~US30 for shipping, so I guess I'll just have to keep my finger crossed, and take extra care of my N900 and keeping my coins and keys in my right pocket.

It is similar to gelaskins http://www.gelaskins.com/

Personally, I don't think that decoration sticker will provide good protection against bumps

I am using one very similar to this one made of velvet and just cost 2USD. Very plain. No fancy design. It's great to protect the phone from scratches and dust in pockets. Of course it can also store other phones and gadgets.
The case of N900 seems robust enough against scratches so no need for soft or hard "skins".
Isn't 50g too heavy for a soft (cloth) pouch?

I believe that weight should be referring to the item whilst still in it's packaging.

I first had an original leather case made by Nokia, but it was very big and hard to slide into my pocket, so i got one of these hard plastic crystal cases, and its brilliant, it protects the phone when its dropped and it slip into pocket well, and it isn't very thick when installed on the phone... i find it very practical, and it only cost me about €3 on ebay. It is a really good case and fits perfectly, easily removable and it even looks good... i really like it and I recommend this case to anyone looking for a case.

ye it is similar but then its more cheaper... its only a few euros unlike the Otterbox and it does the same job, but this one is clear plastic, and it has little plastic thingies that click onto the phones edges , i hope you can see on the pics...(sorry for the big size of the images...couldnt make them smaller)

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Yeah it's definitely missing a few of the nicer touches the otterbox has.
But then as you say it's very cheap, so it's good value for the money.

Thanks for sharing the pics, wish I had a camera to show you my otterbox.
That link to their website I provided should give you a good idea...

Very nice at this price (esp. the one with screen protector). I just wonder if it would be a bit troublesome to take off the back case every time to retrieve the battery/uSD/sim.

Best N900 Case to Protect the LCD Screen

Not sure if this should go to this thread, the thread has become so long now. :-)

After experiencing LCD screen got fractured, which cost me close to $200 to fix, I don't want to experience that again. So I am looking a way to protect my N900. The only thing I can think of is to get a case for it, so I try to find out which kind of case will protect the N900 better? The problem is I am not sure how the LCD screen get fractured, considering the outer touch screen is perfectly fine. So not sure whether it is because pressure to the screen, or because the phone bump to something. Here are 2 kind of case I found:

PDair Leather Case, which I think should be good to protect the phone from bumping or falling, but not sure how it protect the screen from pressure.

PDair Aluminum Case, which I think should be good to protect the screen from pressure, but not sure how it protect the phone from bumping and falling, since it may still transmit the vibration to the phone.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

if it's anything like the otterbox it's a pain, but once you get the knack, it's not too bad.

The 1st one might be okay, if you're sure you need something covering the screen at all times.
The latter is well documented in this thread as being a poor option, at least from a usability standpoint.

I think you've just been unlucky...
You don't need a case that covers the screen at all times, just get a pouch to supplement the case/skin.

Plenty of examples on this thread, happy reading.

Otterbox is very good one. http://www.otterbox.com/Nokia-N900-C...efault,pd.html

If you want full protection , you can combine otterbox and a pouch similar to http://www.etsy.com/listing/39948319/cell-phone-case-closes-with-a-leather?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_query=icuty&ga_ search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=&includes[0]=tags&includes[1]=title&filter[0]=handmade

The pouch should absorb the bumping/falling impact 1st before reaching otterbox

I have a similar hard plastic crystal case(also from ebay). The protection is good and I also like the fit and feel of it. However, as reported by others, unfortunately, after about 1 month or so of usage, the tiny clip on the upper half has started to loss its gripe.

I see. I agree that the aluminum case will have mechanical issue as part of wear and tear. Also I think the having the cover open to the bottom of keyboard is a poor design choice.

Do you know if the leather case's screen cover hard enough to reduce / spread pressure on it?

Well, pouch will be a separate stuff and I am forgetful enough that I think I will likely forgot the pouch from time to time. Furthermore the pouch will not protect the phone if it slip out from my hand when I am using it. Considering my trend of breaking smart phone's screen, I think I need all the protection I can get. :-) As long as the phone still usable, that is.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

The PDair aluminum case is very strange. Just wonder if they have actually tested using it.
I don't have a good impression of PDAir's products in general. I once bought one book-style side open leather case and one stylus for my old devices. The layers on the leather top cover of the case began to split along the edge after just 6 months of use! The stylus was worthless as the tip broke off when it dropped from my desk, which has never happened to all other stylii I've had. I couldn't repair them even with those strongest instant glue as they fell apart easily.
Speaking of case, I just wish if ExtremeLimit had made one for this phone. They made very robust, well-designed and stylish cases in the past. They are a bit expensive but are definitely worth the money. But the company seems to have been out of business for long. :(
http://www.extreme-limit.co.jp/english/index.html
[Correction: just found they have a new japanese site. The link above seems obsolete.
http://www.extremelimit.jp/ :D ]

Pielfarma is also an excellent choice, but they only have cases for N8 and X6 and not N900.
http://www.pielframa.com/

Another question about the skins. Is it a concern of overheating when the phone is OCed?

If I recall correctly....
There's a user in this thread who modified his otterbox, so that he can clip it onto his belt etc.
I'll do something similar, I don't like putting it in my pockets, because with the case it's quite large.

Good point RE some of the TRUE skins...
They may result in less heat being able to dissipate.
Whether that has a real world impact, I'm not sure.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

I took my N900 to my local Tesco and sized it up with a few phone cases which led me to the camera bag section and discovered that the Technika Black Digital camera case is ideal for my N900. I've found this carry case fits perfect for an "N900 + Otterbox protector". Since I've been using my N900 mainly as a portable computer, I don't use the phone much on my N900 so if you use your N900 as a phone mainly then this probably isn't for you.

It's intended for digital cameras but I use it to store my N900. There's an internal pocket and a pocket on the outside. The outside pocket, I use to store a spare battery for the N900 and a nokia BH-214 bluetooth headset controller. The inside pocket I use to store spare stylus and a spare microsd card.
The inside is orange material and is fully padded. So I'm certain if I dropped this with my N900 inside, I would be quite confident that it is safely cushioned. Not only that, but I think the bag looks quite cool on the outside as well as inside.

Did you buy the Zagg protector from play.com? Please provide some info on it if you bought it.

I am thinking of buying one too. I ve tried the 2 part hard rubber (hybrid) protector but it seems to damage the body (kind of rubbed marks appeared) maybe due to dust getting stuck in between it and the phone itself.

Got it on ebay (simlar to one on http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...660#post418660)

Yes I bought the Zagg full body protector and its brilliant, well worth the money. The screen protection is barley visable and does a great job of protecting the screen, even covering up old scratches. The back part is not noticable but does make the n900 look shiny, in my opinion this does not make the phone look worse.

Applying the protector can be quite tricky as it is a very tight fit, especially the back section. The protector covors most of the phone, other than the side with the headphone socket and locker slider.

I used to avoid using the stylus on the screen because of scratching but now I can use pretty much anything on it without a mark. Highly recommended.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Thanks for the info!

My main concern is how to protect the bezel around the screen..

One idea was to put the zagg protector on the body and use the hybrid cover on top of it, but then still wouldn't get any protection for the bezel.
