"Exchange 2003 support has been implemented, so it's down to when they're releasing it (I've not heard it having been fixed in the PR1.1 RC). I've no idea who's responsible for deciding that - doesn't seem to be the developers though.

maemo 5 update you received yesterday/today is PR1.0.1 update.

What is going on here, guys wake up - this MfE 2003 Bug is critical and you've lost another customer.
This is not a bug. This is missed feature. It is added in PR1.1 release. It was distributed to selected users in this forum and it was confirmed that Exchange 2003 works in that update.

Just in case you remember. What was the "previous version" you have used? 42-11 (which is sales release) or earlier?

I have just asked our tester to flash the device with 42-11 release. And checked MfE settings. It is not possible to synchronize calendar but not to synchronize tasks. They are lumped together.

However, I remember the release when they were decoupled. And as far as I remember it was long time ago before sales release.

Could somebody who has not updated yet check that I am not in mistake and MfE settings in sales release do not allow to sync tasks but not calendar? If they do allow, could you make a screenshot of MfE settings (calendar/tasks-specific) and attach it to the post? As well as the release version (could be found in control panel, "About product"). Thank you in advance.

I then get "Echange Server Is not Responding" on the device

If you want the full log lines I can get them to you but dont want to post them on a public forum
Logs from the device could be beneficial.

Crappety crap that this is not a bug. The specifications clearly say: "Supported protocols: Mail for Exchange, IMAP, POP3, SMTP".

"Mail for Exchange" means mail for Exchange, not mail for Exchange 2007. How you can call that a feature is beyond me.

Unfortunately not sure of previous *working" version. The device is less than 2 weeks old.
I'm part of the Nokia / Nielson market research program and Nokia sent me this device directly 2 weeks ago.
Only just got MfE working 5 days ago (on 6 Jan - Thanks Labra, see previous posts) had certificate issue which required symbolic linking.
Tasks and Calendar definately not coupled on my old version (I'm naughty and store a password list in my tasks which is why I never want it syncronised to the device)

Unfortunately I see no way of undoing this update to get me back to my working starting point so I can give you the info you need.

Was going to post IIS logs, but do you just want device logs?

Hmm.

It looks like we are mixing 2 different areas here. Marketing (your PoV) and engineering (my PoV).

Bug for me means the broken functionality. Not the functionality which was not implemented at all. Which is the case with Exchange 2003.

Bug for you means the broken expectation. You have expected to have Exchange 2003 support on board (or most probably you have expected to have Exchange xxx support on board regardless of the xxx value).

So, as a Nokia employee I am really sorry about the bad experience you are having. But as an engineer I tend to use engineering terminology. Didn't want to attack you, sorry.

i have a retail device with release firmware (42-11) and did not update yet - was planning on doing that later at home.

"Synchronize Calendar and tasks" is the only option available, so yes, you're right vitaly. In the sales release these two are clumped together and cannot be enabled/disabled individually.

Sorry but am I being a bit thick?
I've just been to the Documentation/devtools/maemo5/syslog page and can't find any download location.

I folowed the link to the sysklogd man page and still can't find where to download this from?

I also searched the "Downloads" section for Syslog or SysKlogD and both return Not Found

:(

apt-get install sysklogd

vitaly_repin : Have managed to sort out the MfE issue. Seems that the exchange server was in a bit of an unusual state

We rebooted the server, did a full resync and it's all ok. (Although I now have tasks grrr!)

Thanks for all your help and assistance

[Personal opinion ends]

It appears that I can only open one instance of Modest at a time, but I have two e-mail accounts (Personal + Work). Checking both means switching back to the account selection screen regularly, and it's not apparent from there which, if either, has new messages.

As far as open source goes, the current state of the Maemo servers deters me from trying to figure things out. Maybe after the upgrade :)

I have a N900 that without the ability to synchronize with ME 2003, is not useful to me.
It would be desirable that Nokia is committed to setting a date for this problem and end this discussion

Hi,

so what does qualify one to receive this PR1.1? I am after all working for a half-Nokia subsidiary.. and desperately need 2003 connectivity:-(

Also I do volunteer to consider writing a 3GPP GBA client for Maemo..

Hi Vitaly (privet!),

Is there any ETA on PR1.1 release? I really need Exchange 2003 working.

Cant Nokia release a PR1.0.2 update, just including the Exchange 2003 fix?

Wait for the 18th of January, I am not 100% sure but at this day you should have a good chance to see PR1.1.

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

I'm not sure how many times Vitaly has said (in this thread, most of them) that he as an engineer cannot comment on any expected release dates or plans. It's also stated Nokia policy not to comment on updates before they are released, so all the begging here will probably be fruitless.

Hi - i agree that asking Vitaly will not help get this issue resolved, but I hope that he can ensure that this issue has been escalated and that manay people are waiting for some good news on their incredibly expensive devices....

floffe 2010-01-12 15:07

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

But he has also stated (and others have confirmed) that Exchange 2003 works in the soon-to-be-released PR1.1, and that one is already being pushed out as soon as it is deemed working. They certainly aren't holding it back just to annoy you, there are many other important fixes in 1.1 as well (such as the 3 SIM issue).

Does google work better with PR1.1? Is dummy email folder if you set up calendar-only sync still there?

Unfortunately, yes. We are currently working on this bug to be fixed.

MfE question

I’m trying to figure out of MfE will allow me to accept/decline a meeting notice that has been emailed to me. I’m syncing email and calendar with Exchange 2007. Both sync just fine. I just don’t see an option to address these meeting requests and was unsuccessful in finding anything from a search perspective.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Re: MfE question

Well, searching does yield some results. Looking around the MfE FAQ also provides useful information.

- is there any way in which I can tell how many unread messages in each mailbox on the main screen (without having to go down into the mailboxes which take 30 secs to load)?
- when a preview notification shows up, I click on it and it takes me to the message. Super. But then I can't delete the message! The garbage box is greyed out. I have to go into the mailbox to delete the message. Is there any way to delete from the preview?

I would very much like to know this too. It is ver annoying to have to first read the message, and then press five buttons to actually delete the email. I like the mail-client otherwise (I use Gmail, but after reading this thread, I archived all I could, and am now ver satisfied!)

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

Though I'm happy that Nokia recognized the importance of pushing out this fix in the very first (big) update, I do with we would be getting the ability to accept meeting invitations =\. Atleast we have web access at work as well so once I receive the message I can accept it online, it's just that we use this all the time where I work (as in, for every meeting we have).

But again, atleast we're getting 2003 support, it's been painful to go without it the past couple of weeks.

That's interesting. This is exactly what happens when I sync my N900 (with the new .51 firmware) with my Zimbra backend.

The sync process finishes the e-mail and calendar bits ok, but tasks sync fails with "Exchange error". Of course the GUI doesn't tell which parts synced and which did not, instead the error is thrown in the middle of the "Calendar & tasks" progress bar, but the evidence in my device points to error being in tasks sync.

Originally I thought this is just a problem caused by using a Zimbra server instead of Exchange, but if other people using Exchange are having the same issue, it might be more general.

For comparison, my E71 can sync with my Zimbra backend just fine.

Really bad. Thank you for the feedback. Could you share the logs from device (check FAQ (the link is in the first msg of this thread))? would be really beneficial.
