sweet, i just got the whole days worth of emails all at once, despite the fact that usually they come in as i get them.

if battery life isnt significantly better, i will declare this update an epic fail!

hopefully theyre just greasing the skids for 1.2 within a week or two.

I installed the new firmware update earlier today, they aren't many noticeable changes, though i must say, the web browser (the built in one, firefox is still kinda crappy) is alot more snappier, smooth, and fast, Scrolling also seems to happen more smoothly. Oh an those of you arguing about who got the update first, i really don't think your location matters lol. Because i'm not even in the US. I'm all the way in Trinidad (It's in the Caribbean) and my update was available to download when i had woken up this morning. So just be patient, it will get to every one with time :)

I flashed to the new firmware (as i bricked it using apt :P) and still have the hildon-initscripts as kept back... anyone forced it? :-)

You like minor update once a while?
or no minor update but only a major update after 2 years of waiting like my N95-3?
I definitely prefer some updates and fixes more often

If you will force it you cannot install mp-fremantle-002-pr.
I was have to downgrade hildon-initscripts for install mp-fremantle-002-pr...

don't force it...

I had problem with hildon-initscripts.
do it:
1. open x-terminal
2. sudo gainroot (you need rootsh package installed)
3. dpkg -s dpkg -s hildon-initscripts | grep Vers
it should be "Version: 1.26-1+0m5"
I had : "Version: 1.26-1+dp1"
to fix it you have to downgrade it:
4. apt-get install hildon-initscripts=1.26-1+0m5
5. apt-get upgrade
You should be able to upgrade now....

My Battery seems to charge faster on the Power plug, it was nearly empty and it went to full in a little over an hour, by full i mean the 'green light" showing

Hi,

I would not call the update a fail at all - it has some nice things:

- seems the sgx graphic acc. driver might be improvet
-> much more smooth browser and also multimedia functions
-> Maps also seems quicker in zooming, but might also be placebo effect ...
-> someone checked camera/video? Might have some impact here
as well ..

Sad that there is no official documentation, but nontheless it's nice to get this update! Guess Nokia is now at 4.05 / 5 of what the N900 should be.

Frals is developing an application called fmms - nokia are not implementing this - but they are helping him.

It has been in development for a while and is working (With a few bugs!) - ssearch the forums for fmms!

I'm trying to update maemo5 but it says "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY IN TARGET LOCATION" but i have 1.6gb application memory free. Can anybody help me with this problem?

No you don't :) - rootfs is only 256mb :D - long story explained in many many posts :)

Disable some repositories (of course not the Nokia ones ...).
You will need over 42MB in the root partition.

This has been posted a few times, but buried in those 70 pages.
Nothing major, probalby don't need update if you don't have battery issue.

I think Nokia is not interested in MMS. i agree with Nokia, never used one. I prefere e-mail :D

3 updates in 2 months :)

only had 2 updates on 5800 in 8 months (from launch date)
only got v2 on n95 (rip)

yeah are a few apps that show you which apps are the worst.
Mplayer is pretty bad.

But follow through the wiki page - it can save you from having to uninstall alot.

Norway here. Smooth update over the air.

Sort of hoped my calendar Local (Used by PC Suite) would dissappear. Still can not sync Google Calendar.

you can send mms by email.

I know this works very well on ATT. I use
phonenumber@mms.att.net

I believe there should be an equivalent on Tmo and other carriers. The problem there is how do you receive mms? If you have push email that solves the problem as well... Agreed you need to have data plan.

Confused?!?!, fmms works pretty well, can send an receive with no problems my end, granted there are some known bugs, but its going very well now....

Frals visited nokia and got some help... so things are looking good :)

I already have 1.26-1+0m5 and I think the update is not available in the UK yet.

woohooo not bricked!:D

Moving nokia maps and microb helped clear up lots of space. those catalogs were turned off already

before installing any package check the details. the amount of space it'll eat up is shown under the "installing" tab, more or less.
