Hi @all,

sorry if this is not the most suitable place to write my point.
I installed this app for a simple reason.
When I play videos in youtube (through the a regular browser window) and in the meanwhile I'm chatting, everytime I receive a msg the notification sound stops the youtube sound (maybe 'hijacking' its audio channel?) and I was looking for an alternative.

I don't know if this happens only on my device, but the same happens in cutetube.
Moreover, when I play a video, the screen doesn't allows me to switch to other app, if I don't stop the video itself, because the status bar is not visible. Is that correct, and was that the intended behavior?

Thanks for you attention and keep up the good coding. The app is very very useful and nice though.:D:D

If you want to switch, pause the video and press Ctrl+Delete.

Install "camkeyd" from extras devel, you minimise open stuff by half pressing the camera button, while watching cutetube you can minimise it and it plays in the backround so u can crack on multitasking. Its a must have anyway if you like to switch between stuff quickly, works on full screen pictures, everything really

is there any way to add downloaded videos to the play queue? if i download a whole load of videos (part 1 of 10 etc you know the type) and i clear the download queue and later go into cutetube i can't play them in a queue.

actually i just downloaded a whole lot of videos and quit cutetube, went back in and the download queue was autocleared , so had no way to play them back. this filled me with angst as i get a lot of pleasure from using cutetube but this completely ruins the otherwise polished experience.

Its not been polished yet?? The latest available version we're all using does have alot of issues but its being completly rewritten as we speak so no point in gettin angry about the one we got. Its still the best n900 youtube app so far and is about to get alot better :) Can't wait

Haven't looked over all 77 pages but one feature that seems to be missing is the ability to put playlists on repeat, I have a few playlists of music videos for songs that I like to play in the background, and it's kind of annoying having to go in and start it over every time it gets to the last one. Other than that, excellent work so far and I can't wait for the new version, it looks beautiful! :D

It's the YouTube API that returns the search results. cuteTube only displays them.

eh? i'd be happy with playing a playlist just once? i've looked all over but this is the first mention i've seen about cutetube and playlists. or are you talking about online youtube playlists only?

superb app, but no (permanent) offline playlist is driving me mad. it means it's painful to use if you download part 1 of 10 type video series.

i'm not sure if only me who were getting the error.
When i add the video to download queue. The download will failed frequently.

Is it related to the quality of the video?

Yes. When i just click on the play, the video always play.
But with the download, some time the status will show failed.

Wifi or 3G? Have you tried removing the package completly and installing again? If not try it through x-term.

What's wrong, when you press play and it does not play it? Some videos play fine, but some just blackscreen and the seek-buttons are unavailable for use!

And Marxian, I downloaded this when it was pretty early in development, and I am happy to say, that this program is better than the iOS one. I bought an iPod touch for the heck of it (got it cheap from a friend) and cuteTube blows it's YouTube browser out of the water. Keep up the good work!

got 1 problem with cutetube while downloading any file it starts downloading with around 500-600 KBps then the speed keeps decreasing to around 60KBps. How to solve this?

People the current version has some problems in playing-downloading videos but a better one is on its way, it should be here soon .

The download speed is down to the YouTube server, so it can differ greatly. We're not really meant to be downloading videos at all (sshh, don't tell anyone ;) ).

The new version is not very far away.

I've completed the UI and API/settings/etc code for the new version, and I'm working on the download/playback code atm. Hopefully I can get this thing out within a few days. The UI has undergone a few changes. Here are some screenshots of what the released version will look like:

I do love the app quick question...would (yea probably would be) it be a lot of work to have an option to have cutetube download an mp4 as an mp3? I guess it would convert after download but the option could then be download and convert.

I ask because for music I dont need a video or the associated overhead. I know there was (is) an app pymp for maemo, but I did not have much luck with it, and it just seems logical to have the functionality built directly into cutetube.

Ok, question: what are people using to playback their videos downloaded with cutetube? I downloaded a bunch of mp4 files using cutetube but there is no media player that can properly play it back on the n900. smplayer plays audio and freezes at a single frame, KMplayer video is in slow motion and lags behind the audio, default media players with decoders installed can't open the format either. sib player also lags behind the audio and has slow video.

What is cutetube using to play these videos? I wish I could access that or be able to tell it to open my local downloaded youtube videos in it. I searched a lot but no one is mentioning how they actually play back their downloaded videos.

Go into settings and change download quality to 480x270 and nokia media player should play no problem!

I still think "most recent" is useless. Just my opinion though. I would recommend "top rated".

Looks like I can't tell the difference between 480p and 480x270. Somehow assumed they were the same... I'm a bit disappointed that n900 can't handle 480p playback.

Its not that the n900 can't handle it because it can, it just comes down in a different format that isn't supported? I've played films in 720p before on my n900 no problem so yeh... its a little dissapointing but the 420x270 is good enough quality i reckon

Kind of off topic but going to ask anyway:

Marxian, would it be possible to share how you got the higher resolutions available in your application? When using the api, I can only access low quality streams.
