So it's safe to update it manually? (lets clarify it, for people, that are still wondering).

Well, I did a manual update on my device with no problem On the other hand there was a report that after the upgrade one device become unbootable:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=704

We (me and merlin1991) discussed the possible reason and none was found. Still, I would advise to hold off until a new upgrade is out.

BTW you have a lot of additional software installed (AFAIK) and if you can risk reflash/restore, you might want to upgrade the package in question to see what will happen. I just can't reproduce the issue here.

I'll test it with this services package as soon as it'll be available.
Thank god (again) for backupmenu :)

Same here - will do backup overnight, and upgrade it tomorrow. Not that I expect system bombing out, but I'm curious why You can't reproduce it. Do you have this package installed in version, that we see as candidate (reported by me in original post), or You don't see it as upgradeable at all?

Are we talking about system-services here?
Because in -testing the metapackge correctly depends on the "updated" version.

For the record, maliit keyboard packages are not compatible with the fennec 17.0a1 package from thumb2 repository.
It causes a segfault.

workaround: uninstall (genius !)

A new update which will add missing system-services package and few more thumb-compiled packages will be out maybe Saturday evening.

Please, all of you who are still on 4-thumb16 to upgrade to 5.1-thumb0, as after the new release script for manual update will no longer work.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Hi,

I installed cssu thumb 5.1 and now can't connect to any internet connection. When I click the "internet connection" entry in the status menu, the status menu hides and the select internet connection dialog is not shown.

When I try to open a web page in a browser, there's no dialog and MicroB says address not found.

How can I fix it?

I had a problem a couple days ago that I had only green stripes (I'm using a green wallpaper) and nothing could be accessed. If power key pressed, there were gray stripes instead. But reboot solved the thing. Now reboot doesn't solve the thing with internet connection.

apt-get upgrade installed system-services 0.3.8-68+0cssu0 some time ago.

I'd be thankful for a fast help.

Come on, is this the way a developer reports a problem to another developer. Where are syslog, dmesg, etc.

It seems that some packages/libraries haven't been updated. Given how many people had problems updating from 4.16 to 5.1, I'd recommend a clean reflash.

I'm unfortunately not familiar with these tools. I'm still learning. If I knew how to debug this one, as the only way to show up the dialog manually is dbus-send. And this can't be used for debugging.

While trying to enable icd2 log I found this out: icd2 is not running. If I manually start icd2 as root as daemon (or with upstart) and disable & enable internet via wifi switcher. then it works. But it doesn't persist after reboot.

EDIT: I tried reinstalling icd2 or chmod +x /etc/event.d/icd2 but no success

Any idea how to fix it w/o reflash?

Thanks

does wlancond job start?
is "/usr/sbin/waitdbus system" working right?
you can add some "echo"s to the icd2 (and wlancond or even some other) upstart script to log what is going on since root and emmc should be already mounted.

The line

Code:

start on started hildon-desktop
is somehow commented out. I'll reenable it, and check whether it does the trick.

One thing makes me wonder: what's changed the file?!

Do you mean 4-thumb16 guys should update to 5.1-thumb0 before new update is released? I was thinking of skipping 5.1-thumb0 so that I don't have to run those scripts (thinking that new update will fix and I don't have to run scripts).

Edit: Just updated. Unfortunately final lines in terminal says:
Code:

No changes to hildon menu.
dpkg: failed to write status record about 'tracker-cfg' to '/var/lib/dpkg/status': No space left on device
E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

The CSSU applet does says I am in 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo5.1+thumb0, but just wondering if my update has been successful and complete.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Looks like an nasty crash of apt-get due to 'No space left on device'-error.
There might be an read only MyDocs partition or a mis-configured rootfs got filled to capacity.

Please open a separate thread to diagnose the problem, as it is not related to thumb2 and provide the info of these commands, please, in the new thread of yours.
Code:

df
mount
free

This will quickly show the part of the maemo system, that ran out of space.

IIRC apt-get doesn't use the cache on homefs by default, so maybe that's the cause.

Guys... any suggestions for this?

From the last (manual-with the script) update, i get this.
As you can see, the volts are inconsistent.. and not approximate is my settings....
The sampling rate that i defined is 3000, but the value is restored to it's default value (300000)
When i load the "default" profile, it loads succesfully...

I think it is some compatibility issue between kernel-power-settings package and the kernel-cssu things...
Reinstall of these packages is not solve the problem..

edit: oh, i see the first post..
waiting for the new kernel..

/sorry for my english, still working on it/

It is SmartReflex the reason why you see those voltages. And lower limit for sampling rate is 150000 IIRC.

Not sure if this is the best of threads for the question, but...

Having busybox-power installed, i am running the thumb2-compiled version of busybox-power.
Code:

Nokia-N900:~# apt-cache policy busybox-power
busybox-power:
  Installed: 1.20.2power1-thumb0
  Candidate: 1.20.2power2
  Version table:
    1.20.2power2 0
        500 http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/free Packages
 *** 1.20.2power1-thumb0 0
        500 http://maemo.merlin1991.at fremantle/free Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
    1.20.2power1 0
        500 http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/free Packages
    1.20.1power2 0
        500 http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/free Packages
    1.20.1power1 0

        500 http://repository.maemo.org fremantle-1.3/free Packages
        500 http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/free Packages

Is it safe to upgrade this package as possible with kernel-power, or is this non-thomb version not compatible with thumb2 stuff?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

It is pretty compatible. You just won't have thumb-compiled benefits, such as binaries size.

Not sure I got the question right, but running non-thumb binaries should be safe in general, assuming the binaries itself are harmless :).

I am waiting iDont to send me the source code of latest bb-power, as soon as I have it, I will compile and upload it in -thumb repo.

According to this post, only compiling with GCC 4.7 reduces the file size a lot. Is it planned to upgrade the autobuilder toolchain to 4.7?

According to my experience, this is not the case usually. And TBH autobuilder is way offtopic here. Neither I am the one who is taking care of it ;)

I only compiled about 6 programs (non-thumb), mainly Qt related. Maybe they benefit more from GCC 4.7 than other programs (size wise). Some emulators I compiled where also slightly smaller.

If freemangordon says it is not his experience I will not argue with him, because he compiled a huge amount of software using GCC 4.7. I guess my general judgment was a bit premature for that matter :)

5.1-thumb1 was the first of all the updates i've done (all pr, cssu, cssu-t, last 4/5 thumb) where device failed to automatically reboot. other than that, it seems to be ok

Estel 2012-09-25 20:46

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Alert, Alert. Stuck in reboot loop after update. I suspect, that it's same problem, as reported earlier by other user - updating of system-services package (I haven't tried to update it manually - as fix for lacking dependency was coming, anyway).

It seems, that some people doesn't have problems, but some are stuck in dead loop. I have access to shell console (backupmenu's one), and I would like to help investigating cause. Any ideas, where to start?

I've also tried looking into framebuffer's output, but it looks normal to the point, when framebuffer disappear (and five dots should appear). Hoever, no five dots, and after a while, framebuffer appear again, with shitdown-related messages (nothing interesting about what might went wrong).

It's a pity, that we don't have any possibility to redirect framebuffer output to a log file - it would be both more convenient (file instead of screen-hunting) and useful (would include things obscured from screen).

/Estel

// Edit

As I've tried it on 2 devices - just to be sure, that report is valid (on my main device, I always use fapman for updates, so I always compare results by installing HAM-way, on 2nd device) - I would like to keep one in this state for debugging help, but I would also like to bring at least one (presumably, my main one) to working state.

Any hints? I'm aware of theory, but I never had need for doing it in practice. I'm right, that taking older version of system-services (that worked), unpacking it, and - from recovery shell - manually replacing files, should bring device to runable state? Any caveats?

foobar 2012-09-25 21:17

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

The update from -thumb0 directly to -thumb2 went smoothly here using HAM, incl. reboot.
