Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

you need root privileges to copy to mounted rootfs

for reflashing:
Code:

flasher -F firmware.bin --flash-only=rootfs -f -R

thanks. think have root privileges (but how to make sure?)
no problem to copy at first but mess in /boot map ex. empty after boot and last no space for copy!

ah sure, you already resized partitions, so you cant flash without losing anything now :)

seems you mounted partition as read-only. you need to remount it with read-write options.

ubiboot 3.3 with empty battery

hi guys, i appreciate any help.

i flashed to ubiboot to restore my data after screen broke, now i fixed the screen, but my battery is 0%, when i try to charge through usb, my n9 starts after few seconds with:

Welcome to Ubiboot ver. 0.3.3
(Boot loader is based on Moslo ver. 0.0.13.1)

Try 1 (0)
Partitions exported successfully via USB
Configured 192.168.2.15 on USB
Starting DHCP server, offering 192.168.2.100

Starting Telnet server
Starting SSH server

stays like this for a few more seconds then shuts off !
any idea how i can re-charge it?

thanks.

Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

Did you try to force the charging mode with flasher?
When battery is totally flat the device cannot even start charging as it requires it to start up a little bit to run the charging algorithm.

Start flasher like you would flash the device, and it should say that charge is not enough to fo it, as it is requires to have 11% charge for flashing.
Then the flasher starts to force-charge it, and it will slowly show the charge rising, percent by percent. When it reaches 9% or 10% or so, before it is enough to start flashing, disconnect it and plug to wall charger to charge it to full :)

Strange that.
What OS are you using, Linux or Windows?
Have you flashed it before with the same computer, same cable?
Are you sure the device is totally OFF when you connect the flasher?
(if you press the power button very shortly, the power LED should blink once if it is off)

You need to create the keys to the device like described in the comments in ubiboot.conf as the kays in the device "as default" are just for example.

windows, and i tried an ubuntu vm same result!

after connecting it for about a minute it gives:
usb device not recognized, then disconnects, then appears the message that i'v posted for a few second then it shows the mydocs folder for a few more seconds then it shuts off.

i pressed the power button for more than 10 sec, then tried to press very shortly and i get no blink, so i thought i might be the battery is flat.

this is the 1st time i use this usb cable, it's a samsung U2. could this be a problem, i though it should be compatible with all usb cables.

I think it propably cannot ever go so flat it would not do even single blink, unless the battery is damaged somehow.

One thing you can do, is to start flasher, then connect the device to cable, then press and hold down the power button for real long time, I think it is about 30 seconds or so.
After some time the flasher will recognize the device and start, only then you can release the button. This should work always, no matter what, if you do it correctly.

I have found out that some cables might be OK for charging, but NOK for flashing or communication. Don't really know why but it just is so.

Seems you have no WLAN device that is recognized. What is the device that should be there?
If you do "lspci" can you see your device listed?

This is why I always recommend you use Linux, windows is just generally so bad at anything more complex you try to use it for.
With windows anything is hit-or-miss, and if something does not work the way you expect, you just have no idea where to start looking for the glitch... :(

You are basicly right but I have several problems: can't update anything, drivers, ubuntu installation etc AND re. N9 don't have permission to create maps, to move files etc (and printer set up also), all this I need net to learn how to do and closing Ubuntu and open Windows every time:p:eek:

Hope it makes sense to you because it's troublesome even just to handle this without net/wifi;)

My wifi here is coming through cabel/modem (with TV, phone etc)

It seems that people have had trouble autodetecting the driver for Broadcom 4365 WIFI chipset.
There are solutions, however. Google for "Ubuntu Broadcom 4365 problem" or something.

what the point of installing drivers in Live mode?
use virtualbox or vmware then and install ubuntu there. lt connections will come from windows, but you could mount ext drives in virtual ubuntu.

OK thanks "what the point of installing drivers in Live mode?"
Yeah but my plan was to install Ubuntu fully at my PC /learn it and use it in future also, but now I will try to find out about virtualbox etc! and if it can avoid the Wifi problem by using Windows.
But already now we could have talked in Ubuntu only if I had been able to find the Wifi there:p

Thanks It's already set-up in ubuntu for activation and have tried a couple of times but comes up with an error and message "see in /var/log/jockey.log". Now I will try again but how? I had already found a suggestion here but apt-get etc can't work without Net, so...'around and around'?!
