Thanks, kind of funny our situation. That why I have been posting for newbies
the best directions for getting things done. Milhouse step 7 really makes it
mistake proof. I'll try step 6 and keep you posted I just wish I knew what all these
letters mean. In regards to the 'z' versus 'j' Penguinbait says kde should be
'j' and sup should be 'z'. What do you think?

Correct. That's the same thing I said, the .tgz has to get zxvf.
I leave the two files in a directory on my external card,
and I'm on the third beta version of Penguinbait's second KDE build.
I renumbered his V2 SUPs as SUP20, SUP21, and SUP22,
so the actual last four lines I'm using are:
Code:

cd /
/tar-temp/bin/targnu jxvf /media/mmc1/installs/KDE358v2.tar.bz2
/tar-temp/bin/targnu zxvf /media/mmc1/installs/SUPv22.tgz
shutdown -r now

Pronuke had jxvf in his SUP line.

You have to read this stuff over and over, and look at how the names change,
and figure out what it means on your system,
especially if you're going to mix and match instructions.

We are on the same page. I went into redpill mode to see what was wrong with
tar install. It lists about 20 conflicts. Who the hell created this nightmare. I could
not even have dual boot if I wanted to install tar. Any idas there has to be a
work around. Bunanson was onto something when he
said that as a linux user he finds this setup intolerable.
Can I stall tar through apt-get?
Thanks, Dan

If you read Pronuke's step 6 again, he doesn't ask you to do a regular install.
Just download the tar .deb to your documents directory and use dpkg to set it up.
You have to read all the words, and do exactly what it says.

I feel dumb and I'm not. Can you help to understand where my errors or omissions are.
I downloaded all files to their appropriate directories.
Below is what I'm getting,

/home/user # cd /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/
/home/user/MyDocs/.documents # mkdir /tar-temp/
mkdir: cannot create directory '/tar-temp/': File exists/home/user/MyDocs/.documents # dpkg -x tar*.deb /tar-temp/
/home/user/MyDocs/.documents # cd /
/ # /tar-temp/bin/targnu jxvf /media/mmc2/installs/KDE358v2.tar.bz2
/bin/sh: /tar-temp/bin/targnu: not found
/ #

Re: Koffice ?? Its been a productive month :)

You're still getting bit by mixing and matching directions.
You need Pronuke's Step 8, where he copies the fresh version of tar to a new file as targnu.
Or you can probably use the last command you've got there, but replace targnu with tar.
I like renaming the second version of tar and calling it explicitly, myself.

Dubwise,

I got kde up and running from dual boot.
Problem was corrupt kde file.
It took 5 tries to download the 308mb file.
Looks awesome.
Thanks for all your help and Penguinbait help and work.

Thank you very much.

There are several ways you could have done this.

1) you have PB right-click toggle script and you've mapped it to a button - in which case you should just press the button(s) again and it will toggle between left and right click.

2) You've set your "Mouse Button Actions" for "Left Button" to Desktop Menu. Go to Control Center->Desktop-> Behavior->scroll down to Mouse Button Actions -> Make Left button = No Action -> now you're fixed.

3) You've installed PB new version of KDE3.5.8v2 to your dual boot and not realized that F5 (aka: Home key found just above the back/escape key) is mapped by default to Click-toggle. Solution would be same as #1 - press the button again.
