Re: Maemo (or maemo.org?) mascot proposal
I'm in a bit of a silly mood, having spent my weekend in Stratford watching in amazement as the weather went bonkers.

Now, those segments of the sea critter resemble Maemo's "ae", don't they? And, pb, sure I'm crazy :D it's my way of resisting  |

Yeah the Opabinia is definitely my favorite of SLG's submissions so far. Nice job!

Re: Maemo (or maemo.org?) mascot proposal
I'll be honest, none of the mascots, despite the effort, have said anything to me. Is there a reason, apart from fun (which I thought this thread was) in pursing a real mascot?

They make something more memorable for people who have visual memories. The name "maemo" is not going to stick in everyone's minds, but if you put a memorable cartoon figure next to it that may help them remember maemo. That's why so many companies use product logos, so that people remember the product itself. A lot of memorisation techniques rely on people imagining creatures or objects that represent abstract ideas, because they may find it easier to remember an image of a solid object rather than non-physical facts and figures. And if you look at open source, most of the logos are indeed pretty silly cartoon animals but they don't seem to have harmed the movement's chances of being taken seriously. A lot of Linux-based consumer devices now have a friendly penguin on the box. |

Hmmm, lowercase is better. Also, I am not so sure about the dash now. I think it should be Moomo (for the mascot) and moomo.org for the site (lowercase is more "dynamic").
